Target Recalls Over 200,000 Pillowfort Weighted Blankets Following Deaths of 2 Children
If you have this weighted blanket from Target, stop using it right away!
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Target are recalling about 204,000 Pillowfort Weighted Blankets due to the risk of young children becoming entrapped by unzipping and entering the blanket which poses the risk of death by asphyxiation.
Sadly, Target has received four reports of children becoming entrapped in these weighted blankets, including two fatalities. A 4-year-old girl and a 6-year-old girl reportedly became trapped inside the cover of the weighted blanket and died from asphyxiation in April of 2022. 😢
This recall involves Pillowfort Weighted Blankets sold in Target stores and online at Target.com from December 2018 through September 2022 for around $40. The recalled blankets weigh 6 pounds, measure 60′ long x 40″ wide, and have a removable, waterproof, washable cover.
A complete list of the recalled item numbers can be found on the CPSC website. On the blanket, the item number is printed on the fabric tag attached to the removable cover.
The CPSC and Target are urging consumers to stop using the recalled weighted blankets immediately and contact Target for a refund. This can be done on Target.com or by phone at 800-440-0680 from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. CT.
Target is also contacting all known purchasers directly to arrange returns. Consumers will receive their refund in the form of a $40 Target credit.
That is heartbreaking. Thank you for sharing the recall.
You’re welcome, Misty! ❤️
