Shopping online can be tricky. Have you ever hesitated to hit that “buy” button because you were too unsure of how an item would fit on your own body? Same! It’s hard to know whether clothes will look good on you when you’ve never actually tried them on. Fortunately, Walmart wants to eliminate that guesswork for online shoppers. This year, the company launched a FREE new feature in their Walmart App – a virtual fitting room!

It’s a total game-changer! You can use the Walmart virtual “fitting room” to “try on” over 270,000 items from Walmart’s private brands and other national brands like Hanes! We’ve seen listings for Sofia Jeans by Sofia Vergara, Free Assembly, and Madden NYC. To use the feature, just look for the “Try It On” button which appears on applicable listings.

How does Walmart’s Virtual Fitting Room work?

The Virtual Try-On feature now allows you to view clothing items in two different ways: on a model of your choosing OR on a picture of yourself. How cool is that?! 😲

If you prefer to Be Your Own Model, the app will walk you through how to take a usable picture. This requires you to tie your hair back and wear a bra, shorts, and heels. This picture of you will be scanned using special technology, saved to your profile, and used to view any virtual try-on clothing items. It’s pretty neat!

Naturally, you must be 18 years old or have the permission of a parent to use the Be Your Own Model feature. The photo of you, if not deleted, will be stored for up to four years so make sure you understand the terms and conditions.

Prefer to use a professional model? You can still get a good idea of how the clothing will fit! Just set your model preference. You have a choice between 100+ diverse models. The app makes it easy to filter by height and then find a model that best represents your skin tone, hair texture, and body type.

This Choose Your Own Model feature was first released in March 2022. It got such a great response that Walmart launched the Be Your Own Model experience just a few months later in September. All this new technology is a result of Walmart’s acquisition of Zeekit, a virtual fitting room company. And the move seems to be beneficial! The new features are elevating the Walmart shopping experience and helping customers shop with more confidence. 🙌
