Perfect indoor plants delivered right to your door?! YES!

Skip the hassle of heading to the store by opting to buy plants online at Léon and George, the internet-based plant store I’ve recently discovered! I’m seriously swooning over their plant selection, awesome plant stands, and their secured shipping methods that ensure your plants are delivered in the best condition possible.

Have you heard of Léon and George?

They offer a selection of online plants that fit busy lifestyles and enhance indoor spaces. Each plant is pre-potted, styled, and perfectly ready for their new home. You literally just open the shipping box and your new plant is ready to go!

Léon and George are not paying me to write this post, however, I wanted to share as I’m in love with my new plants and the ceramic pots they come in. Also, I was so impressed with the way they ship their plants – they arrive in cushioned boxes that were easy to open, and all my plants looked so fresh, and were in such great condition.

On a side note, I’ve ordered plants from a couple of other online sites in the past, and let’s just say my experience wasn’t the best. A few plants arrived dead, and opening the shipping boxes was a complete disaster – plants had fallen out of the pots and soil was everywhere.

All of my plants from Léon and George have come in pristine condition, and I love the gorgeous planters they come in. I seriously cannot recommend these plants enough!

Please keep in mind that these plants are pricey, and this really isn’t a typical deal post that you usually see on Hip2Save. I understand that this online plant services may be too high for many and that there are lots of other ways to save on plants. I almost didn’t share this post because of that, but I was just so impressed by the plants I received, and it was neat being able to support a small business online. I sent plants to a few friends for Christmas and they were equally as impressed.

All of the plants are US-based

All of their greenery is grown in the U.S. in native climates, so you can be sure to receive plants that are healthy and thriving. Small, medium and certain large plants are available for nationwide shipping. Orders depart within 3 days and the average shipping time is 2 to 5 days.

If you live in the SF Bay area or the Los Angeles area, they have a white-glove delivery option.

The best part, your plants all include an awesome plant guarantee!

Léon and George stand by their customer satisfaction, so if you’re not completely satisfied with your purchase when your new plant arrives, they will do their best to make it right on a case by case basis.

And if your plant dies within the first 30 days and it’s not due to any negligence of care, they’ll replace it!

What I’m loving about Léon & George:

This service saves you time.

These plants are on the pricey side, but the fact that they come so perfect and healthy (plus are already potted in a gorgeous planter), you won’t find yourself having to replace the plants each season. Buy them once to last a lifetime!

“I’m a lazy plant person.”

I’m not the type of plant mom that’s going to go to The Home Depot or Lowe’s, buy the plants I want, find the perfect planter (which can get super expensive), best soil, re-pot them, etc. That is just not something I want to do with my time, and when you start to add all of that up it gets really pricey! Not to mention you’re spending so much time to build the perfect plant.

They make great gifts!

I love this company and their plants so much that I ordered a few for gifts this year. My recipients all said it was the best gift ever, and such a cool surprise to receive in the mail! Hello, genius gift idea!

I feel that plants are a much better gift than pre-cut flowers since live plants can live on rather than wilt after a week or two. Your friends get to look at them for years to come and are reminded of your gift every single time they look at them!

You don’t need a green thumb.

You can search by how much care the plant needs, if it’s safe for pets, etc. I don’t have a green thumb AT ALL 🤪, and I really appreciate being able to browse through their easy-to-care-for plants that don’t require a ton of light and can handle some neglect.

Here are 4 easy-care plants that I purchased from Léon and George (and love!) –

1. Pilea Peperomioides

plant with circle leaves and orange planter sitting on shelf with family photo

“Also known as the Chinese Money Plant. It’s known for its unique, coin-like foliage, and ease of propagation, thus earning itself the nickname of ‘The Friendship Plant’.”

This plant prefers bright, indirect light and only needs to be watered about once per week or when soil completely dries out.

2. Snake plant

Snake plant $109+

“A large succulent that is extremely adaptable and low maintenance. The perfect gift for the garden-challenged.”

This plant prefers medium to bright, indirect light but can even adapt to lower light levels. It also doesn’t need to be watered often so only show it some love when the soil dries out completely.

3. Zanzibar Gem

blue pot with large green plant

“A nearly indestructible plant. It’s highly adaptable and thrives in a wide range of conditions, great for many home and office environments.”

This plant prefers medium to bright, indirect light however, it can get along with just about any light it’s given. This plant also prefers to dry out in between waterings.

4. Cascading Pothos

plant in blue pot with framed picture in background

“Adapt easily to all environments and will grow quickly with minimal care, a perfect addition to refine any desk or shelf.”

It can live just about anywhere with any light but grows fast with lots of bright, indirect light. You just have to water it about once a week or when you see the leaves drooping.

If you end up ordering a plant, shoot me an email as I’d love to hear what you think and if you end up becoming a huge fan of this company, too!

So glad this works for some! Iā€™m gulping at seeing $7 plants (though in sturdy/nice containers) for over $100 shipped šŸ˜‚ I also have a green thumb, though, so thumbs-up for convenience!

    • Mrs G

YesšŸ˜Æ I just bought a large snake plant in a decent planter at Costco for $15 this past weekend! Itā€™s beautiful and a fraction of the cost!

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

WOW! That’s awesome! I’ll have to check Costco for these next time I’m there. Thanks for the tip!

      • Sandy

I just picked up a 3-pk snake plant at Costco for $19.99. Happy w my purchase

  2. M

Yikes!!! Those are spendy. I go to lowes for my house plants. Everyone once in awhile I find some good ones in the clearance sections.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Yes, they are on the pricey side, but I honestly was so impressed when they arrived. Since I have no green thumb, I personally was a huge fan of this service and love the pots they come in.

So far all of my plants are thriving! šŸ¤ž

  3. Marie

$249 for a house plant? Good grief. Never.

    • J.H.509

My thoughts exactly. We live in an agricultural area in South Texas. These plants grow everywhere and you can buy them at the flea market for $5 or less. ĀÆ\_(惄)_/ĀÆ but what works for some doesn’t work for all. More power to you Colin. Just totally out of our budget. P.S. I can kill a cactus. My husband loves plants and flowers. (ā€¢ā€æā€¢)

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I totally understand where you are coming from and get that this online plant service is likely out of budget for many. I debated on sharing due to the prices not being typical “hip” deals… however, I was just so impressed with the plants and the way they ship them that I decided to share anyways.

I do appreciate the feedback, and totally agree that there are lots of ways to shop plants for less. šŸ™Œ

Thank you for ALL your posts Colin! You and your team are awesome. Itā€™s nice to be able to splurge after you work so hard at saving so much money. I cant go a day without reading your posts. Your dedication has made a huge impact for our household. Keep up the good work.

          • Cassandra (Hip Sidekick)

Your sweet note made our team’s day, Surgibelle! Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a comment. ā™„

  4. Materof6

    Very hip…not sure thereā€™s a ā€œsaveā€ here, though. šŸ˜Š

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Yes, I agree with ya! šŸ˜‰ Although, I’m hoping they’ll release a promo code or sale soon!

  5. Elsie

I would rather support a local gardening center. Those prices are insanely high for common plants.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I totally understand, although I do feel like I supported a small business online. ā¤ļø

    • Julie L.

      Yes! Definitely buy local!

    • a

Yes, support a local gardener šŸ˜Š They often will have plants local to your area and can give you tips on how to grow them and keep them alive!

  6. Stephanie

Omg. I’m shocked at those insane prices. Seriously?? $249 for a snake plant?? šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

  7. Kristina

I support my local garden. I just bought 6 spider plants for $10. Sure, I have to buy some planters for them but that wonā€™t cost me $100s…

  8. acarlson511

Ouch… takes away the hip part of savings when one purchases overpriced items like this! We each have our splurge items though. Can you find comparable plants at a fraction of that cost? Sometimes the fun of savings is in the hunt!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Yes, I totally agree – definitely a big splurge. šŸ˜¬

  9. Lmb

The plants look amazing!! Thanks for sharing! I canā€™t wait for spring and growing some outside. Thanks, Colinā¤ļø

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

You’re welcome! šŸ¤— Plants are the best!

  10. Mandy

Thank you for sharing! Quality products and service can be worth the expenditure in many cases!! For gifts that can last years (like great indoor plants) this could be a wonderful gift to yourself or others. Thanks again for trusting your gut and sharing this small business experience with us!!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Hi Mandy!

I sure appreciate the comment. ā¤ļø Thank you. šŸ¤—

  11. Nicole

Nice but geesh they are expensive.

  12. Lisha

Kudos for going with your gut and sharing with us. I do not have a green thumb, nor do I plan on purchasing from this vendor. Thanks for allowing your creative juices to flow as you look for more ways to keep h2s lively. Blessings to all.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thanks Lisha! I really appreciate the feedback! šŸ™Œ

    • Dealzgurl

I agree. I love the post too. As someone who just remembered my now dead plants on the back porch, I appreciate knowing there’s a way for me to have beautiful plants with little fuss. I read Robb Report. Can’t afford one thing listed but I like knowing what’s available in the world. Thanks for sharing!

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thank you for the feedback! Much appreciated! šŸ™Œ

  13. Gigi

Hi, can I ask where you got the mid-centry modern white console table that the blue potted planter is sitting on? I have been searching for one like that everywhere!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Hi Gigi!

I purchased it from Wayfair during their Cyber sale! šŸ™Œ Their shipping is so fast too, I think I received it in just a few days.

  14. lydia

These plants are beautiful and a great option if you don’t have a green thumb.
I have spent the last few months researching plants/soils/the lighting in my house and finally figured out exactly what would work for me. There’s an agricultural area not too far from where I live and I’ve been able to purchase many of my plants for under $9 each and tons of beautiful planters at Home Goods and Marshall’s.
My fiddle leaf fig was my most expensive purchase at $25 for a 4′ tree.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thanks for the helpful feedback! So awesome that you’re able to purchase quality plants locally and get such great deals on them. And I LOVE fiddle leaf figs – they are so cute! šŸ˜

    • a

That sounds like a great idea!

  15. The_braided_root_5

This is for sure not hip2save material. Chinese money plants are not easy to tend. I have a green thumb and I would compare it to the finicky nature of the fiddle leaf fig. Also, I purchased my Chinese money plant for $15 on amazon. These prices are insanely overpriced. There are other online stores with more reasonable prices .

  16. Amy

I had sticker shock at these prices even with the disclaimer that this is not a typical post for the site. Then I started to think about the cost of sending a nice bouquet of flowers and suddenly these plants didn’t seem quite as bad. I wouldnt purchase them for myself at this price, but I’d consider sending them as gifts to loved ones who live far away.I bought my mother in laws tongue at Aldi for $3!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Hi Amy!

Thanks for taking the time to comment. These prices are super high, but like you said, when you compare it to the cost of sending flowers it definitely doesn’t seem as steep. And I feel like getting a plant like this in the mail is so neat, and unlike flowers they won’t be thrown out after a couple of weeks.

  17. scamp

Thanks for the post! I send flower to friends and family for holidays. I would much rather send a plant in a cool pot for a bit more money. I love this. I appreciate you sharing. Yes, its expensive but I’m with you…. its easy and looks great!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Glad to hear it! I sure appreciate you taking the time to comment! šŸ¤—

  18. Hillary

Thanks for this post! I agree that it is worth it to splurge on some select things that truly bring joy (after years of following Hip2Save and practicing Dave Ramseyā€™s ā€œFinancial Peaceā€ I am gratefully at a place where I can have a few splurges). I still stay under budget and use coupons, but I also try to find the ā€œjust rightā€ things that bring joy and satisfaction every day.
I would love to see a ā€œfavorite thingsā€ post from each member of the Hip team that includes both the frugal deals and the super splurges because I want to keep finding even more favorites too!! šŸ™‚

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Love, love, love the idea about a favorite things post!! šŸ¤— Thank you for sharing!

  19. Jen

I love when you all take chances posting out-of-the-box ideas! These plants are totally gift worthy….checking out the easy-care plants now.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

So happy to hear that you’re enjoying this not typical Hip2Save post. šŸ™Œ And if you end up buying one of the easy-care plants, shoot me an email after yours arrives as I so want to hear if you are as impressed as I was. šŸ˜ƒ

  20. Steph

I wanted to read this post because it is rare to see one from Collin. But afterwards I have to say I was a little upset and disappointed. Please don’t bash me fellow readers and I am not trying to be mean(Collin) but this is why I still follow hip2save but just not as much as before. I guess what I am trying to say is I miss the days where Tuesday was the Target video with Collin showing us deals we could get on a budget. While I understand that blogs change or grow I just feel sometimes this one has changed in a negative way. Sorry, I understand wanting to share about a new found place to buy things but that is what some people spend on groceries for a week or even part of a month. Again not trying to upset anyone.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Hi Steph,

Thanks for the feedback. I definitely enjoyed filming those Target videos and still score Target deals weekly! šŸ™Œ I may have a slight Target addiction. šŸ˜¬ I have taken some time off from filming social videos due to the time it takes to film them, but I sure hope to get back into it again.

I feel like we post so many awesome deals every single day. I personally think the main difference between the posts when I first started blogging to now is just the amount of posts. I have such an awesome team of people who all help to make sure we produce the best deal content daily! So while there are posts like these that maybe you’re not digging, there are still hundreds of other posts every week sharing super hot deals, and much more!

I was nervous to share this post today, but I decided to step out of my comfort zone since I was so incredibly impressed with this company and felt some may benefit from the post.

      Thanks for reading. šŸ¤—

      • Steph

I guess I just don’t feel the site it the same as before and maybe if it is “evolving” to so much more it either needs to be renamed or something because it is not the same site as before. This is what your site says: About Hip2Save
Our team of hard-working, dedicated deal hunters personally source and curate the best deals, freebies, coupons, promo codes, and Black Friday deals for every post on Hip2Save. We research the best prices online and in store, all so you can save money and save time.

While I feel that is still accurate the site has changed and the “feel” of the site is not the same. Sorry just my opinion. I know many will disagree and that is OK!!

    • Ksenija

I second that, Steph. I do think though that couponing in general is becoming way too complicated – the restrictions, and etc. It is harder to get a great deal. Remember the times when we were paid to ‘buy’ razors? Sigh šŸ˜€ Anyways, been following the blog since 2010 and saved tons of money, shared laughs and tears, learned a lot of frugal stuff (besides, I am from Europe, so the whole coupon science was totally new to me). But I do have to admit I miss that more of a personal touch it used to have. Kudos for growing it into a company and I appreciate the hard work, where all I need to do is click and copy the code to get a deal. Serious. Just miss the good old days of Mrs.Hip’s personal touch. Please don’t judge me for a little b@#$%^ing session. Still love ya’ll

  21. jen s.

I agree that the prices are way too high, but I do love the plant stands those are on!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Yes, the plant stands are awesome, and such high quality! šŸ˜

  22. llc

Lowes and home depot have 1 year plant guarantees. Just save all your plant receipts in one drawer. I’ve used a few times. They literally dont care. I thought it would be embarrassing but when u can go get another plant with your plant guarantee refund its great.

    • Eva

This is super helpful to know. Thanks for sharingšŸ˜Š

  23. beth

Thanks for sharing! It’s crazy to me how much these posts bring out the Negative Nellies. When you do a post on cheap kids clothes, people without kids don’t comment and say they wish you wouldn’t post about kids clothes. So why comment on this one just because it doesn’t apply to you?? In my opinion, when we’re saving so much money on things that I have to buy anyway, splurging sometimes is okay!! I just had a Kohl’s receipt where I bought 47 items for $86.69…and “saved” $765.18! So darn it, I’m not going to feel guilty guilty for splurging on a cute Columbia jacket today! Different strokes for different folks. Thank you so much for what you’ve created and what you do every day! ā™„ļø

    • C

This is listed under Deals. The difference between a post for cheap kids clothes and a post for expensive plants is that the kids clothes post is actually a deal. Overpriced plants are not. Now, I can appreciate that people can just ignore this post. I did the first time I read it, but that does not change the fact that it really rubbed me the wrong way. A $250 houseplant is more than a splurge for many people.

      • beth

A $20 sweatshirt is a huge splurge for some, too. Chump change for others. Just because a $200 house plant isn’t in your budget doesn’t mean it isn’t for others. in my opinion, something doesn’t have to be less than the “original price” to be a deal. For someone, this might be a deal because of the convenience and quality. My point is that there’s no reason to comment negative things to Collin just because one post out of hundreds doesn’t apply to someone. ESPECIALLY when she added a ton of qualifiers in the beginning of the post and is in no way pretending that everyone can afford them.

        • a

I think itā€™s open to different opinions.

        • Ksenija

Beth, I think you are taking it too enthusiastically. I don’t think I saw a single rude negative comment. If some readers share their opinion which doesn’t necessary correspond with yours, it does not mean they don’t have a point. To me it’s not just if I can afford it, it’s also the matter of value. Many readers are learning to be more responsible, stick to the budget, or whatever the reason to follow this blog, not always to be able to afford to simply survive. Both critical and optimistic feedback is necessary in order for this blog to continue growing.

    • a

I think itā€™s sticks out because they are not on special or a deal. They are original prices and itā€™s a big splurge.

  24. Mandy

Hi Wendy, I don’t speak for Collin, but I do speak as a small business owner that puts a high value on customer service and the highest quality product. Not everything can or should be purchased from China or the “Big Box” stores or Amazon. Sometimes, people want to support small businesses that are providing higher quality and service to customers who value that more than just getting something for the cheapest price possible. So, to answer your question… 1) She had a wonderful experience with a Small business and it’s a great thing to spread the word for small businesses that can’t afford advertising like Lowes or Amazon. 2) She noted that it’s not in everyone’s budget, but may be in the budget of other people. 3) It’s her website and she can do whatever she wants.
Hope you have a great day!

    • Mary

Beautifully said! Get over it people. Don’t like the post then don’t buy it. It really is that simple! Love the idea of supporting a small business and I AM going to be purchasing one of these plants for my daughter’s room today šŸ™‚ I CAN afford it and I appreciate Collin posting this for those of us who CAN afford it and want to support this small business. Keep up the good work Collin and please continue to do the amazing job you are doing.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thank you all for the feedback and taking the time to comment. ā¤ļø

    • Mary

This $500 plant post actually makes me feel really bad. It actually depresses me that I will never be able to pay these prices for a potted plant delivery service. I donā€™t come here for a glimpse of the lifestyles of the rich and famous. Thatā€™s a different website.

    • Erin

I am also a small business owner and I agree with your points in theory. Supporting small business is great, but the value must be there. There is no substantive difference in the $30 pothos you buy at your local nursery versus those that start at $109 on Leon and George, and I think that’s what most people here are having difficulty with (since the site is ostensibly about saving money). But you have to know what you are paying for. With a nursery, you get a product. Leon and George is a high-end service. Two very different things. With a local nursery, you take into account your time driving around shopping for a plant and pot. Leon and George can reduce the time spent actually shopping, but you’re paying for the elegantly designed site, the curated, user friendly information, their customer guarantee, custom packaging, shipping, as well as the product itself. From a strictly financial perspective, one’s hourly earnings would have to be quite high in order to make the time savings a worthwhile factor, which is why this post seems so out of touch with the demographic of this site. For me, the greater disservice is the emphasis on “small business”; Leon and George may be a small business but it’s a high-end service, and the convenience is what you are paying for. Conflating it with small businesses like the family-owned nursery in your town is what sends customers to big-box retailers and kills small businesses. The prices at your local small-business nurseries and garden centers are typically more comparable to Lowe’s than they are to Leon and George.

  25. Tatiana

Maybe I am the only one but I love to save where I can so I can splurge when I want! I have well over 50 snake plants, devil’s ivy, peace lily plants in my house and although I personally love getting plants around mothers day when they are $5-$10 and purchasing fancy pots on Amazon, I think splurging is such a WONDERFUL feeling and a nice reward for saving so much everywhere else. Thank you Hip2Save for being one of the greatest sites to provide this service. Enjoy those plants!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Awww… you’re welcome! Thanks for the kinds words. šŸ¤—

  26. Lisa

Nothing wrong with posting pricey items, bc the great thing about H2S is that it helps you save where you can so that you can splurge on what you like. H2S helps people at all income levels!

    • IndyMom

      Yes!!! I echo your sentiments.

  27. Alexandra

Some people spend on sneakers, handbags or the lottery… if you can afford an online plant or two, why not?
    I get it, I love plants too-swoon!

  28. Auntie

Outrageous prices! Sorry, but I have a green thumb and can grow almost any plant from a cutting. Every January, Home Depot has many small exotic starter houseplants for $4 – $5, that’s when I buy any plants that I don’t already have. I have some plants that are now 20 years old.

  29. Amanda

The Zanzibar Gem is also called a zz plant. They are indestructible and love neglect. I have had four of them for 6 years. I have them in bathrooms with no natural light. I rotate them through my house so that the bathroom plants do get light sometimes.

    • Dealzgurl

Amanda, thank you for that suggestion. I need plants that love neglect, lol. Seriously, if anyone has other recommendations for hardy plants like that, I’d love to hear them. I was so proud that my porch plants survived the summer but the winter was the death of them. Or I could google “indestructible plants”, ha ha ha! šŸ™‚

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

YES, I love indestructible plants too. lol šŸ˜‰

  30. holls

I like this post because I have started to invest in house plants in my house and I am always looking for new ones. I think my next one will be the zanzibar. Although I will get mine from the local gardening shop I think it’s great that there is a place online that offers nice plants. Although the “big box stores” carry plants for a few bucks a nice planter and soil will cost you extra and lots of people don’t want to deal with that.

  31. Kay

Thanks for the post, Collin. They are really beautiful plants, and itā€™s totally cool that theyā€™re not inexpensive. You made that disclaimer upfront. I love to save, but every now and then, I love to splurge too. For me, thatā€™s photos and travel. I canā€™t wait for my toddler to outgrow her terrible twos so I can have real plants again. Iā€™m no green thumb either but I do appreciate the healthy and beauty from live plants.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I sure appreciate you taking the time to comment Kay! šŸ™Œ

  32. Jennifer

I have sent my mom a bouquet of flowers that cost close to what you paid for one of your plants. When I think about it like that, a plant would have lasted unlike the fancy bouquet I sent. I think hip2save is a platform to share stuff with us and this, like many other deals or ideas, won’t work for everybody….but…for those who never knew this existed are now informed and some of us may benefit from the service. Glad you continue to put yourself out there for us, thanks!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Thank you. ā¤ļø

  33. Christie

I’m so glad you shared. Despite your warning of the cost etc. The lack of green thumb for myself and the endless amounts of dead plants I end up with may be worth the cost, if these were fail proof (I’m not sure). For me, it’s January and a slow month financially so I will have to wait to order.

  34. Michelle

“Buy Local” and I’m pretty much going to roll my eyeballs the rest of the year. I’m all about the “deal” and as much as I want to support local business, I value the “deal” more over local – except where plants are concerned. I’m a big fan of my local nurseries and greenhouses (I spend HUNDREDS in the spring in summer – most from the clearance rack too!) and it just doesn’t make sense to mail-order a plant, unless its an exotic orchid or perennial – IMO. More “real deals” please – the kind where you save LOTS of $$$

  35. Blessed

Collin, thanks for sharing and the disclaimer was enough for me . I hope you continue to share as you would like. ā¤ļø We are all at different stages of life and different income levels.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I sure appreciate the comment. Thank you. ā¤ļø

Yes, this! I have been a follower pretty much since the beginning. Back then we were living paycheck to paycheck and those deals meant everything. Now we have more expendable income (in part thanks to Hip2Save) and can appreciate deals on pricier, quality items – or even a non-sponsored post about a company that goes above and beyond. Iā€™m not a Walmart shopper, so when I see those postings I scroll on by. Others should learn to do the same. šŸ™‚ By the way, I LOVE plants and spent a lot around Motherā€™s Day but most did not survive. Please keep us updated on these!

Thank you for this post. Plants make such a huge difference in a room. These are lovely and I will consider them next time. ā™„ļø

Im a long-time H2S follwer. Sorry, but is this a paid advertiser, paying top dollars for H2S to introduce their plant delivery service website to H2S subscribers/followers/readers? There is NO savings whatsoever. How can H2S seriously recommend this??? H2S should have posted a “DIY Plant Post” comparing the cost of THIS overpriced snake plant and REAL savings by doing it yourself for WAY LESS! This plant post should be removed immediately.

I bet most people who’ve been here since the start feel the same way. I live that Collin is doing so well, but I guess I’m just not used to the idea of a 249$ houseplant.

    • Jeff

Your comment wrongly states this is a paid post. Collin made sure to mention it’s not. I can understand you may not be interested in making this kind of purchase, but I don’t understand you being so critical and even demanding.

  38. Leslie

“But its going to cost you” was a disclaimer. It takes two seconds to scroll by.

  39. Lexi

I love how it clearly says ā€œitā€™s gonna cost youā€ in the title and people still come complain about it being expensive. Not everyone who likes to save is cheap about every. single. thing. People spend money on what they want to spend money on. I donā€™t even care if itā€™s some sort of sponsored gig, this site/app is FREE and saves me tons. Iā€™m always grateful!

  40. CoffeeGal

Love this post and am definitely keeping this site handy for the next time I send a plant to someone. Thanks for sharing!

If you were not paid or not given plants to share your opinion then this is a deal.

Before I begin to say how this is a deal let me explain. It’s getting harder and harder to guess which “deals” on H2S are paid for by sponsors with money or with freebies or if they are mlm. I wish your deals would state whether they are sponsored ads (regardless if you are paid, received for free, or part of a mlm where you earn bigger compensation for people buying thru your links)

This way we can go into the deal posts or opinion piece without questioning authenticity or feel duped when we find out the items were either junk or didnt work for us.

With that said let me explain how this is a deal. Deals don’t have to be money saving only, they can be time saving, sanity saving, or splurges.

Many times a quality item or service will cost money that most are not willing to spend.

But just because the deal doesnt ally to you for any reason above, doesnt mean that a “pricey” deal doesnt apply to others

Hip2save has fans from all walks of life. And the more you save on the dad yo day stuff the easier it is to splurge here and there on things that make you feel good or put a smile on someones face.

The other part that makes this a deal is the fact that she is giving back to the online community. The starter stores, the smaller stores and specialty stores dont have big budget advertising or spend money to sponsor posts on their behalf.

If this post wast sponsored, paid or due to receiving freebies in exchange then there was no harm to anyone

Quite possibly this may have helped more than a handful of people that liked or needed the info.

  42. Gigi

Love the post…..I’m in the market for some houseplants. You posted some Ive never seen before. Thanks.

  43. Jen

Yes, definitely pricey. But how about free plants? That’s my thing. I have sprawling aloe and elephant ear that are very hardy. Little aloe babies are so easy to replant and gift/give away. Only cost is some soil and a terracotta container. For elephant ear, just clip and stick in new soil. Also, pathos is so easy to reproduce. Just clip a piece and place in water until it roots then plant. This can be done with many plants, purple heart and pencil cactus are two varieties.

      Love your advice!

    • Erin

Yup! I’ve gotten free plants, cuttings, etc. on Craigslist and Freecycle and propagated some of my own. There are all sorts of decorative vases and beakers on Amazon to start cuttings stylishly. I like to (attempt to) rehabilitate clearance plants at Lowe’s, too, and I have a collection of planters and pots because I tend to be picky so I buy them when I find ones that speak to me. Target has carried styles similar to those in the post for the past several years.

  44. Amy

I love the disclaimer about the cost šŸ˜‚. Just wanted to say I absolutely love the idea of giving plants as gifts. I’ve always been a big fan of sending something like this rather than flowers that will die in a week or two. I also think it’s cool you’re helping out a small business by sharing your positive experience!

  45. Ann

I like the frugal tips from fellow hip2savers on the comments more than the actual post lol

I should drop this link for my husband before Valentineā€™s Day, haha. I tell him to get me a real plant and not a bouquet of roses (he spent $75 on a bouquet 3 yrs ago, I remember because our budget was tiiiiight! And I was tracking every purchase!) but every year he gets me a bouquet. A couple more bucks and he wouldnā€™t even have to leave the house to go to Loweā€™s to get a plant and I would get what I wanted. Totally not an everyday purchase, but I regularly buy plants as gifts for family members. The best one was a deal on a mini rose bush for my mom for Motherā€™s Day years ago on proflowers. Itā€™s huge and blooms every year. I didnā€™t even know you could order houseplants online. Thanks for posting!

  47. Juliee

It did very clearly state ā€œit will cost ya!ā€ But I completely get the backlash. People come to this site looking for good quality, thrifty deals. Costly online plants are a huge contradiction of what people come here for. Everyone is able to forget that Hip2Save is a business, the site does so well sharing deals in what seems like a friendly, conspiratorial way: like friends chatting over coffee. When a post like this comes up out of nowhere, it is jarring. It doesnā€™t fit the mold and it probably feels like a betrayal to the long time readers. But, Hip2Save *is* a business. So we have to take an ill fitting post like this as a business decision. There was a reason it was posted. This backlash was not unanticipated. In the end, someone determined the benefit (which is really none of our concern) was worth the risk. Iā€™m going to keep checking for deals, enjoying the savings, and appreciating the site. Iā€™ll look the other way on whatever purpose this post is filling. Still love Hip2Save. šŸ˜Š

  48. Kristen

Thanks for sharing Collin! I’ve been following your site for almost a decade – I’m sure if I could calculate how much I’ve saved over the years it would be enough to buy every plant Leon and George sells!!! Appreciate all you do girl!!!

  49. Amber

Oh my word! Those are absolutely beautiful! Iā€™ve been looking for a way to add color and class to my house. Thanks for sharing!!

Long time reader! I’m not a big commenter but I just wanted to say that even though right now this is out of my budget I still enjoyed reading the post. For those who don’t feel like this is a hip deal you’re right it’s not. But who cares? It said in the title it wasn’t a deal so move on. I found it interesting to read about and I enjoy many of the posts that aren’t deal related. It keeps things interesting. Thanks Collin for sharing something that made you happy. I know the feeling of wanting to tell everyone about something that makes you happy and excited. I think we all know that feeling. Congratulations on your success. It came from lots of hard work and determination. Enjoy it.
