This Cast Iron Cookware Scrubber Has Over 1,700 5-Star Reviews & It’s On Sale!
Love cooking with cast iron like me? You NEED this cast iron scrubber in your life.
Some of my very favorite skillets are cast iron because they do such a great job searing food and will last forever if taken care of. I love the irresistible texture they give certain recipes and I 100% recommend cooking with them.
The biggest downside in my opinion, however, is that sometimes cleaning cast iron cookware afterward is kind of a pain! While I am a big fan of cooking at home, cleaning dishes, in general, is one of my least favorite chores. 🤪
Even if you start with a perfectly oiled and seasoned pan, occasionally the stuck-on food is tough to remove, and kind of annoying to deal with. Sometimes I scrub mine out using salt as an abrasive to get rid of minor stuck on pieces, but sometimes I need something a little stronger!
My biggest tip for cleaning cast iron is to use a stainless steel chain scrubber!
I’ve personally owned this stainless steel chain mail cast iron cleaner and scraper via Amazon for a while now, and I’m happy to report back that it does a great job of easily grabbing hard to remove particles from cast iron skillets, griddles, grill pans, and dutch ovens.
The best part is it won’t scrape away your seasoned coating on the pan and the chain itself is easy to rinse clean and dishwasher safe.
To use this scrubber, you’ll need to place it in a dirty cast iron pan and either use your hand to scrub with the chain, or grab the sides of the pan and swirl the chain around, by moving it back and forth. This will loosen tough stuck-on food so that it’s much easier to wipe clean.
I often don’t use soap and water to clean cast iron because you want the seasoned oil finish to stay. That’s why this scraper makes cleaning cast iron so much easier and effective!
Here are the top reasons why I love my cast iron chainmail cleaner:
- This scrubber is ideal for cleaning all your cast iron cookware, such as cast iron pans, skillets, dutch ovens, griddles, waffle irons, etc.
- It’s easy to use, lightweight, and eliminates the need for harsh soaps and chemicals to keep your cast iron clean.
- The scrubber itself is easy to rinse clean after using and is dishwasher safe.
- You can also use it outside to scrub the BBQ grill and grilling tools/utensils.
- You can also use it on glass dishes, and also swirl this around inside jars and cups to clean them when doing dishes
I’m all about using kitchen tools that make my life easier.
I find my stainless chain to be super helpful when it comes to keeping cast iron clean and seasoned. The Amagabeli Cast Iron Cleaner will not rust and is pretty affordable at just $8.99 on Amazon.com. It’s also very highly rated with lots of positive reviews (over 1,700 5-star reviews!).
Curious how I store my chain scrubber?
I simply wash it and hang it over the middle of the sink or over my handy roll-up drying rack, which also happens to be one of my favorite things in the kitchen! Then I store it under the sink for next time. It does have a ring on it for hanging up. You could always use a Command hook under the sink or inside the cabinet to hang it as an idea.
Hip Tip: If some of the finish comes off of your cast iron after washing, apply a little oil after cleaning and drying with a towel or cloth to keep it seasoned. Sometimes I’ll heat it in the oven or stove with some oil as well to keep my cast iron shiny and nonstick.
Do you own some pieces of enamel cast iron cookware?
Consider grabbing durable polycarbonate Lodge cast iron scrapers. They’re actually better to use for this type of cookware, so I would consider these for enamel cast iron as to not damage the finish. Check out what my sidekick Cass had to say –
“This set of scrapers has been a staple in my kitchen for years. They make cleaning cast iron cookware so much easier, especially when you’re dealing with those really stuck-on messes! They’re also great for scraping sticky messes off of other dishes, the counter, and the floor. And since they’re dishwasher safe, I just toss them in with a load of dishes for easy cleanup!” – Cass

I don’t like my chain mail scrubber at all! I prefer the combo of the plastic Lodge-style scraper to remove the initial big mess and green scrub pads for remaining stuck-on bits. The chain mail scrubber gets greasy and it seems like yet another awkward thing I have to spend additional time cleaning rather that a cleaning tool that makes my life easier. There’s also no good place to hang it to dry in my kitchen, and it sags through the diswasher racks.
We can never figure out where to hang it either!
It also will start to strip the cast iron with repeated use so we were re seasoning the cast iron much more than we normally had to.
We put a command strip on the inside of our sink cabinet, and hang it there. Easy peasy
I use the plastic scraper as well. When we’re done cooking with our cast iron we usually throw water in while it’s hot (or heat it up if we’ve waited) and then scrape with the plastic one. I’ve never had to resort to soap & water or the green scraper (yet!).
Thanks for your honest thoughts on this! It made me realize I didn’t share how I dry it using my roll-up drying rack, so I updated the post.
Haha. That roll-up drainer is one of my other least favorite gadgets. I need my *whole* sink. I should pull out both and see if they are magic together because they sure aren’t separately!
I have this and LOVE it! We have an RO spigot that isn’t hooked up so I hang The chain on that. It works so well and I never have to worry if there is soap like I do with my brushes that get soap deep in the bristles. This gets burnt onions from fajita night off the skillet very easily too. Occasionally after cleaning a pan I find the chain has gotten greasy and food bits in it. After putting the pan away I just squirt a little soap onto the chain and move it around in my hands until a lather is worked up. Then just rinse and it is clean and ready to go for next time. Because it is clean when you put it away, and not very wet, I bet a Command hook on the inside of the cabinet under the sink would work to store it also.
Thanks for sharing! I added that tip into the post as I did notice there’s a ring to hang it- so smart!
Yeah, that’s how I’ve been dealing with mine but it never totally feels clean and it drips too much in my cabinet unless I let it dry somewhere else first then hang it under the sink.
I got one of these over 2 years ago from a H2S deal. We love it and use it all the time. It hangs on a hook on the window above the kitchen sink. I love it for cleaning my instant pot, too! Works on cast iron, stainless and glass.
We have this & love it, too. I never mind cleaning the cast iron anymore, because it’s so much easier now! Like others mentioned, easy to clean itself & hang on hook by sink to dry! Bought from a H2S deal a few years ago, thank you!
Thanks so much for adding your review Tiffany. Glad you enjoy yours too 👏
I don’t know about the metal scrubber but where did you get that darling top!!??
Aw thanks so much! It was a tjmaxx find last season. Label says Zac & Rachel brand. Thanks!
We loved ours but it accidentally got thrown away and I just ordered a replacement yesterday. If it got greasy we tossed it in dishwasher or used a drop of soap (it rinsed off well and easily). I hung mine on the back corner of the dish rack..or if it was dry, under the sink (which is how it accidentally got in the trash;) oops. I used it on other things too – stainless pans, basically anything that can handle a rough scrub.
Thanks for sharing Amy!
We love this, it makes it so easy to clean our cast iron & it hangs dry above our sink! I love that it’s dishwasher safe!!
Thanks for adding that Kimberli!
I have owned one of these for a couple years and highly recommend it. I never thought about using it on other items, thanks for the hint.
Thanks Pat for sharing!
I was just going to comment the same as you, Pat! I’m going to have to try mine on heavy-duty glassware (like canning jars) that I can’t reach into. I like mine so much for the cast iron skillet that I got one for my son-in-law for Christmas one year for use on their iron skillets when they/Scouts go camping and cook over the fire.
I L-O-V-E my roll-up dish mat, and that’s where I dry my chain mail scrubber! Thanks for the pix.
I purchased this on a hip to save recommendation and it began falling apart quickly. Those little links aren’t easy to find in the garbage disposable but they cause a lot of ruckus! I’d recommend blocking your sink before using. We use a steel scrubby now and it works just fine.
I can’t imagine life without mine! I have the smallest basket on the side of my sink where I hang it.
