This Dish Soap Spray is My New Favorite Cleaning Product!
Ever been excited about dish soap before?! 😆
Ya, me neither! I mean I’ve been impressed by certain seasonal scents and always seem to switch between different brands, but this new Dawn Powerwash dish spray soap has been on my list of favorite things to talk about lately and I can’t recommend it enough. I’m fairly certain that is the definition of adulting – getting excited about cleaning products!
P.S. Dawn is NOT paying me for this honest product review, and they also didn’t supply me with this dish soap. I bought this myself and was so impressed by this product that I had to share.
But seriously, this Dawn Powerwash spray is my jam! 💃
And I know I’m not alone as lots of us on our team and so many close friends and family member of mine are now on team Powerwash, too! HA! The smell is so fresh and clean, and of course, it cuts grease like a champ.
I find the spray form to be super convenient and logical when quickly washing dishes by hand throughout the day as well.
Turns out Dawn Powerwash dish spray has many other household uses:
My husband found it to be super effective when scrubbing out our stainless grill. Dawn Powerwash is a great stain remover on clothing, too. I have removed chocolate, grease stains, and even sprayed it on my son’s baseball pants. I’ve also used it for quick clean-ups on our upholstered couch, and rugs as well.
Here are the main reasons Dawn Powerwash dish spray has quickly become my new favorite cleaning product:
- It does an impressive job at cutting through grease and getting dishes clean even with just one spray of foam. The spray function is so convenient and actually makes washing dishes go faster.
- Dawn Powerwash smells awesome! It sort of lingers after washing dishes and makes the kitchen smell fresh and clean after cooking.
- There are other helpful uses for this versatile soap spray. As I mentioned earlier, it’s an awesome stain remover for clothing, upholstery, and rugs.
- It’s a refill system. Instead of throwing the entire bottle away, you can simply use refills for the bottom portion.
Where can you buy Dawn Powerwash spray?
I personally buy it at my local Costco in-store as there’s a starter set with 2 additional refills for as low as just $9 if you can get it on sale!
Prefer to shop online? You can pick Dawn Powerwash up at the following online retailers:
Could you hack this idea by adding Dawn liquid soap to a water bottle?
Well… possibly. I actually tried this idea by adding the last tablespoon of Dawn dish soap I had on hand to a water bottle, filled the rest with water, and tested it. The result is that it did work, but not exactly the same.
You could maybe play around with the amount of soap used. I noticed right away though that the fresh scent I love isn’t the same. But this could be a more frugal option to consider in a pinch!
Dishes are not my favorite chore, but this makes it better!
I feel like I can never keep up, but I’ll take anything that can make washing dishes by hand easier, more manageable, and pleasant. Between my favorite dish spray, my beloved Scrub Daddy sponge, and the best ever roll-up dish drying rack, my dish washing game is STRONG! 😂
Let us know in the comments if you’ve tried Dawn Powerwash, and if you’re as obsessed with this stuff as I am!
This Handy Collapsible Colander is My New Fave Kitchen Tool & Under $13 on Amazon!
I find my air fryer gets really greasy and even though I hand wash it with regular blue Dawn, it just doesn’t seem really clean. Definitely buying this as it seems to cut through grease. Thanks for the tip Lina!
Yes, I clean my air fryer with this and works great. Thanks!
My Dawn Powerwash worked great for the first two bottles of liquid. On the third one it just quit working. Any suggestions? I bought it at Costco which is an hour away
Does everyone know they can use a clear spray bottle you can buy at the store and make their own blend with dish soap and water, add a little bleach or vinegar if you want. We have been doing this even before this was invented.
Yes indeed, reuse a spray bottle, add 2 tablespoons of Dawn, one tablespoon of bleach and fill with water. Then you actually save money,
Don’t ever mix bleach and Dawn! It creates a toxic gas that can literally kill you.
I’ve mixed beach snd Dawn for years. It hasn’t killed ne, doesn’t even make me cough.
Thanks for sharing! I did try something similar and mentioned it in this post. Adding vinegar is a great idea!
We have been doing that for years with Seventh Generation free and clear. We don’t want a fragrance on our dishes.
If you read article she said she tried that way too.
It is the best!
Thanks for sharing!
This cleaner and the power mr clean are my absolute favorite cleaners!!! They do such a good job!!
Thanks for sharing!
I love using this soap in conjunction with my silicone scrubber. The scrubber doesn’t hold soap on its own, so it’s great to be able to spray it directly on the dishes. The only downside is the price, but I might try the DIY version when my current bottle runs out.
Oh good idea, thanks for sharing!
We use this for camping! It’s great to spray and set then wipe it out. This way I am not gun king up our camper sink.
Oh thanks for sharing michelle!
Oh, that’s a great idea for our camp stove!
Good idea!
I think I am the only person who does not like this spray! We tried it but it’s too chemically for me. I also feel like I can’t get it completely off Of some surfaces good enough. I used it on my air fryer and after rinsing for what seemed like forever… I could still smell the soap when I cooked things for over a week. Yuck!
I am with you. I do not like the smell. It does linger but not in a good way. The smell is overpowering and gives me a headache. Honestly, I do not notice much of a difference compared to washing with regular Dawn. I really wanted to love it like everyone else.
I don’t like the smell of the regular one either. The Apple scent is a little better IMO.
Yikes Kathryn. I wanted to buy this because my air fryer gets so greasy and I find it hard to get really clean. But the idea of my food smelling like soap turns me off. Maybe I’ll try a DIY version and see if that works.
Oh darn, thanks for sharing your thoughts on it!
You are not alone! I don’t particularly care for it either, I don’t think it does anything differently than using just plain hot water and dish soap does. It gets used up faster and is more expensive too. I also feel like I can’t get it off as well and it leaves a film, as soon as I would heat up a pan, it is all I could smell. I have the apple scent, which can be really over powering when you spray it but it doesn’t smell a lot like chemicals. I’m not a fan.
You are not the only one. I purchased it after it first came out and rarely use it. Only if I have a pan or something where it is baked on. But even then I would rather put dishsoap and hot water in the pan and soak it.
I thought I was alone & going crazy. YES! The smell has permeated my apartment; clothes and all!! It takes forever to rinse off dishes. The price is not user friendly either. This is going into the trash…..outside!!!
Second the airfryer thing! Mine did the same and I figured it was me not rinsing enough or just spraying too much but after reading this now I know it wasn’t just me. Yes, the heat of the air fryer made it more potent and it did lingered for a few days. I even turned the airfryer but it self to dry with no food and still it smelled
I love it! We have the green apple scent and it smells very nice.
Thanks Casey – I haven’t smelled that one yet!
Works great for cleaning my white converse or Sperry shoes. Just spray them and let sit a couple hours, toss them in the washer and they come out so sparkly white!! Love it
Oh I love that! Thanks for sharing!
I hope you all know that Dawn charges more for this product just to add water.. which you can do yourself with any dish soap product and a spray bottle. Just saying don’t waste your money, just do it yourself
I re-purpose old bath and body works foaming pumps for almost everything in my house years. I fill about 1/3 with soap and the rest with water. Works great! I’ve used it with dish soap for easy one-off dishes (or when I don’t want to have to sick my hands in the water). I also refill them with normal hand soap for the bathrooms. Soooo much cheaper than buying new every time. I even reused the foam pumps to make it easy to wash the baby with shampoo and body wash!
Great ideas! I love that idea for baby body wash. That’s so smart! Thanks for sharing <3
Did a home test (sponsored by Dawn) for this a few weeks ago. Gave it a thumbs up for performance and a thumbs down for price, $5 in Walmart. Too many other things I already buy that can do the same thing.
Thanks for sharing Tia!
I got this on sale at Costco a few weeks ago. It is a bit strong smelling but not too bad for me tolerate. I don’t want to waste so I only use it on the worst, most stuck on things that would normally take a lot of scrubbing to clean, like the starchy mess left behind after boiling potatoes.
Thanks for sharing!
Too expensive for convenience. You can make same with Walmart brand (3times strength of Dawn) for significant savings, but rinse after use.
I love this spray bottle and I too have the green apple. It’s quick and easy and saves on using the actual dish soap for quick washes.
Yes exactly! Thanks Kathy!
I LOVE this stuff, but haven’t used it on dishes. I use it for the stubborn air vents, and the kids’ tub. They half clean it after baths, so when I go in for a weekly clean or biweekly (lol) it’s a little ew. This gets it right off. It’s so strong, I may even try it for the oven.
Oh interesting thanks Ziggy!
If you make it your self, like some have mentioned, how often do you replace it? Do you dump it every day?
Just like the store one you use it until it’s gone then make it again
I use it to clean the metal filters in my stove hood. Works great!!
Oh good one!! Thanks for sharing!
Yaaasssssss!! I love this too. I still have my regular blue dawn but this is now always in the kitchen also.
Ya same! Thanks for sharing Sara!
I also used this for greasy air filter and to clean 20 years of grease buildup on cabinets over my stove. No other product ever cleaned the grease buildup so well, I am very happy with the product. I told my family and friends and felt crazy for being so excited about soap. I have done refilled bottles of foaming soaps and nothing works for me like this stuff. I got the 3 pack at sam’s. Thank you for the post. I am going to try it on my daughter’s make up covereded masks!
Haha! I can relate to randomly talking about soap with my friends and fam 🤣 I agree it’s similar but not the same!
Oh and great idea on the masks 👍
I agree. I love it. At first I balked at spending extra for watered-down dish detergent, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. It works well, and I love the convenience. In addition, after I’ve used my sponge to wipe what I’ve sprayed, it holds enough soap to wash two or three more items. I did try filling the bottle with some regular Dawn and water, but I didn’t get the foam the way I can with my foaming hand pump soap. Soooo – I’ll pay a little extra foe the refills. I really enjoy it.
Yes!! So agree thanks for sharing Carolyn!
I love it!! It last awhile as well!! I buy at Sams Club!
I agree a little goes a long way. Thanks Karen!
Aldi had their own version of this like a year or two ago and it was so cheap and I loved it! Such a bummer they don’t carry it anymore
Oh interesting!
Hated this stuff. I actually returned it. Such a strong chemical smell.
On the topic of cleaning air fryer, try cleaning it with disinfecting wipes . They work like a charm for me.
I get everyone wants to save money; insists they can make it on their own, blah, blah but this has quickly become my favorite cleaning product. I love the way it smells, works like nothing else to clean my stove, and pretty much anything else. I’ve tried to use dawn with water in a spray bottle and it never works the same.
Ya I agree. Thanks for sharing Kim!
Anyone tried it on the glass shower?
I use bar keepers friend. Scary it on and scrip with a magic eraser. Works great!! I have not tried this product yet. Just bought some.
Quick Tip, on the diy version – use the platinum Dawn 1/8- 1/4 cup maybe (eyeball it, until it’s how you like) and add a few tablespoons of alcohol. The alcohol seems to make the difference in the foam/consistency & helps cut grease (the powerwash Dawn helps too, worth the extra money). Works AMAZING! You can also buy a continuous spray bottle for only a few bucks more than the Dawn power wash spray. Buy all your supplies & after you’ve used 2 bottles it’s paid for itself. Way cheaper.
Thanks for your tips!
Has anyone tried the Dawn Powerwash to clean their oven? I saw a couple of DIYer’s promoting this. I tried this today…but only after having used the baking soda/water paste method, letting that set/dwell for about 20 hours… and spraying vinegar on the dried-on paste to help with removal. That method didn’t work so well. So I tried the Powerwash… but used it sparingly since I knew it was rather soapy. It did seem to work for me, but I still had ample soapy residue and had to continually rinse my Costco yellow fiber cloth multiple times. I also had to use a razor scraper VERY GENTLY to loosen the black baked-on debris. Overall, I’m impressed with Dawn Powerwash and next time I need to clean the oven, I’ll use JUST the Powerwash, less than what I used today and spread it around, let it dwell for about an hour, and wipe it up… using vinegar to help break up the soap. And… not wait as long to clean the oven. 😏😄 (I found the combo pack, 1 sprayer bottle filled with product and 2 refill bottles, to be the best bargain for me at Costco.)
Thanks for sharing! I’d like to try the oven too!
Please give a report on how it went for you, Lina! I can’t stress enough how little to use… even if you have to apply it a couple of times. The time I spent rinsing out my cloth was very time consuming. Definitely will be a great product to use immediately on a fresh baking mishap. Powerwash is very concentrated IMO — meant to be able to rinse off in the sink… can’t do that with an oven!
Sprayway SW826 Oven and Grill Cleaner, 18 oz best oven cleaner EVER!
I have a front loader washing machine. Can’t seem to get rid of the funky smell inside! Anybody tried Powerwash in the washing machine?
Please do not use dawn power wash on your clothes it will remove the colour. I say this from experience because my fresh hoodie was ruined due to using this method and now it is not available to buy a new one.
To clean baseball pants, do you spray and let it rest for a while before washing or should you scrub immediately? Thank!
Ya that could be helpful. Depending how much time I have. I usually just spray and scrub honestly.
Nope, I’ll stick with regular soap. Tried this and not impressed. I had some leftover containers that still smelled. Didn’t have that with regular dish soap. It also had a “very difficult” trigger. It was so hard to squeeze that I had to use two hands and when it got to a low level, I had to add water to get it to spray. Just not worth it.
Dawn PowerWash left a bleach-like stain on my carpet. I called the company. Of course, there is nothing they can do. My like-new carpet is now ruined.
Curious… Anybody use this spray on eyeglass? Gets mine really clean but worried it might damage the lens.
Has anyone had issues with the DIY version spraying a little and leaking a lot? I have tried several original Powerspray bottles. MAybe the consistency is not correct for an adequate spray. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong.
I have been using it to clean the pet accidents that happen. Treat the stain with a little hydrogen peroxide and then spay the power wash and scrub. No more stain
Great idea! Thanks Jason!
If you add alcohol instead of vinegar or bleach to the homemade version it’s more like the actual dawn power wash spray. The recipe is online. Just google it. I’ve found that if you spray it in your tub and shower then allow to sit a few minutes then lightly scrub it gets the soap scum off better than my fav method of spraying with scrubbing bubbles then scrubbing with a magic eraser. This stuff has truly impressed me! I can’t wait to try the homemade version as well. Guess I don’t need anymore scrubbing bubbles.
I’m really trying to be more environmentally friendly. If you look up Dawn Powerwash on EWG (Environmental Working Group, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to helping you live your healthiest life), unfortunately, you will see this scores a D. I always wonder… if something works really really well it may be really really bad for you and I would wear an n95 mask and gloves if I really wanted to use it. Especially for those with immune compromised systems.
