In My Book About Me, kids will essentially write their own biography by answering some funny and whimsical questions about themselves and their interests from Dr. Seuss.
The result turns out to be a priceless keepsake that is funny and so adorable to look back on years later, I promise!
Have a preschool or kindergarten in your life? My Book About Me makes the best gift.
I am so surprised at how many people haven’t heard of this Dr. Seuss book as it was one of my favorites, and I highly recommend it for any kindergarten-aged kids to start filling one out. What a unique and thoughtful gift this would be for a tiny graduate!
It’s a creative writing activity and will become a priceless memory piece. I also like its sturdy hardcover that will hold up over time. It’s like peeking back in time at a special age since this book’s target age is 4-8.
In fact, I love to give this classic Dr. Seuss book as a baby shower gift or birthday gift for kids because it’s usually something most people won’t receive duplicates of.
Each page in My Book About Me has unique questions to answer such as:
“My favorite food is ____.”
“My teeth I counted them. I have ____ up top, and ____ downstairs.”
“My home has ____ steps. There are ____ forks in my house.”
“My longest hair is ____ inches.”
It definitely has some educational value and is a great way to capture a snapshot of your child’s world to look back on later.
I still have My Book About Me, which I filled out in 1985!
This book is over 50 years old and is still relevant today! My kids found it hilarious to read my answers as all the toys I mentioned are from the 80s, like Charmkins, Cabbage Patch Kids, and Alf. My mom must not have bought my younger brother his own copy because on some of my pages, my answers are crossed out, and he wrote in his own! LOL! 😂
My kids are much older now, but they were excited to fill out their own books around age 5 or 6. I’m so glad we can look back and enjoy their cute answers every so often. My son, pictured above, still likes the same three foods as his favorite 11 years later!
Did you fill out your own My Book About Me as a child, too? Let us know in the comments!
Does anyone have this book? Would it be a good one for an adopted child – like are the questions about them now, or about them as babies, or both? Anything about the parents or siblings?
I have this book from when I was a kid and bought one for my daughter too! It’d be great for an adopted child because it’s all about who they are now.. how many teeth, what hair cut, what color eyes, favorite things, what they want to be when they grow up, etc.
Yes I think so! – the questions are about them and their home and interests now.
I have this one from when I was a child and my kids love when I read it to them. I’ve been wanting to get one for each of them. Thanks for posting!
Oh yay! Thanks for sharing!
At what age should this book be started at? It’s probably for younger kids, but I never started one for my daughter who’s a teen.
Ages 4-8 is what the book recommends. That’d be fun if someone wrote a teen or adult version!
I would suggest the “question a day” books for older kids. I found one on amazon that asks a question for the child to answer about themself every day for a year, and then has three spaces so they can redo it for three years and see their answers change! Really cool for preteens/teens
I have mine from over 40 years ago!
That’s so awesome 👏!
My brother and I each had one! We loved how our pictures were on them!
Yes!!! I love that part too!
I had this book about 40 years ago and got a copy for my now 20 year old son when he was kindergarten age. It was fun for me and he had fun too. I still remember waiting by the mailbox with my son for our mailman so we could get a signature of a mailman. And counting how many steps we have, etc… I am going to snag a couple for gifts for my neices.
Yay Sally! I have those same memories too!! And counting our forks LOL
Loved this book as a kid.
Same! Thanks for sharing Patty!
My sister had one, and I remember her with our Mom filling it out and as the tag along lil sis I was most definitely in the mix Loved it 😁 So, I am happy You shared this out for many others to enjoy!!
LOL so cute! Thanks for sharing Mandy! Yes, this is a hidden jem new generations need to know about! Ha
I got one for Christmas when I was about 6 and absolutely loved it (and still have it!). This is now my standard gift for all the 6 year olds in my life, and I’m excited to give it to my oldest on her 6th birthday in a few weeks.
That’s so awesome that you still have yours, Melie! Such a great idea to give these as gifts too! I hope your oldest enjoys it! Happy early Birthday to her! ❤️ 🥳
