I had the misfortune of purchasing $96 worth of plum Opal House towels 6 weeks ago from my local Target. I only wish I had kept the receipt. I should have known after the first wash how inferior the quality of these towels were. At first wash, our dryer stopped because the lint trap was completely full of lint and would have burnt the dryer up. There is lint on our bodies when we use the hand towels and bath towels. There is lint on the floor of the shower when we wrap ourselves after taking a shower. The entire bathroom is covered in a layer of plum-colored fine lint. These are the worst towels I have ever bought. I know $96 isn’t a large amount to many, but we saved up to get these towels because our older ones were threadbare. RECONSIDER if you see these towels on sale at Target and are tempted to purchase them. I give these towels a -10 on the review scale.
Hi Melanie, sorry to hear about your experience with the Opal House towels. While these do have a nice rating on the Target website we do realize they are not for everyone. You may want to contact Target’s customer service at 1 (800) 440-0680 to see if they can assist you with making the situation better. Thank you!
I purchased 2 Opalhouse bath sheets. I love the softness and I am used to new towels having more lint in the initial drying phases. That doesn’t bother me as the lint-catcher is emptied after each load…but I was disappointed that on the 2nd washing of each, the seam opened where the tag was sewn. I can live without the tags but I will need to sew the opened seam to prevent these from further damage. I usually choose Threshold towels and never had this problem of the seams coming undone after 2 washes. Other than this issue, I do love the soft thickness of this towel.
My wife purchased several of these “100%” bath towels. The reason for quotes only begins to express how unfortunate these towels have turned out to be. All of the descriptions used for these towels: absorbent, don’t shed, durable, etc., are all quite the opposite. I’ve never seen a towel leave behind so much lint, EVERYWHERE, and if you want a towel to remove water from your body (as I did for some reason), I’d suggest looking elsewhere. They smear water enough to allow it to dry as your body begins to shiver. Bottom line: you get what you pay for.
I am looking to buy more plain white opal house bath towels, hand towels and washcloths… seems Target has stopped carrying them. Who makes the towel?
Unfortunately, Target has stopped making these towels. They used to to be produced under the Threshold brand years ago (I purchased mine about 8 years ago when we bought our house). When I went to purchase more about a year ago, they started selling them under the Opalhouse brand. They no longer sell them from what I can tell in my half hour search today, which sucks because I really like these towels!
