You cab also cook up a pound of ground beef and half a jar or so of yummy pasta sauce (one with veggies and lots of flavor). Super easy and great as sloppy joes, with rice, or pasta.

Great idea – thanks Nydia! 😀

I use similar recipe but I lay layer of bread slices (I use French or Italian) on oven safe dish, put meat all over it and put under the broiler for few minutes, LOVE IT 🙂 I also make it with diced chicken.

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

Yum! My family would love that too. 😀

  9. LeAnne

About once a month or so I cook up about 10 pound of ground beef or turkey and then run it through a food processor for easy crumbling, then freeze them in equal amounts. Easy to throw in a skillet for tacos, sloppy joes, hamburger gravy, spaghetti sauce, or chili. Totally is worth the effort in the long run when you need a quick meal!

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

Ya that’s a great tip! Thanks LeAnne 😀

      • rob

        Yes I do this too!!!

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

I just saw this yesterday! So funny!

  10. Cynthia

I always double it and throw in a couple of handfuls of matchstick carrots. Sneak those veggies in. Plus, it give it a slight crunch and a touch of sweetness.

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

      Oh great idea!

  11. Jen

Perfect, that will be tonight’s dinner 🙂

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Nice- enjoy 😉 and thanks for stopping by!

  12. laurahartsel

I use the same recipe (from my mom!) but I sneak in diced zucchini and/or carrots! My kids never know, but they’re getting some extra veggies.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Great idea! Thanks for sharing!

  13. Cherryluva

For all of you that sneak in veggies in this meal, how do you do it?

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

I would just chop them finely and sauté until soft, and add with the meat 👍

    • Ms. Frizzle

Ninja Chop ’em. My kids hate onions, tomatoes and peppers. So I puree them and they never know!

  14. Pat

The best sloppy joes are made with a can of tomato soup, plus worcestershire, brown sugar, ketchup, onion mustard. I’ve been making it for 40 years, there’s nothing better.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh nice I’m trying that! ❤️👍

  15. Sue

This is a really good recipe except I don’t use Worcestershire Sauce and Brown Sugar. So I just want to say thank you for the recipe. I used Manwich years ago but quit because of the ingredients so I was very happy to see a homemade recipe. My husband and I love sloppy joes.

  16. Eden

I made this and it had really good flavor, but you definitely don’t need to add the water. It made the sauce really runny and trying to cook it down only overcooked the ground beef. I would just add an extra 1/4 cup of ketchup and omit the water.

  17. nita

I use Indian spices n we love that too 💕

  18. nita

N I throw in sliced zucchini.. wch practically melts, so the veggie slides in.

  19. JMMPA

I cheat and use the sloppy joe sauce i get at weis.. i use ground turkey and onions and throw in the sloppy joe sauce after the onions are clear and the meat is thoroughly cooked.. My dad loves sloppy joes over hawaiian rolls.

Going to try this for my 46 year old “kid” this week. LOL Thank you!
