1
Spray a mug or ramekin with non-stick cooking spray. Mix together 3 tablespoons of cake mix mixture* with 2 tablespoons of water and pour mixture in the mug/ramekin.

2
Microwave for 1 minute.
3
Top with fruit, whipped cream, sprinkles, or whatever topping you desire. Enjoy!
Tips for making the best 321 mug cake for one:
- Consider pouring both cake mixes into a gallon storage bag or storage container, mix thoroughly, and store to have on hand for future mug cakes.
- The cake mixture should last up to 3 months stored in the pantry, or longer in the fridge, according to bakinghow.com.
- When it comes to how to make cake in the microwave, you want to be sure to use a large enough microwave-safe mug or baking ramekin like mine so that your cake won’t bubble over as it expands. The size I am using is 8 oz. and seems to be perfect.
- I suggest spraying the mug or ramekin with a nonstick baking spray first for easy cleanup.
I LOVE being able to do this at work! Great treat to have and to share with your friends.
Awesome! My 10 year old has a teacher that uses this in class as an inventive for good behavior/special occasion treat π it works lol

Love these for a little treat and so do my girls! My 11 year old daughter calls them kaola babies….if a kaola and a cloud had a baby this is what you would end up with. π
Awe how cute koala babiesπ lol, thanks collin awesome ideaπ
Ha that is so cute!
I am in love with this! So simple and now I can make individual cups for the family instead of us eating an entire pan of brownies….which we have done haha!
Should u spray the mug with cooking spray or does it matter?
That’s a great idea!
We add marshmallow fluff on top π
Awesome will try out!! Thanks for sharing
How would you do it for brownie mix?
I would like to know too
Me too I also wonder if u have to have the Angel food cake and regular cake I just have the regular cake on hand and wanted to try it out…
We do it all the time with just regular cake mix and water. Same measurements. We mix in a teaspoon of frosting after it’s cooked. YUMMMMM!
We’ve done it with lots of different cake mixes and loved all of them. Have fun!!
Ok thanks!!!
Oh wow – thanks for sharing!
I have a few boxes of brownie mix that I got on sale and never finished using up because I’m rarely in the mood to make a whole pan of brownies. I thought I’d give this a whirl, but didn’t really expect much. 3T brownie mix, 2T water and 1 minute in the microwave later, it actually worked! I had a tasty little brownie treat! (Followed by another one after that! They’re good!). Thanks! Now I will actually use up my old brownie mixes and have a tasty little chocolate fix whenever I need!
What ounce/size ramekins work well for this recipe? I don’t want to have overflow issues. π
I have 7ounce sized but you can use a small bowl or mug as well.
So good for when you want something sweet but don’t need to make something big. Thanks Lina!
Agree! Thanks Jennifer π
I saw this on a show a few weeks ago, I believe it was right this minute, they put some ice cream in a mug and added some flour, put in microwave and out came a chocolate cake lol
Love making this with carrot cake,so yummy
How long is the mix good for after opening?
3 months in the pantry.
Today my sweet little 17 month old asked me for cake…she’s got many allergies including egg and dairy so we stay away from cakes…she has never had cake or pancake or any of that sort of baked food unfortunately. Anyhow, today I found a recipe that calls for cake mix and a can of soda. We had Betty crocker cake mix which is dairy free, and combined with one can of Sierra mist. Cooked into cupcakes and baked for 15 minutes. She loved it ! Egg dairy nut corn etc free!
Oh I’ve heard of that! Very cool π
You could make the “depression cake” also. It’s flour, cocoa ( they other than chocolate versions) , oil, water, little vinegar , vanilla extract and water. The batter is so good!
Think it was posted here if not google it. There’s another name for it but I don’t remember. Crazy cake ?
Check the Betty Crocker sugar cookie mix too! I was out of eggs once and had put in the oil and water already when I discovered I had no eggs. So I was like whatever, I’m just going to bake them anyway. And they were awesome!! With no eggs at all :). Not sure if it’s dairy free too. But worth a look!
Saw this some time back. We made some with strawberry and would put fresh berries on it. Also lemon and even spice cake. We just used regular cake mix with the angle food , like the ones we all got in great deal at Target over the past few weeks.
Can also use cake mix 1 tub cool whip and 1 egg. Mix together drop by spoonful on cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees till light brown. Makes the best soft cookies.
Chocolate cake with Nestles Quik added to mix. Excellent!!!
I just tried the cake in the mug and I think itβs a brilliants!π₯°
Oh that’s so awesome Sharon!
Thanks for this recipe. Will be using it for Christmas gifts. I found and then lost the recipe so you saved me. Merry Christmas.
You’re welcome, Shari! Great idea for Christmas gifts! Merry Christmas to you too! ππ₯°
A cheaper version is to buy powdered eggs and use that instead of the Angel Food cake mix. Bob’s Red Mill Egg Replacer is about $5-6 and is the equivalent of 34 eggs (1T = 1egg).
1 box cake mix + 2 (or 3) Tablespoons of powdered eggs for your mix. I like to put 3 Tablespoons milk in the mug, then add 4 mounded Tablespoons of the mix, stir and microwave for 1 minute.
I need a keto mug cake recipe!
