Additional Notes
Recipe adapted from 1st Traveler’s Choice Internet Cookbook
I ended up using the canned crushed pineapple with 100% pineapple juice – when you drain the can, it equals about 1/2 cup juice which is the perfect amount! I also used whipping cream for the 1/2 cup cream and it came out great. My kids are funny about the texture of walnuts so I kept those on the side. This a wonderful sweet and creamy treat plus it’s so easy!

Thanks Collin, We had something very similar at a Superbowl Party on Sunday. Hubby LOVED it… I think I’ll give this receipe a try.
Thank you! I will keep this recipe in mind for our Easter potluck! Looks yummy!
I realize Cool Whip is quick and easy. But read the ingredient list….
Water, hydrogenated vegetable oil (including coconut and palm oils), high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, skim milk, light cream, and less than 2% sodium caseinate (a milk derivative), natural and artificial flavor, xanthan and guar gums, polysorbate 60, sorbitan monostearate, and beta carotene (as a coloring).
Whipping cream is simply real heavy cream. Plain and simple. We try to avoid the chemicals when possible.
I’ve made Waldorf salad with Greek yogurt and it’s quite yummy.
If you don’t care for a recipe … Just pass on. Your commentary is quite unnecessary. Props to you on your healthy eating habits and happy coupon-ing 🙂
I actually appreciate the information bunny gave. I really had no idea. I am going to start making my own whipped cream. Thank you
I certainly didn’t mean to offend you. I was simply pointing out the ingredient list of Cool Whip. A lot of people really don’t know what’s in it.
The point of my post was to be informative. I don’t feel like it was judgmental but if you took it that way, then my sincerest apologies to you.
If you don’t care for her commentary just go on, your commentary is quite unnecessary!
I love Waldorf Salad. We serve this for every Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner.
But we have a much simpler recipe in Texas.
4 cups Apples (sweet such as winesap, Fuji, or gala or a mixture of those), celery, Pineapple tidbits, pecans, Whipping Cream, Mayo, Sugar, & Vanilla
Beat 1/4 cup whipping cream with a mixer until very thick and add 3 TBS powdered sugar. Mix together with Mayo. Then toss to lightly coat apples. This version just lightly coats the fruit. The picture above has them drowning in whipping cream. Here a pic of what it would look like –

llc, for some of us “the fruit drowning in whipping cream” is the only way my kids will eat this, and I don’t mind because at least I’m getting them to eat fruit. And my kids would never eat celery, so I would definitely have to omit that. I think I’ll stick with Lina’s yummy version. Thanks Lina, as always You always impress me with your recipes and pictures!
Thanks for reading Barb!
Your recipe and picture sounds and looks more like the one my mom use to make. If we didn’t have cream, she would use just mayo, mix mayo with plain or vanilla yogurt, or mix mayo with sour cream. Thanks for stirring up great memories.
Aw that’s nice, thanks!
Lina, I love your recipes, and your photographs always make everything look that much more appetizing!
Thanks so much!!

So Lina, I love all your recipes and cool ideas. Any way we can get a picture of you? I think you’ve made a lot of new fans on Hip2Save and we’d like to see you!
Thanks bunny we’ll have to work on that!!
I like that the fruit is drowning in the other contents of the recipe. For me it makes this dish almost like a dessert. I think the really sweet contents would make it a great compliment with something really seasoned.
Oh and your picture is beautiful..Looks like a magazine cover
I make something similar but never added in the grapes or pineapple will def try adding them the next time ……….
What I do differently is use 8 oz of vanilla non fat yogurt (use greek yogurt or add a Tbs of mayo to non-greek yorurt) (we love the brown cow brand) then I often make it a complete meal by adding cooked (usually grilled) chicken ……….kids and hubby all love this!
(I dont use the sugar flour butter cream or pineapple juice)
That sounds like a great idea! I’m definitely going to add the chicken! Thanks for the recipe, Lina, and to Cat and the other commenters for the variations/suggestions as well. Yum! Can’t wait to try this 🙂
