The Best Pumpkin Spice Scones with Cream Cheese Glaze
Skip pricey coffee shop scones and make your own at home!
These easy to make homemade pumpkin spice scones are full of fall-inspired flavors, and drizzled with a cream cheese glaze, for a memorable breakfast treat your family will love! The dough is very simple to make with common ingredients, and it bakes up into deliciously soft, crumbly scones.
Hip Tips:
- If you make scones often, consider getting a ceramic scone pan. I love mine, and how it makes perfectly shaped scones every time!
- Make sure to use a cold stick of butter. I like to use a cheese grater, but you can use a knife to cut your cold butter into very small pieces as well.
- Don’t have pumpkin pie spice? Make your own! Head on over here to get the recipe. It’s SO easy!
Pumpkin Spice Scones with Cream Cheese Glaze

These moist pumpkin spice scones with a yummy glaze are the perfect fall breakfast treat!
Ingredients
for the scones:
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 teaspoons pumpkin pie seasoning
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup cold butter, shredded or cut up in small cubes
- 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 egg
for the glaze:
- 3 tablespoons cream cheese, softened
- 1 tablespoon butter, softened
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- splash of vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons milk, or a tad more as needed
Directions
1
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Grease and flour a scone pan, or prep a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2
To a large mixing bowl, add flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, pumpkin spice, cinnamon and salt. Use a pastry cutter to cut in butter with the flour mixture, or you can use a fork to press mixture instead. Keep pressing until a crumb mixture forms.
3
In a separate bowl, whisk together pumpkin puree, milk, egg, and vanilla extract. Add that to the flour mixture, and use a wooden spoon to mix into a dough.
4
Transfer dough to scone pan and spread evenly. If you don't have a scone pan, form the dough into a round shape, place on the baking sheet, and flatten the dough down a bit into an 8 inch circle. Use a pizza cutter or knife to cut dough into 8 slices.
5
Bake scones for about 18-20 minutes. Insert a toothpick in the middle of a scone, and if it comes out clean, the scones are done. If not, place back in the oven for a couple of minutes until they are cooked through. Let cool.
6
For the glaze: Use a hand mixer to cream together all glaze ingredients. Drizzle on top of the scones.
Pumpkin spice is LIFE!
If you’re a big fan of fall baking like me, definitely put this on your list of baked goodies to make. It was simple and easy to make with minimal effort, and I like that this isn’t an overly sweet scone either. The pumpkin is subtle, yet tasty, and overall a delicious way to treat yourself and family!

Is there some liquid missing in this recipe… like cream or milk?
Oh my gosh YES! So sorry- add 1/4 cup milk or cream works too- with the puree- fixed! Thanks so much Anne!
