Easy Chia Seed & Berry Jam – Just THREE Ingredients (Ready in Only 15 Minutes)
Take advantage of inexpensive berries and whip up some easy homemade jam using healthy Chia seeds. Not only are Chia seeds loaded with fiber, protein, and Omega 3 but they also do a great job of thickening homemade jam! Use this yummy jam on toast, yogurt, oatmeal, and of course peanut better & jelly sandwiches.

Recipe Idea from Lexi’s Clean Kitchen
Hi Lina,
Great post! But I have read in couple of books that honey should not be cooked so csn we add honey after cooking?
Thanks
Oh I’m sure that works too!
In fact I’ve seen versions where you just purée and add chia seeds and honey and refrigerate, so no cooking 🙂
Sounds amazing! Thanks for the recipe!
tishabell, I wouldn’t hesitate to use frozen fruit. Maybe mix all ingredients & let the fruit thaw before proceeding w/ the rest of the recipe?
Any ideas how long this would last once made?
It said it lasts 1-2 weeks.
What’s the deal with chia seeds?
they are amazing for you!!! full of amino acids, fiber, protein, etc. love them!!
Are they the same thing as “Chia Pets?” Chi-chi-chi-CHIA!
Yep, same seeds. You can eat them as nutritional powerhouses, or grow chia “hair” on your choice of terra cotta characters: https://www.sporcle.com/games/HarryPotter14/ChChChChia
They are one of the few sources that we can get Omega 3s from–an essential fatty acid largely missing from our diets and important form cell repair and growth
We make it without cooking and put it in the fridge and it is ready in the morn. The kids love it! I even freeze jars of it ! Wonderful recipe!
Oh good idea on freezing!

Whoa… I just read the recent reviews of that product and was disgusted to hear about the rat feces. Thanks, no thanks.
Where did you get that from?? Really curious about your findings
No rat scat here but I did order that brand on Amz once during the great chia shortage of 2012 and many of the seeds had a bitter, almost rancid taste.
If you use chia seeds regularly like me I recommend ordering online from Chia Seeds Direct for bulk ordering which is less than half price of what I see in stores now. I have chia in my yogurt and my oatmeal daily. Even if it didn’t have health benefits I would still eat it. Makes my yogurt almost taste like tapioca 🙂
My dollar tree carries small bags of chia seeds!
I am a lil confused..how much. will this recipe make???.i would like to put it in mason jars. But dont know what size of thoes to get .My boys would love to make this ..and take camping..to make jelly turnovers..on the fire…w/the sandwitch maker tia
This made two small jelly jars for me. Thanks-
Lina, so glad you posted this. Been wanting to try! Thanks!
Sure! I think you’ll like it!
Thx so much for the info and this recipe and all the hard work you do..!!!!
Sure! Thanks for reading 🙂
I have a two year old and would prefer a lighter jam. Do you think this would work with mangoes??
Yes! Yum 🙂
Would the chia seeds stay hard or do they blend in when cooked? I guess I’m asking what the texture would be.
They soften when mixed with any type of liquid and taken on a gelatinous texture.
They are like tapioca pearls.
No soft- you don’t notice a grainy texture or anything. 🙂
Can you use frozen fruit? Thanks
My health concious 14 year old will love this recipe!
Here’s the thing: heating honey removes some of its best qualities.
Ergo, heating honey renders the expense spent on raw honey worthless.
Ergo, don’t use raw honey in food that is going to be heated.
Least expensive way to buy chia seeds is in the bulk bins at Whole Foods or Sprouts. We add them to our morning green smoothies.
Ive made this and it camee out too thin
Oh no- try adding a little more chia seed, mine was pretty thick.
We have found that Costco less the least expensive Chia Seeds. Also, you can use chia seeds as an egg substitute.
For an egg substitute grind up chia seeds. Use 1 Tbsp chia and 3 Tbsp water for 1 egg.
You can also mix ground flax seed with water for an egg substitute, I did not know you could do it with chia seeds, I use chia seeds in an over night oatmeal recipe that I use with my Premier Protein shakes and I also have another chia pudding recipe that I like
Do you think I could process and can these in a water bath like I do my normal jams?
I’ve been looking for a jam that my 1-year-old can have, but when the organic kinds contain added sugar! I’m so glad I’ve found one she can eat, and is SO easy to make! It is delicious, much better than anything you can buy at the store. This will always be my go-to. Thank you!
Can this be made with ground flaxseed instead of chia?
