Makes 5-6 sandwiches. I am a big fan of this recipe due to the brilliant flavors of sherry and shallots. It tastes fancy, but comes together in just a few minutes! Enjoy. 🙂

Can you use beef stock in place of th consume?
I’m sure you could. It should be pretty similar. thanks
This sounds awesome!! I want to add some provolone and some bell peppers to make it a philly! Thank you!
I’m sorry but adding peppers makes it a Chicago NOT a Philly! I’m not directing this at you, sorry, pet peeve that there are so many places that say they have “Philly cheese steaks” and then add stuff like peppers. Grr…just frustrated I can’t get a good Philly where I live 😉 …I hope you enjoy your sandwich however you choose to make it 🙂
Thx so much for this recipe.. It looks pretty easy and i think i am going to try this for camping. YUMMY.. i just have 1q… what type of seasoning are you talking about??? The packet type??or something i am supposed to make ?? Tia.. i am still trying to figure this cooking thing out..lol.
I buy McCormick’s steak seasoning. It’s in the spice aisle in a plastic shaker jar. It’s really good on burgers too!
Yes we like that one too
I used a steak blend of seasoning that has garlic pepper and paprika.
Thx… so much for ur help ladies..:).. This site has taught me so many things.
Hoping the hubby will make this for me! Looks delicious!
Re: “cooking” Sherry. Almost any wine labeled “cooking” has added salt and possibly other ingredients. Depending on the consumme or broth you use, this could end up being very salty.
We have French dips all the time (my favorite). I make it much simpler. 1.5lbs of thin roast beef, a packet of asjus…make asjus according to package (2cups of water). Once it boils add the meat. While that’s soaking I thinly slice an onion. Sauté that with some butter. Then serve it all on a picnic bun with Swiss cheese and horseradish (if desired)
Many grocery stores by me will give free “au jus” when you buy your roast beef from the deli counter.
Good tip! I hope some of the stores near me do!
I make French Dips a lot. They are so easy and my kids love them. I just split french dip rolls, put mayo and italian seasoning on the tops and roast beef topped with provolone on the bottoms and broil for 3 minutes. For the au jus I just use whatever I have. . .beef consume, broth or make some with beef bullion cubes.
Eating this as we speak. It was a HUGE hit with everyone! It’s quick and easy, perfect for week nights!
I used to make French dip sandwiches in the crockpot – easy and fairly cheap way to make my husband a meaty dish. Using pre-cooked, pre-sliced roast beef sounds even simplier. I like to slice French hamburger buns from the bakery, spread the halves with margarine, and toast them in the oven. I add a clump of shredded mozzarella cheese on the top half a few minutes before I take them out so the cheese just barely starts to melt. I love the crunch it gives the bun and the cheese with the warm au jus gets yummy and gooey 🙂
Thanks for the reminder – I need to make sure those get put back in the rotation soon (and do a better job keeping track of dinner winners)
Oh yum! Yes this is a good one 👍 Thanks for stopping by!
