Easy Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Squares (Just 4 Ingredients)
It’s NEVER too early to start eating pumpkin! 🎃
If you’re a fan of all things pumpkin, then you’ve gotta whip up these chocolate chip pumpkin spice cake squares that require only FOUR simple ingredients, and just a few minutes to prepare!
Adding a can of pumpkin purée to a box of cake mix has been my favorite go-to method for quick pumpkin treats for the last several years, and it creates a cake that is perfectly moist and truly delicious!
This time, I’ve added a cup of chocolate chips to the mixture and used a 9″ x 13″ baking dish. The end result is a dense yet soft snack cake, which I cut up into squares and serve right from the pan.
You can make muffins or cookies using this yummy recipe. Just drop down the temp to 350 and reduce the cooking time to 20-25 minutes.

Based on the ingredients list it looks like a pretty “healthy”option for a dessert! Thanks for sharing!
I never thought of adding an egg to make this recipe into squares. I’ve been making the cookie version of this recipe for years and it’s delicious. Add a teaspoon of Trader Joe’s bourbon vanilla extract to make it even better.
Thanks, Lina! I’m putting mine in the oven now. My daughter has been requesting a pumpkin dessert and these look delicious.
Oh yay! Enjoy! YUMMY 🙂
any idea if this will work at high altitude? (5000 ft) thanks!
Hi, kate! I used to live in high altitude and for something like this, I would add 2 Tablespoons of flour and it will work.
What about a gluten free mix? Has anyone tried it? They usually don’t the same amout of batter, so I am not sure if it would work… 🙄
I’ve tried the cookie version with gluten free and it wasn’t very good 😕
Is anyone else having trouble finding canned pumpkin? Is there a shortage?
Darn I just bought some yesterday at Frys (Kroger) Hope you can find some soon!
I don’t like spice cake. So can anyone recommend a substitution for the cake box ingredient? Would vanilla cake be a good substitution?
Yes, with an addition of pumpkin pie spice to the batter. 1-2t should do the trick! Enjoy
These are super delish! Thanks for sharing.
Oh good! You’re welcome – thanks for coming back to let us know!
Made these twice recently. Definitely a keeper
Can pure pumpkin be used?
yep pure pumpkin puree is what I used! Hope that helps 🙂
Can you use a bundt cake pan, & if so what time & temperature
Yes. A bundt cake I believe would have a bit longer bake time around 40-45 minutes. Check with a toothpick to see when inserted it comes back clean, then done.
