Homemade Otter Pops (Blueberry Coconut and Mango Carrot Recipes)
If your kids beg for Otter Pops every day during the summer like mine do, then check out this easy way to make your own homemade version! The best part is that you can customize them with healthier dye-free ingredients according to what your kids love and use whatever fruit and juice combinations you happen to have in your fridge or freezer. Make them ahead of time and pack as a portable snack in a lunchbox with a freezer pack.
Before getting started, I highly recommend purchasing these Zipzicle – Zip-Top Ice-Pop Pouches – each package comes with 12 pouches and each pouch holds approximately 2.5 ounces. I wash these pouches in soapy water and then rinse and air dry them after each use so that they can be re-used. The pouches are available on Amazon.com and/or at your local Cost Plus World Market.
Tips for using:
Blend your fruit and juice combinations well in a blender. Use a turkey baster or batter pen to fill the pouches (I also carefully used a Pyrex measuring glass with a spout). The key is to place the pouch standing up in a jar or tall cup and to open pouch all the way up to loosen the plastic before pouring; otherwise, the liquid may come back up and make a mess.
After filling each pouch, I placed all the pouches standing up straight in a plastic cup and froze them in the cup over night. When you are ready to enjoy, just unzip the top and push up like an Otter Pop! Here are two yummy recipes that I created – both are delicious and refreshing…
Blueberry Coconut Homemade Otter Pops
*2 cups blueberries
* 1 cup pure coconut water
*1/2 cup orange juice
*2 Tablespoons Honey
Blend ingredients well, fill pouches, and freeze. Makes 12
Mango Carrot Homemade Otter Pops
*3 mangoes, peeled, chopped
*1 cup pineapple juice
*1/2 cup carrot juice
*2 Tablespoons honey
Blend ingredients well, fill pouches, and freeze. Makes 12
My family loved these homemade Otter Pops so I hope you’ll give them a try!

Sure Amy- Thanks for reading!
Awesome recipes! We have silicone popsicle molds that work really well and are super easy to maintain that will work well with this idea. 🙂 https://www.amazon.com/FoodWorks-Silicone-Maker-Molds-Popsicle/dp/B00D9HQ30W
Oh great! Thanks for sharing. 😀
Bed bath & beyond has skinny-zipper bags like these too, near popsicle molds.
Thanks I want to make them for myself as well!!! Didn’t know ziplock make such a bag.
My kids, 5 and 1.5 recently became obsessed with otter pops from the store. Then I found out they have high fructose syrup in them so I stopped buying them and have been on the hunt for a healthy alternative! Thank you so much for posting this! I can not tell you how much I appreciate it!!!!!!!
Oh sure! I like that you can adapt these ideas and use whichever fruit and juice your kids like. 😀 Thanks Liz!
I made these when this was posted before and my son was mid blueberry obsession. Both my kids didn’t care for the heavy pulp, so if you’re kids are like that, maybe strain before filling the bags. They were really easy to make. I still have more pop bags so I think I’ll try the other kind with them.
One that I really like (tastes like a pina colada) is 1 frozen banana, 1 cup frozen mango, 1 cup frozen pineapple and 1 cup coconut milk (may have to add more or add water to get it to blend smooth).
One of my professors in college was the guy who designed otter pops 😉
