Build Your Own Hot Dog Bar for a Crowd!
Here’s an impressive way to serve a hot dog bar for your next gathering with all the fixings!
Need an easy lunch or dinner idea that’s also affordable and delicious?
How about creating an epic hot dog bar charcuterie-style on a board with all the yummy toppings and condiments?!
All you have to do is grab some small bowls or ramekins and go to town filling them with fun hot dog add-ons like salsa, pepperoncini peppers, pickles, mustard, etc. Taking the time to remove the packaging and pouring items into bowls makes it such a beautiful presentation!
The result is a fancy-looking tray with lots of options for everyone to customize their hot dog as desired! The best part is it’s so easy to compile and you can use up fridge odds and ends for toppings.
Here’s what I added to my hot dog bar to include some unique topping ideas:
- guacamole & pico de galo salsa
- fresh jalapeños & nacho cheese
- sautéed bell peppers and onions
- pickles, olives, pepperoncini
- mustard, ketchup, fry sauce
- chopped onions and crispy fried onions
Tips for building the best hot dog bar party board:
- If hot dogs aren’t your favorite, consider grilling brats instead. I personally love par-boiling brats in beer first with onions and spices to soften them first, then grilling. YUMMO!
- In order to keep the hot dogs warm and buns fresh, I recommend placing all your toppings and condiments first on the board. That part takes the longest, and then after that grill your hot dogs and serve right away!
- Another helpful option is to buy these warming hot dog pouches from Amazon.com. If you’re doing a large event these may be handy to keep dogs warm longer.
- Are you curious about my pretty oversized tray? It can be found on Target.com, and I truly love it and incorporate it into my decor when it’s not being used. Any large tray, cutting board, or sheet pan would be excellent for this idea.

I LOVE a good grilled hot dog once in a while! 🌭
Creating a large board of toppings to go along with hot dogs is such a genius meal idea. It’s fun to brainstorm your own combo of add-ons and enjoy. The possibilities are endless. I honestly wanted to include more, but kind of ran out of room. 😂 My kids suggested adding relish, or maybe even chili and freshly shredded cheese.
My family was super psyched to see this as a meal and I know yours will too. I plan to do this again in the fall for football season, as this would be great game-day food!
Use this same try to make a giant s’mores snack board later on for dessert!
My family likes a hot dog bar. I have one I’d the 3 crock pots that are attached….like a serving tray…..and I put cheese sauce in one, hit dog chili in another, and sauerkraut in the last.
Oh that sounds like a neat set up!
I love this! We have the triple crockpot, too, and I hardly ever use it. What a great idea 🙂
We are going to be moving out of state next year and I was thinking of having some kind of get together to see everyone before we leave. Since it’ll be after school gets out, a cookout would be perfect and this is such a great way to set things up!
I love the hot dog bar idea! We have a hot dog roller to roll hot dogs. Rolled hot dogs are the best ever! Now I can make a fun hot dog bar along with the roller. We take the roller to my daughters college lacrosse games and tailgate with the other parents before and after the games.
Ohhh SO FUN!!! Now I want one! ha
Hey H2S- not sure where to send this, but you can get an amazon Smart Plug for $.99, regularly $24.99, when you use the code PLUG at checkout.
Thanks so much for sharing that! 💗
I tried but could not get this tip to work. Any suggestions? I put in the Amazon plug that was regularly $24.99 and put PLUG in promotion code. There are many on sale but can’t get the 99 cents.
Hmm, I’m not sure, sorry! Maybe it’s just for some Prime members?
Hey there! I did check in to this, as we had it posted here previously, and it looks like it was only for select account holders. Hoping this is helpful! ❤️
My daughter did this for my grandson’s “Camping” birthday party. We put the hot dogs in a crockpot. It worked out really well. We had other food but this was fun to serve.
Oh i love that! So smart 👏
