Make AMAZING Guacamole at Home… and Freeze It to Enjoy Later!
Love fresh guacamole?🥑
It’s a MUST have at my house as we could probably eat yummy guac every single day, especially on Taco Tuesday! 🌮 It also happens to be super easy to make at home. The secret is to use ripe avocados and fresh ingredients – no seasoning packets needed. In fact, I normally don’t even use a specific recipe, you can just sort of eyeball these ingredients to your specific taste.
Easy Homemade Guacamole
yield: 6 SERVINGS
prep time: 5 MINUTES
cook time: 5 MINUTES
total time: 10 MINUTES
Fresh guacamole dip or side item to add lots of yummy creamy flavor to your main dish.

- 3 medium avocados. ripened, seeded
- 1/4 cup cilantro, chopped
- 1/2 cup red onion, chopped
- 1/2 cup tomatoes, chopped (If freezing leftovers, consider skipping tomatoes)
- 1/2 of a jalapeno, seeded, chopped
- juice of 1 lime
- pinch or two of salt
- tortilla chips for serving, if desired
Directions

Scoop out avocado into a medium bowl and mash. Careful not to over mash if you prefer a more chunky texture.
2
Stir in remaining ingredients with a spoon.
3
Chill guacamole covered in fridge until ready to serve.
Yes! Homemade guacamole is the best!
We like to eat it as a dip, inside salads, on top of hamburgers, tacos, enchiladas, and more. You can even go further and season it with garlic and cumin. In a pinch, just mash fresh avocados and combine with your favorite salsa. It can be super versatile!
Curious about the fun bowl I used in these pictures?
It’s a mortar & pestle set found here. You can use it for crushing spices and herbs, making dressings, as well as making delicious guacamole!
Can I freeze guacamole?
Yes, you can! Avocados are on sale at my grocery store this week for just $.69/each, so I made a couple of batches of guacamole, filled a few seal-able plastic baggies, and placed in the freezer to enjoy with future meals.
To defrost, simply move to the fridge or soak the bag in room temperature water for 20 minutes. Next time I’d skip the tomatoes in my guacamole if planning to freeze because they didn’t freeze very well. The taste and texture were pretty good still when defrosted and will be perfect when we NEED a midweek guacamole fix!
Thank you!! I have no idea why it never occurred to me to freeze guacamole!! We have a ginormous avocado tree and we give most of our avocados away because we can’t use them all fast enough! I’m so excited to preserve some avocado goodness for the rest of the year!
Wow…I’m super jealous!!!
That’s awesome you have a tree 😀 Enjoy!
that’s awesome! Where do you live?
Amanda are we neighbors?? I maybe missing out :)! It’s awesome that u have 1.
Wow how does it survive in harsh weather
I peel and slice avocados and freeze them to put in smoothies. You have to let them thaw a bit before you use them or you don’t get the same creamy result of fresh, but it works great. Frozen keeps so much longer than trying to use a fresh one over 2-3 days.
I seriously considered buying a particular house years ago because there was an avocado tree in the backyard. A friend talked me out of it… friends don’t always give good advice.
I freeze smashed avocado in ice cube trays then pop them into a freezer bag. If my child want avocado toast for breakfast she takes one cube and microwaves it for a few seconds.
We are big guac fans! My husband makes some of the best guacamole I’ve ever had… he skips the jalapeño and tomato but adds garlic, cumin, salt, & cayenne pepper… sooo good! Also, to mash the avocados, we just use a potato masher; it works great 😀
Perfect! Great idea 👍
Can I have the recipe please? My husband loves guacamole
He just eyeballs it each time with those spices plus the mashed avocado, chopped red onion, cilantro, & lime juice
Look up Alton Browns guacamole recipe. It sounds very similar, using same spices. It is my go to.
My friend lives in Pasadena tx , she has a big tree with avocados 🥑 have to call her right so she won’t forget me , I could eat some now !!!😋
I made guac and put the leftovers in the fridge and the next day it was brown! How do u keep it from changing color?
Ya if making fresh I try to eat same day, but some say adding extra lime juice on top then sealing with plastic wrap really well works….
I am not good at picking avocados at the market even after looking up online for tricks. I end up with raw ones turned out ripe or stay raw with brown spots inside….now I buy store made 😞
They should give only slightly when you give a gentle squeeze. Hope this helps.
You have to keep the air out of it. Plastic wrap on the surface or even water on top of the guac will help keep oxidation from happening. The pit won’t help, so discard it.
I use my foodsaver for left over guac. Works great! You can refrigerate or freeze and it will NOT turn brown!
I need a food saver!!! Glad to hear you have good results 👍
I’m wondering the same thing!! help us!!
This is so sacrilegious as a Mexican.. But then again, I’m living overseas and avocado’s are precious. Thanks for the idea. 🙂 your guacamole looks yummy
Lina, how long do you freezing for?I’ll try and see how it comes out. Thank you for the tip!
I would say up to three months 👍 thanks Yar

We live in Southern California, no harsh weather 😉 the tree must be over a hundred years old, it’s so massive. I’d share with you all if I could!
where in CA do you live
I’m in So Cal too. I’m with Nona – curious where in So Cal you live Amanda? I’m near Knott’s Berry Farm.
Penzey’s Spices brand Arizona seasoning is my shortcut for faster guacamole. It’s salt-free, so I can add my own (helpful when making guac for little ones!). Their quality & price of spices is top notch. sign up for Penzey’s emails and they send coupons for a new free spice every few weeks or so!
Looks really good but this will need garlic powder (to taste). I live in TX and previously in So. Cal. 🙂
