If you’re looking for an easy weeknight meal all will love, try this tasty Mississippi chicken recipe featuring Greek Peperoncini peppers.
Add this delicious chicken recipe to the menu plan this week!
Mississippi chicken has just 5 ingredients and can easily be made by adding everything to the Crock-Pot. If you’re having a busy week and don’t want to use the oven, this could be a perfect option for dinner. The seasoned shredded chicken turns out tender, juicy, and super flavorful. The au jus sauce is buttery and delicious too!
I served this for my family as sandwiches with coleslaw and they LOVED it so much. It’s been a while since anyone has gotten excited about a slow cooker meal, and this one impressed! I opted to eat mine as a low-carb salad and it was yummy served that way too. Another idea would be to serve your chicken over rice or mashed potatoes instead.

Extra tips for making this Mississippi chicken recipe:
- You can make this chicken in the oven instead of a slow cooker. try adding all the ingredients to a baking dish. Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes at 425 degrees until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees.
- Prefer beef instead of chicken? We have made this recipe before using a chuck roast and it’s also insanely YUM! Mississippi pot roast is one of our favs too and you can make it using the same ingredients and slow cooker directions.
- Leftovers are wonderful warmed up again the next day. Keep them in the fridge in a storage container for up to 3-4 days.
This Mississippi chicken recipe is the way to go!
If you enjoy highly seasoned chicken this is a winner. It’s tangy yet not spicy and I love the buttery sauce. This is something I know my teens can handle making on their own too. My son is now living away from home and always calls me for easy dinner ideas for him to make, and I’m passing along this simple Mississippi chicken recipe idea to him soon!
This viral “marry me” chicken recipe is worth a try as well!

Oh yay….That’s so great to hear. Thanks, KB!
I have never had Mezzetta Golden Greek Peperoncini before. Could I substitute maybe banana peppers? What else could I use as a substitute?
I really like the simple recipes that you provide!
Yes they are super similar in taste and texture. Great call! Thanks so much John!
Thanks goes to Hip2Save ladies. By the way I have to try the Simple Homemade Pizza Bites!
You’re very welcome, John! Hoping you love the pizza bites! 🍕 We’d love to hear what you think after trying them! ❤️
You can make a chuck roast the exact same way! It’s absolutely delicious. 🙂
YUM! Thanks, Amy! 😋
This is soooo good! I don’t like spicy heat so next time I will take the seeds out of the peppers and cut them in strips in hopes to calm it down. Also, I would have liked to have more gravy so I will add some broth. Don’t get me wrong though it was wonderful as made, just making it a little more to my taste. (My husband loves spicy so he liked it, if my sons are around I will not try to tone it down as they like hot too).
So glad to hear it was a hit! Thanks for sharing the adjustments you’ll be making! Hoping you’ll enjoy it even more after tweaking it a bit! ❣️
