Orange Push-Up Popsicles (Easy 3-Ingredient Summer Treat)
Looking for a refreshing summer dessert recipe?🍊
If you’re like me, you grew up eating those oh so delicious Push-Up Popsicles that tasted like orange sherbet. Today, I’m sharing an easy-to-make DIY version that requires just three simple ingredients. They’re perfect for a hot summer day to help you cool down and beat the heat!
These popsicles have a sherbet-like texture, so they do melt a little faster than traditional store-bought popsicles. They are a great afternoon snack for the kiddos or a yummy dessert that you can serve at your next cookout!
Bet ya can’t eat just one! 😋
Hip recipe tips when making orange sherbet push-up popsicles:
- Add the heavy cream last! I repeat…heavy cream needs to be added last, as you will want the Jell-O mixture to be cool before adding.
- I used these Frozip Popsicle Molds, but you can use any molds you already have on hand. Push-up type molds like Frozip will work the best for these, as this is a softer texture like sherbert. I love how easy the tubes are to use for this recipe, and I would not recommend using the hard-sides popsicle molds.
- I use a silicone funnel to get the mixture easily into the popsicle modes (one actually comes with the FroZip package). Plus, it’s not as messy that way!
- Try adding fresh fruit to these for a richer, even more fruity flavor.
- Want to try other flavors? Any frozen juice and Jell-O combination will work. I like using frozen lime juice and lime Jell-O for a bolder citrus flavor.
Don’t have popsicle molds on hand?
You can use Dixie cups for cheap popsicle molds! We actually used these cups when making these yummy keto strawberry cheesecake popsicles.
Orange Push-Up Popsicles
yield: 8 SERVINGS
prep time: 5 MINUTES
total time: 5 MINUTES
This cool summer treat tastes like creamy orange sherbet push-up pops, and is such a cinch to make using fillable popsicle tubes.
Ingredients
- 6 oz. box orange Jell-O
- 2 cups boiling water
- 12 oz. can frozen orange juice
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
Directions
1
In a pitcher or large bowl, add in orange Jell-O and 2 cups of boiling water. Stir until the gelatin powder is completely dissolved.
2
To the pitcher or bowl, add in frozen orange juice. Don't worry about thawing the juice. Just incorporate it while frozen, as this will help cool down the Jell-O. Stir until the orange juice has completely dissolved and mixed together.
3
Next, slowly add in the heavy cream and stir.
4
Pour into popsicle tube molds and freeze for 8-10 hours, or until ready to enjoy!
As you can see, these popsicles were a total hit with my kiddos!
We had a little backyard picnic and they were such a delicious dessert to have at the end of our lunch. If your kiddos are bored, you can even have them help with making them since it’s such a simple recipe.
My team member, Jenna, tested out this popsicle recipe, and here’s what she had to say:
“The flavor of these popsicles is truly spot on to the taste of the original Push-Ups that I loved during my childhood. The creamy orange flavor is so delicious and refreshing, especially on a hot summer day.
I LOVE that there is no need to thaw the orange juice as that makes this process even easier. I opted to use popsicle molds instead of the fillable tubes that Ashley used but had a hard time getting them out, so next time I’m going to use the nifty fillable tubes. Because the texture is more creamy rather than firm, I don’t recommend using a solid popsicle mold form like I did.” – Jenna
Try making this homemade pineapple Dole whip, too!
Can this be placed in a large container and then scooped out in a cup?
Yes, however we would suggest that you freeze it for a full 24 hours. Enjoy!
Thank you for the recipe. I was just talking to someone about wishing the stores still had them.
Oh perfect! You’re welcome, Jeanette!
Target used to have some in their brand but I haven’t seen them in a few years they were so good
Maybe you’ll want to give this recipe a try! Let us know if they taste as good (or better) than Target’s brand! Thanks!
Sounds super yummy, but the sugar content must be insane!
I’m sure it would work with sugarfree jello, as well.
Do you think coconut milk would work in place of the whipping cream?
That’s what I was thinking about using! I think a full fat coconut milk would be good in these!!
Yes! That’s a great idea and an excellent way to infuse a tropical taste!
Would you use the liquid in a can of coconut milk along with the white fat?
Followed the directions and while freezing the creamy part was separating from the jello. I emptied all the tubes added a little more cream and used the wisk attachment on my immersion blender.. refilled the tubes. Fingers crossed
