Slow Cooker Honey Sesame Chicken Recipe
Craving delicious Asian cuisine?
Don’t you love it when you try a dinner recipe found via Pinterest and it turns out to be fantastic? This one is a winner for my family so today I’m passing it on to you. If you love Asian inspired food, then you’ll really like this! I added fresh ginger to the original recipe and it takes it to a whole new level. Plus, your kitchen will smell like PF Chang’s! 😋
You can even use frozen chicken – just double the cooking time. This recipe is a little extra work at the end due to the shredding of the chicken and thickening of the sauce with cornstarch. However, the outcome is totally worth it! This is what makes it taste like it didn’t come from a slow cooker! yield: 5 SERVINGS Super easy recipe to make during your weekdays to change up your dinner meal. We love the combination of the rice and honey sesame chicken in the slow cooker! Adapted from The Comfort of Cooking
1
Place chicken in the slow cooker and lightly season both sides with salt and pepper.
2
In a medium bowl, combine onion, garlic, honey, ketchup, soy sauce, ginger, oil, and red pepper flakes. Pour over chicken. Cook on low for 3-4 hours, or high for 2 hours.
3
Remove chicken to a cutting board, leaving sauce. Shred chicken into bite-sized pieces; set aside.
4
In a small bowl, dissolve 4 teaspoons cornstarch in 1/3 cup water; add to crock pot. Stir to combine with sauce. Cover and cook sauce on high for ten more minutes, or until slightly thickened.
5
Serve with your favorite rice, and top with chicken, spooning the sauce over top. Sprinkle evenly with sesame seeds and chopped scallions.Slow Cooker Honey Sesame Chicken

I’m actually making Collins sweet and sour chicken tonight (it’s a favorite in our house), but I can’t wait to try this one next week! Thx Collin!
🙂
I can’t find the recipe. Can you share again? Thanks!

I’ll just add that we love to use 3 breasts, keeping the sauce volume as listed in the recipe.. Then we dice up a pepper (red or green, whatever we have on hand) and toss in to lightly sauté after the chicken cooks. Then stir it in with chicken, sauce and pineapples. We serve it with jasmine rice. So so yummy!
This looks yummy! Is there anything I can substitute for the ketchup? I am doing a clean eating challenge and ketchup is not allowed.
Since it’s such a small amount, try mixing a small amount of tomato paste, vinegar, and sugar for a similar taste.
Thanks! All your recipes look awesome.
I have to say I just found this blog and I adore it already! You are amazing, Collin!
Awe… thank so much, Sue! Glad you are enjoying the blog! 🙂
I have this same recipe or one very similar to it pinned on Pinterest and it is soooo good! Everyone I have made it for loves it and it is super easy.
I have made this it is SOOOOOO good!
Can you substitute with powdered ginger? Maybe one or two tsp.
You could but use very little. I also love ginger paste (found in the produce section) for the convenience 🙂
Instead of shredding my chicken by hand I just put it in my Kitchenaid mixer with the paddle for a couple minutes and voila! Shredded chicken without all the work 🙂
I do the same thing. It is so fast and easy. I will never shred chicken by hand again!
I’m drooling right now 🙂
Going to try this for dinner instead of pancakes tonight! It looks soooo delicious!
Somewhat off topic, but my crock pot broke today. Anyone have a recommendation? I probably need about a 7 qt. size.
Costco has a nice digital large crockpot that comes with a free Little Dipper crock for $29.99. Great deal.
Thanks Collin! This sounds really delicious! And PF Changs is too far away for us to drive!
oh my, this sounds so delicious! I know what i’m buying to make for Saturday (this is because i’ll probably be sick of leftovers and want something new
Hi Collin,
Isn’t your husband doing gluten free? I say that because I have seen you post gluten free recipes before. Soy sauce has wheat in it so be careful if he is following it for health reasons. Thanks for all that you do!
Laura
There are gluten free soy sauces available. Kroger’s brand might even be. Certainly check each and every purchase as production changes unexpectedly!
This recipe sounds amazing. Who doesn’t love a good slow cooker recipe, especially if it ends with hot, yummy sesame chicken?
Making this this afternoon, anybody add any vegetables to this while it was cooking?
The recipe was delicious! I sauteed zucchini at the end of the cooking time and mixed it with the chicken in the serving bowl.
Yum!! Sounds great. Thanks Robyn 😀
Do the red pepper flakes make it spicy at all? I have 2 kids that can’t handle spice.
You can add what you feel is best. I would not say it’s spicy though because of the honey. Hope that helps 😀
