We love this recipe so much, as it makes such smooth and velvety hot cocoa. My daughter’s 1st-grade teacher made it for the class one year and gave me the recipe. It sure does remind me of when my kids were younger. Enjoy!
Here’s what my teammate Jenna had to say after making this hot chocolate:
This was fun to make and the perfect time of year for it! I have made other slow cooker hot cocoa recipes that never turned out as awesome as this one — it’s easy to follow and tastes so great! I did find that whisking the hot cocoa a few times really helped to incorporate the chocolate into the milk before serving. I especially love that it can be refrigerated and it heats up beautifully the next day!
We use this recipe every year on Christmas Eve and it’s delicious!!
Nice! I love that tradition ❤️Thanks for sharing!
OMG! That sounds delicious. I must go shopping today! 😂
Yes it’s worth it!
Love this recipe. Its a winter family favorite!
Oh yay – it’s a keeper!
This is the best!! My kids ask for it every year!
Yes! It truly is – thanks for sharing!
I think I’ll make this for my students this year! What a great treat on the last day before Christmas break!
How fun <3
I make hot chocolate for my students every year. I simply use chocolate milk in my crockpot. Add some marshmallows. Kids always live it and it’s much easier and cheaper!
My simple crockpot recipe is pretty amazing–jar of nutella, bag of chocolate chips and milk. Seriously…it’s delicous and easy. Even better with a cup of salted caramel Baileys in it.
That sounds delicious!
I’m gonna add a trick we just learned. We started adding Aldi Cookie Butter creamer to it. So good!
Wow yum!
Super delish!! Made this for my students once & they LOVED it!!! Been my go-to group recipe for a few years thanks to H2S
Oh that’s so fun to hear! Thanks so much!
Thank you for sharing! Perfect timing for a little neighborhood get together!
Oh nice – enjoy.
Lina! Your recipes are killing my waistline 😝 my pants don’t love you but my stomach and I sure do! Thanks for posting so much yummyness…
Haha 😆 thanks Monique!
I know this might sound crazy but my grandmother used to add a little bit of butter to her homemade hot chocolate. She wouldn’t put it in the main pot, but would add a thin slab to everyone’s cup after she ladled it out. It made it extra rich and cut the sweetness. It was so good! So if you are already indulging, give it a try-you might be surprised.
I can see that! Thanks for sharing!
How big should the slow cooker be? I don’t own one and would like to do this recipe
I have a 6 quart Crock-Pot and it fit nicely. I would say around that size.
Could you use the slow cooker button in the instant pot
Yes! 🙂
OMG 😱!! We just made a test batch of this before the big day. It is incredibly, super rich. I want to know how you got Judy to give you the recipe. 700 years in the making and so simple.
This looks good, I want this right now but it’s 3am lol. I gotta try this!
Yes it’s so yum! Thanks for stopping by!
I used this recipe for the first time for my Girl Scouts Holiday party. I have 8 girls in my troop and this was gone in a few minutes. It was truly one of the best hot chocolates I’ve ever made and had. Thank you!
YAY!!! That is so awesome. Thanks for sharing!
I really like this idea because it is a good sharing drink for adults and kids. A lot easier to do this than individual mugs. Thank you. Will definitely save this page to use in the future.
Perfect! Thanks for sharing <3
Hi! Could I use a milk alternative like oat milk?
Ya i would add in your preffered non dairy milk!
How many oz/cups does this make?
Estimating about 8-10 cups.
Ever since you first posted this, it’s been my go-to…simply the best! Thank you SO much!
Oh yay, that’s great to hear!
Do NOT put plastic utensils in hot food items or hot food items in plastic containers!
Hi Eileen, unsure where you are seeing that. I am using a silicone ladle and ceramic stoneware mugs in the photos. Hope that helps!
We also add evaporated milk. It’s soooo good! Glad to see you’re not using water. I’ve never understood using water for hot chocolate. 🤢
Yes, I agree on that! I will try the evap milk! Great tip!
How much evap milk? I can not wait to do this with my grandchildren
So I don’t use the heavy cream and I would just use a can of evaporated milk.
Can you double the ingredients to make more???
Yes! great idea, if it will fit then I think will be perfect for a large party!
We make a white hot chocolate with basically the same recipe 🙂
Yum!!! Thanks for sharing, Allyushka!🥰
I made this and it is absolutely delicious. I decided to use what I have on hand because we had a huge snow storm and I didn’t want to go out. Anyway I didn’t have condensed milk, I used Evaporated milk and a half cup of sugar. I also didn’t have semi sweet chocolate so I used milk chocolate chips instead. Other than that the recipe was as written. It is very rich and delicious. Thanks Hip2Save team for another great recipe. Happy Holidays to your families Hip2Save!!
Oh I am so glad it turned out! Sounds delicious. Happy Holidays to you as well. Thank you for coming back to let us know!
Does it make a difference taste wise what percent milk you use? Just curious what everyone else uses whole, 2%, 1% or skim milk?
Hi Mary! You can use any percentage.🎄Enjoy!🥰
Where are the cute snowman faces from? Did you decorate marshmallows or white chocolate melts? They are cute!
Hi Meg! You can find those cute snowmen linked in the post in a blue box that says “Check out this fun hot cocoa snowman trimming kit with the faces and candy canes! It makes this idea even more festive and fun.” ⛄️🤍
This looks SO good, and could be made completely sugar free! There are recipes for ( sugar free) homemade sweetened condensed milk, Max mallows are sugar free, and Lily’s chocolate chips. Substitute the milk for a carb friendly option…Oh, and sugar free peppermints! It would not be calorie free, but at least it’s sugar free.
YUMMY! Great suggestions for swapping out some of these for sugar free options, Lisa! Thanks so much for taking the time to share! ❤️
Thanks for the recipe! I am not seeing the little icon at the top to pin your posts anymore. Am I missing it?
