Ready for the ultimate Oreo dessert?

The simplicity of just whipping up some heavy cream and adding a couple of layers of Oreo cookies inside a springform pan is the ultimate easy summer dessert idea. I love that the kids can help make this versatile and appealing summer treat, and there’s no baking involved!

This delicious icebox cake is made with classic Oreo Cookies and chocolate-flavored whipped cream filling. Once everything is in the fridge overnight, the cookies soften, and it taste more like a “cake”. The result is a rich and creamy dessert that tastes fancy, yet is super easy to make!

It has a rich chocolate mouse taste and everyone will LOVE it.

Does this no-bake Oreo dessert go in the freezer or the fridge?

Truthfully, I have tried either and a mix of both. It’s up to your preference. If stored in the fridge, the cake will be softer almost like a no-bake cheesecake texture. If you store it in the freezer it’s more like a frozen ice cream cake. If frozen, you’ll need to allow some time to soften to be able to cut it.

We sometimes freeze the leftovers and then let it thaw for a few minutes to serve again! Yum!

Extra tips for making this easy Oreo icebox cake:

  • I used a 10-inch springform pan for this dessert. Once chilled, I ran a knife around the edges, so the sides come off easily for serving. It makes for a beautiful presentation, too.
  • There are so many variations of this dessert idea you could make. You could use chocolate chip cookies, and omit the cocoa powder for a vanilla filling. Using the Lemon Oreos and adding lemon zest to the filling would be fantastic, too. The possibilities are endless!
  • Can I use Cool Whip instead of whipped cream? I think you could experiment with that! If you have made this using Cool Whip, let us know.
  • This is a perfect make-ahead dessert for parties! You can even prep this a day ahead of time since it stores well when covered in the fridge or freezer.

This “cake” is a chocolate masterpiece!

Oh my goodness, my kids loved this dessert. I enjoyed the chocolate creamy combo with the Oreos so much. The texture is like a thick, rich, chocolate whipped cream, with yummy, softened Oreos. What a perfect idea for a fun warm-weather dessert, or perhaps a summer birthday! YUM!

I make something similar: I take a half gallon of vanilla ice cream, a bowl of extra creamy cool whip and a package of Oreo cookies. Let the ice cream get a little soft. Using a mixer, blend the ice cream and cool whip together. Crush Oreo’s and add to ice cream mixture. Pour into 9×13 pan, cover and freeze. You can also crush additional Oreo’s to garnish the top and drizzle chocolate and carmel over that to make a beautiful dessert. This is one of my families favorite desserts especially in the summer.

  4. ~jenn~

I may have to make this just for the fun of it! I make my own Oreos so that’ll keep it even less processed foods and more homemade. Keto doesn’t allow for it in my carb count, but it looks like too much fun to not at least make it.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Oh nice! Thanks Jenn!

    • Margie

Could you please tell us how you make your own Oreos? I have been wanting to do the same. We are always looking to turn our favorites into homemade versions. We live on a farm, raise and grow what we eat other than dairy. I am trying to teach my kids that we can make the things that they love to buy from the store. πŸ™‚

Can you share your recipe with us please?

This looks like such a fun summer treat, I can’t wait to try it! Also Lina, thank you SO much for the cookie sheet pancake post! It has literally been a game changer for me! I have 4 kiddos, and rarely made pancakes, because it was so time consuming! Since that post, they’ve enjoyed pancakes from scratch, twice a week!!! Oh the joy!!! Bless you! πŸ₯žπŸ₯°

  6. Richy

This is great! I always stare at those cakes when I’m at the store, but never want to shell out that much money for a craving where I’ll probably be the only one eating. If I make it myself, I can finally get back into baking and put my springform pan to use.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Yes enjoy Richy! Great use for a springform pan! <3

  7. Lesli

This sounds delicious! I accidentally rated this recipe and didn’t mean to (scrolling on my cell) and I think I only gave it at 3 but it sounds like a 5 star recipe!! I can’t wait to make it!!

  9. dolcedelish

Curious if these can be made “Keto Friendly ” if you remove the oreos and replace powdered sugar with a sugar alternative (splenda-like)

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Yes absolutely -great idea…I’d use powdered Swerve! Yum πŸ˜‹

  10. Julia

Is this KETO friendly ??? Asking for a friend

  11. *Angela-Miles*

I also just bought some lemon Oreos last week, so maybe I will use them instead like u mentioned πŸ€—

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

  12. jes

I’ve seent this with Snickers too. Omg! So yummy

  13. JO

I make an ice cream Oreo dessert too. Crumbled Oreos and melted butter for crust in 9×13 pan, layer of butter pecan ice cream, layer of fudge sauce, layer of cool whip, sprinkle of more crumbled Oreos and melted butter mixture on top, then freeze. It’s been a family favorite for more than 30 yrs! Ugh, makes me feel old.

  14. amyh

I made this week for the contractors working on my house. Nice reward at the end of a hot and humid day. Thanks for the recipe!

  15. Joanne Collett

Back when these types of recipes became popular ice boxes were all folks had they would eventually evolve into a refrigerator run by electric. I’m 78 and I can remember an ice man carrying a block of ice on his shoulder and putting it into my grandmothers Ice box. At times I still forget and call our fridge an ice box completely confusing my grandchildren.

  16. Lisa

Awesome, this could be made gluten free with the gluten free Oreos

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Yes, great idea for a gluten-free swap, Lisa. Enjoy! πŸ’•
