Wondering what to buy for your Halloween candy bowls this year?

We can’t wait to snack on these!

Even if you don’t like sweets, chances are you like to eat a little extra around Halloween, so we thought we’d round up the best Halloween candy worthy of all the trick-or-treating festivities this year.

Hopefully, you’ll have a little left for yourself to enjoy after handing these out later this month… or you can always sample a piece (or 10) from your kiddos’ candy collections. 😉

If you want to win the unspoken competition between you and your neighborhood for “best house to visit while trick-or-treating,” these Halloween treats will have costumed candy enthusiasts lining up at your door.

1. Candy Corn is the most iconic Halloween candy… end of story.

Starting this list off with a controversial statement. 🤣 And don’t worry all my candy corn haters, as we’ll have a Worst Halloween Candy list coming out soon, where this divisive delight is also featured. You’ll have your moment to shine over there — we don’t have any room for negativity on our Best Halloween Candy list. 😂

Whether you like Candy Corn or not, you’ve gotta admit that it is the ultimate Halloween candy. Nothing signifies the onset of spooky season like seeing bags of Candy Corn start appearing on store shelves.

And third, it’s delicious. Despite basically just being colored corn syrup, it somehow still tastes amazing & keeps its distinctive texture, almost as if by magic.

Half of our team loves Candy Corn, and my Hip Teammate, Amber, said this Candy Corn + Peanut mix is her favorite!

2. How do they make Reese’s holiday shapes taste so good!?

Reese's pumpkins

Holiday Reese’s shapes are supposed to be pretty much the same as regular Reese’s Cups, but we’re not buying it. While both are delicious, Reese’s Pumpkins are just so much better than the original.

And it’s not just the pumpkins — the Christmas Trees and Easter Eggs are mysteriously tasty as well. And as our Hip reader, Kelli, pointed out, you can even get Reese’s shaped like Bats and Ghosts! 😍

We don’t know how they do it, but the whole Hip team loves those delectable little shapes.

My Hip teammates, Lina and Liza, also mentioned loving Reese’s Pieces, which are amazing as well. So actually, we could probably change this section to “Reese’s shaped like things other than cups.” 😅

3. Snickers are an all-around Halloween favorite.

Ah, Snickers. How I loved finding you in my childhood candy bag. ❤️ Snickers are always appreciated & we never regret eating one too many on Halloween (hey, it’s a special occasion, after all)!

With rich milk chocolate, crunchy peanuts, and that absolutely iconic nougat filling, Snickers reigns supreme in our Halloween candy hauls.

My Hip teammate, Emily, says the Mini Peanut Butter Snickers are out-of-this-world good IF you can find them. 😉

4. Kit Kats are the best Halloween candies for sharing!

Pumpkin Pie Kit Kats

Did I ever voluntarily share my Halloween candy? No, I didn’t. But if I wanted to, I would pick Kit Kats. Since even the minis come with two deliciously crunchy chocolate wafer pieces, you can either give the other one away (if you’re feeling generous) or keep them all to yourself. We won’t judge. 🤗

Also, don’t get us started on all the flavors! From classic chocolate to pumpkin pie, it’s hard not to love these little treats.

Hip Tip: This idea comes from my Hip teammate, Angela! If you don’t want extra Halloween candy leftover to entice you, buy candies you don’t like so you won’t have to struggle against the temptation. BEST TIP EVER, so stay tuned for our worst Halloween candy list… 😆

5. Give us all the sour gummies this Halloween!

Sour Patch Kids

While everyone’s favorite sour gummy is different, they’re always a well-loved addition to our Halloween candy bowls.

My Hip teammate, Chelsey, said her daughter got these Sour Gummy Boogers that are not only perfect for Halloween, but also pretty tasty. My personal favorites are the Haribo Fizzy Cola Gummies, which thankfully for my waistline, are actually pretty difficult to find. 😆 We also saw the classic Sour Patch Kids mentioned as faves, and those are always a safe bet!

Whichever sour gummy you choose to buy this season, we’ll be super happy to see it show up in our candy bags!

6. Skittles and Starburst are our favorite fruity Halloween Candies!

I never got to eat these when I was younger because my brothers always took them before I had a chance. 🤣 They’re THAT good! These are almost always first-picked in candy bags, and they offer a refreshingly fruity contrast to the often chocolate-heavy candy handouts.

7. We love anything Hershey, but the Crunch bars are the best!

Crunch bars

Hershey candies are always a hit, but something about the Crunch bars is extra satisfying. It’s kind of weird because rice and chocolate don’t sound like they’d go together, but oh they do, and it’s one of our favorite candy combos ever.

8. Baby Ruths are another fave of both the Hip team and readers!

By now, you’ve probably noticed the trend that chocolate is almost always a top pick. But with that delicious combination of roasted peanuts, milk chocolate, nougat, and caramel, it’s hard not to love Baby Ruths a little extra. ❤️

While they’re not quite delicious enough to dethrone Snickers as the most-loved chocolate bar, they’re definitely another universally enjoyed Halloween treat.

9. Take 5 may be the most underrated Reese’s creation.

Reese's Take 5

Have y’all ever had a Take 5 Bar? Because if not, I recommend running to the store ASAP to try these out!

Our Hip reader, Justina, asked “how do people not know about this?!” and I have to agree since Take 5s are, after all, my personal favorite candy bar of all time. Like many chocolate bars, they contain peanuts and caramel, but they up their sweet-and-salty game by adding a whole pretzel in each piece. It’s really the perfect contrast.

10. Smarties are a classic, simple, shareable treat.

Smarties

Who doesn’t have fond memories of unwrapping a pack of Smarties to share with friends and family? These little treats have stood the test of time, and both the Hip team and readers still love them. They’re delightfully tangy, easy to eat, and if you don’t want to finish the whole pack, you can just wrap it back up and save it for later!

We also have some honorable mentions for our favorite Halloween Candy…

Any candy I can take from my nieces or nephews.”

Turns out that our Hip teammate, Stetson’s, favorite candy isn’t actually any candy inparticular–it’s the thrill of the steal. As he put it, “it’s not necessarily about the candy, but more so to get a rise out of them when they make an *OMG face* and say ‘brooooooo!'”

After all, it wouldn’t be Halloween without an older relative raiding your candy bag for the good stuff. 🙃

My Hip teammate, Jen, is sticking with “anything from ChocZero!”

Since we have some Hip team members livin’ the keto lifestyle, some of us will have to skip out on the chocolate this year…or will we?!

Just because you’re not eating sugar doesn’t mean you have to be totally left out of the fun, since ChocZero has some of our fave sugar-free & keto-friendly candies! We’ll just be getting our sugar fix without the actual sugar this year. 😉

I really find it hard to believe that kids would love getting candy corn….gross 🤮

    • Peaches

I love Candy Corn. I add some peanuts to the bag for a sweet and salty treat.

    • Lin

My son loves candy corn, I do not understand it at all, it’s just sugar to me ( and probably the same for most adults!)

  2. Minka

How about some of the fair trade candy that is offered at Aldi’s? I don’t like the thought of buying my kids candy that child labor has helped create. Mars, Nestle, and Hershey’s aren’t committed to ending the practice of ending child labor. (See “Cocoa’s Child Laborers” in the Washington Post)

    • Cal

How about not eating candy that contains high fructose corn syrup, added colors, “natural flavors”…

  3. MsAnnie

Do they individual bags of candy corn? I’ve never seen them, otherwise I never would pass out loose candy in the bags for the kids.

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

I have seen them occasionally, however, I just love having candy corn in the house for me.

  4. Family First

Personally love candy corn and so does my family. To each its own!

    • Kim C

The original Take5 had caramel not peanut butter. They were both terrific! I don’t see the original ones any longer.

  5. SoCalLemon

Honestly, the older I get the more I want to throw up just thinking about all this sugar! My go-to treat is now a Lara Bar, two ingredients with just enough sweetness to satisfy my sweet tooth… and fiber is always nice 🙂 HAHAHA.
