“I put these in one of our rental units and these look fabulous over our white base cabinets (also from IKEA). These have a lovely black marble look and such a nice matte finish, slightly rounded and seamless edge so you don’t see the laminated corner – which always bothers me with this kind of material.
It’s very dense and hard and it has a tendency to chip when cut (we put tape over the cut area and used new blade to keep this at a minimum). However, just take a black sharpie and fill in the chips and immediately wipe off excess. You’re essentially staining the chipped area and you’ll hardly be able to notice. “I purchased and installed this countertop and it was a simple DIY. For the sink, I cut with a jigsaw from behind (as instructed) and cuts came out clean. The finish is a nice natural oil, and it brings out the beauty of the walnut. I always thought these were only cut in pieces to fit IKEA cabinets. They are adjustable to other kinds too? What about a fat island piece? I was saving for years for new countertops and then used that money to fund our adoption, which is way more important, but I have duct tape on my countertops now. A cheaper alternative would be amazing!
Sometimes when people are doing their kitchen remodels, they get rid of all their counter tops etc. n their quartz and marble slabs usually end up being thrown out..so check online, otherwise I know by us in NJ they have a lot of wholesalers who have great pricing on marble and quartz but these IKEA slabs are a great option price wise as well. If you use a contractor, they’ll probably go with a more expensive option, so better to find it yourself imo.
The countertop slabs are standard sizes (just like what you would find available at Home Depot); they just require you to cut to fit, and then come with a trim piece to cover up the cut edge. They do have deeper slabs for islands, though not in every design. The one thing you have to watch out for, especially if you are replacing an existing countertop is thickness; the Ikea countertops may be thicker or thinner than what you currently have, and therefore come up slightly higher or lower on the walls.

I actually used the Karlby walnut counter top for my craft room desk. I paired it with the white drawer system from ikea on each end and a filing cabinet in the center to make one super long desk for my husband and I.

Just a girl and her blog has a lot of information on the ikea kitchen remodel she did in her house. I found it very detailed and helpful
I bought all my cabinets at Ikea and love them. I also bought the stove top and oven and microwave at Ikea. Some pieces were broken and Ikea replaced them. The doors and drawers open and close like magic.
I did use a butcher block counter top, dishwasher and ‘fridge from elsewhere.
The best part about it was that Ikea supplies a guy to do the measurements for free if you purchase from Ikea.
Dumb question but what is a slab? Like how many square feet?
(Not a dumb question 😉 ) For what I understand…a slab is just a general “construction” word that refers to any material being in one solid piece. For instance you can have a granite counter in large tiles that might even look like a single solid piece (a “slab”), but are in pieces, so it isn’t considered to be a “slab” – or you can have a single, solid piece called a slab. A slab can be any size. Hope this helps 🙂
We found the HAMMARP at Ikea Saint Louis, MO for only $89 (reg. $149) the big one for only $119 (reg. $199). We got the priced at $89 and bought 2 sawhorses priced at $15 each. It’s now a great and large solid oak desk! Love it.
I personally would shy away from using veneer butcher block in a kitchen. Ive used solid butcher block in all my rehab houses as well as my own! It is definitely not the most durable material but what I love about it is that you can sand out most imperfections. Once a year I take an orbital sander and take a light layer off. Removes most surface scratches and stains, then throw on a nice coat of oil to waterproof it. You’re not going to be able to sand down a veneer. Lowes carries 4,6,8 and 10ft lengths plus island size. Not a big price difference between those and the ikea so if you have the choice I would spend a little more and get solid wood! Just my 2 cents!

How do you cut a provision for sink and faucet? Will ikea do that or do you need to hire a fabricator?

The Ikea quartz names are the same as Ceasarstone names so it is a established company not an Ikea made item.
