Get your free credit score right at your fingertips with Credit Karma!
Determined to get your finances right in 2023?
Your credit score is a three-digit number that can have a big impact on your life! If you’re planning a large purchase in the near future, like a car or house, knowing your credit score can be extremely helpful when it’s time to apply for a loan.
Generally, the higher your credit score, the more willing a bank will be to loan money to you or offer you a better interest rate. Keeping tabs on your credit history also makes it easier to see if there is any suspicious activity or spending habits that could negatively impact your score.
Is Credit Karma really free?
YES – Credit Karma is truly FREE. There’s no credit card required to use this service, no free trial to cancel, and you will not hurt your credit score by checking it with Credit Karma. 🙌
Just head on over here to sign up for your free account, and you’ll immediately gain access to your Vantage 3.0 credit scores as reported by both the TransUnion and Equifax credit bureaus. Here’s what a couple of my Hip teammates have to say about their experiences with Credit Karma:
I decided to check it out as a quick, easy, and cheap way to check out my credit score to get to the point of buying a house. It helped me keep an eye on my credit as my scores went up (and down sometimes 😂). They gave me tips on which card to pay off first and the steps to take to build my credit, which was super helpful! When it came time to actually apply for financing for a house, I knew where I stood with my credit score. For the most part, Credit Karma was pretty accurate and I would highly recommend it! – Jenna P.
I started using Credit Karma after my divorce and it really helped me get on my feet and know exactly what I needed to do to get me and my kiddos set up for success. I was able to go into the process of buying a home and a new car knowing exactly what I needed to do and what interest rates I would likely be getting during those exciting times. Even a couple of years after making these bigger purchases, I still check my credit probably once a week because they offer great tips to maximize my credit health and it’s peace of mind if I ever need a loan in the future.
I also recently used Credit Karma to apply for two new checking accounts. I had various cash bonus offers and I applied for two, met the criteria they required to get the bonuses, and it paid for a week’s worth of Airbnbs in California for my upcoming trip! The best part is that it cost me zero dollars to do and just a little bit of strategic planning to meet my goals. I definitely wouldn’t have had such an easy time accomplishing this if Credit Karma didn’t make it so simple! – Sara

Reminder – this is not the same as your FICO score. It is an estimate based on one scoring model and may be different from other models.
Yup, not FICO and only uses 2 out of the 3 reporting bureaus. Best free FICO score website is Discover Score Card – https://www.discover.com/free-credit-score/
discover only uses one. experian. so it’s certainly not the best
Discover gives you your FICO credit score, which is the model most lenders use when checking your credit.
For those struggling with credit I was the silly one that bought a book off of a infomercial and let me tell you it truly worked!! It’s called credit secrets. If your up to putting in some work on your credit report it can truly help you save so much money on interest. Be cautious though. Don’t get a ton of credit cards and not be able to pay them off quickly because then everything you save you spend in interest.
I love credit karma! Yes it’s an estimate but both times I’ve received the final credit report (applying for car loans) the score is higher than what credit karma says!
You’re right, Credit Karma is not accurate at all but it’s a good estimate of the ball park of your score ☺️
Some credit cards and banks offer you a monthly credit score snapshot — it’s usually a tab buried somewhere in the member services on their website, once you log into your account. For example, American Express has it, and so does USAA.
Thanks for the USAA info!
You can also dispute items on your credit right from the Credit Karma website.
They are a good choice for doing your taxes also, free and easy. Unless you have a complicated return.
How do I close the credit karma account
Hey Judy! Here’s a help article from their site with the details on how to close your account. Hoping this might be helpful for you! ❤️
