1. Costco members can get free air at Costco Tire Centers.
Costco members are in luck! The Costco Tire Center offers free air for your tires. Instead of using compressed air, Costco uses nitrogen which retains pressure for longer and can help preserve the life of your tires! 🙌
2. Sam’s Club members can fill their tires for free.
One perk about a Sam’s Club membership is that several services from the tire center are of no additional charge to members. These include tire rotations, battery installations, air pressure checks, tread-depth checks, and the inflation or deflation of tires. Visit the Sam’s Club website to find a club near you.

Signs you should check your air pressure:
A very important reason to check your air pressure regularly is safety. Poor air pressure can cause uneven tread on your tires. It also can cause friction which causes overheating and subsequent blowouts. We recommend checking your tire pressure at least once a month.
Take advantage of the free complimentary checkups offered by many of the businesses listed above. It’s also wise to check your PSI levels yourself using a pressure gauge. Check your pressure once per month or after extreme weather changes. If needed, you can even fill your own tires using a portable air compressor like this one from TEROMAS or this one from RYOBI.
A few telltale signs that you need to check your air pressure include:
- Your car wheels make a flapping noise when driving or a squeaking noise when turning

Please don’t wait for a sign that you have low air pressure! Check your tires every month! My husband retired from Michelin and the things he can tell you would make you want to be more responsible! He usually has to add air to at least one tire every month. Buy a tire gauge and check them yourself!!

So I was a little disappointed (or did I miss it) that you had a picture of the Ryobi tire inflator in this article, but didn’t have it has a suggestion to buy from Home Depot. True story…. Just this past summer we were on a road trip from Midwest to SoCal. Tires checked before we left home and all GTG. At zero dark silly in the morning, one tire decided to lose pressure. In remote areas, the air compressors at gas stations either don’t work or simply don’t exist. We eventually got our tire fixed, but lesson learned on our way back home, we bought one of those Ryobi rechargeable tire inflators and now take it on all of our road trips. We just charge the battery once a month. Peace of mind is priceless.

In California, it’s a law that gas stations provide free air/water to customers with purchase of gas. But not all gas stations have air pumps.
