Here’s what our Hip team shared about their Valentine’s Gifting Traditions:
“My hubby and I exchange gifts for Valentine’s Day but it’s never anything too extravagant. I’ve never really been a huge Valentine’s Day person. Having said that, we do usually get each other some sort of candy/treat we like and then something fun like a board game, book, or video game and he usually gets me a bouquet of flowers. Last year he got me a Nightmare Before Christmas paper bouquet which I loved because I can keep it up all year and I didn’t have to worry about them dying.” – Liz
“During our first years of dating, we exchanged small gifts like chocolates or candy. It felt more like gifts just for the sake of giving a Valentine’s Day gift. I do like the idea of putting more thought into a gift to celebrate. I love Liz’s tradition of having something fun incorporated with the gift so I’ll likely go with some cutesy Valentine’s candy from Target and a card or board game for my husband this year. And since Valentine’s Day is on a Friday this year, we plan to treat ourselves to a dinner out. We have a few restaurant gift cards too so all the more reason to celebrate!” – Emily
“I LOVE Valentine’s Day. My husband and I don’t exchange gifts but usually go to dinner. I do decorate and I always get my kids a small treat bag or mini gift and probably always will because I just find it fun.” – Amber
“Before we had our daughter, we’d go out to dinner and celebrate. My husband would send flowers or candy with a card. Once she was born, those early Valentine’s Days with a baby/toddler were a blur, and we probably didn’t do much. As she’s grown, we’ve included her in our celebrations. My husband makes dinner and gets us flowers and candy—nothing extravagant. This year, I’m making my daughter a Valentine’s basket since her school doesn’t do exchanges in 7th grade and we’ll go out to eat as a family. And of course, I’ll decorate…I do for every holiday, big or small because I can’t help myself!” – Jessica
“My husband and I don’t exchange gifts – sometimes cards. We do treats for our daughter, and I send little things to the grown kiddos and all the grandkiddos, too.” – Liza
“We will sometimes exchange gifts but we always go out to eat. Usually a long lunch somewhere fun to celebrate the day. But I always get my kiddos a Day treat. I don’t care if they’re in their 60’s. If I’m still around, they’re getting some Valentine’s goodies.” – Cass
“I think my hubby has missed every single Valentine’s Day that we’ve been together due to his job, so I send him with some sort of surprise note, and the babies and I always do a mini ‘party’ with crafts and all the Valentine’s themed goodies. It’s not a huge holiday in my mind and I expect nothing, but it is the perfect excuse to do all the things with LOVE. This year we are making a heart chain and writing one thing we love about a family member each day until the 14th.” – Chelsey
“My boyfriend gifts me some peace and quiet since his family goes on vacation for Valentine’s Day every year. This year they’re going to Japan. What ends up happening is he gets me gifts while he’s on vacation (this year I asked for matcha and skincare!) and I pay for someone to clean the house/do landscaping so he gets back to a sparkly home. Win-win for both of us” – Madison
Some of our Hip sidekicks don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day at all.
“Never been a fan of Valentine’s Day and we don’t exchange gifts or really celebrate at all over here. When my kids were little, we did the classroom Valentine’s for school, but other than that I don’t get my kids anything for Valentine’s Day either.” – Trish
“My hubby and I do a big fat nothing for Valentine’s Day, and we’re totally good with that. 😆 My husband calls it a Hallmark holiday, and honestly… I kinda agree. 😬 I totally get buying Valentine’s exchange goodies for the kids when they’re in school, but I don’t really see the point in exchanging gifts with my husband. There are so many other important days to celebrate – birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day… the list goes on. Plus, I personally love it when my husband does something sweet on a random day, like bringing me a coffee or filling up my gas tank. That means way more to me than flowers on Valentine’s Day!” – Collin
“We don’t go out of our way to celebrate Valentine’s Day. As Collin said, it feels like a Hallmark holiday that I just feel that it adds to the consumerism that I don’t feel good being a part of. That said, I do always find us doing something special just for the sake of showing love to each other. We will normally cook a nice meal that the kids will love and there may or may not be heart shapes involved.” – Sara
“No gifts and we try to avoid restaurants that day. My husband still gets the kids a candy or small treat. One year he forgot and my daughter was like what the heck, Dad? LOL” – Lina
“When my husband and I got together we decided on no Valentine’s Day, too. He did get me a computer mouse one year but I think he had ordered it and it just happened to arrive on Valentine’s Day.” – Elizabeth
Happy Valentine’s Day from all of us at Hip2Save, we love and appreciate you all. ❤️
My husband and I don’t do gifts, he had bought me roses on Valentines day several times but usually we just have a fun heart themed dinner at home with our daughters and then on a different day, my husband and I will go out for dinner…not on Valentines day…it’s too peopley. LOL
I loved fresh flowers, but my husband knows that I’m not a fan of spending it on something that I’ll throw away after a few days. So, in the last few years he’s been getting me some knockout rose bush and lilies that I can plant later on. He also adds a box of chocolate or a gift card. I usually get our kids something when they are little. now that they are in High School, we stopped at the ice cream shop before going home to celebrate valentines day.
We don’t exchange with each other, but we always get something for our kids.
We didn’t really exchange gifts for Valentines Day. I would usually get him a small candy heart with chocolates. He would buy some flowers sometimes. We would usually go out to eat together to enjoy the day kid free.
This is the first time my partner and I are living long-distance. I specifically mentioned for us to focus on our goals and save money this year. However, I always give a cute gift to my parents and brothers (even though we’re all in our 30s). I’ve done so ever since I was young, so it’s tradition for me.
We used to do gifts but since we’ve had kids I think they get all the gifts! But my favorite gift was flowers from Farmgirl flowers! They were beautiful…lasted forever and the inspiration behind starting a flower farm on our property! We now sell farm fresh flower bouquets from our roadside stand the Honey Willow Homestead!
Not really, we try and get something little for each other but we definitely don’t go over the top!
Not really. We go out to eat but we do that all the time.
We actually do a family Valentine’s Day. My husband and I generally make cards for each other and the kids and we’ll do candy and little gifts. My favorite part is the hand made cards 🙂
No, we don’t exchange gifts. I will usually do something for the kids-like candy.
My husband always buys me roses. We’ve been married 38 years and he has never missed a Valentines Day bouquet. I get him a nice card and I make us a nice romantic meal. We have been through a lot together, this is a small way once a year to let each other know how much we appreciate each other. My Father in law has just been diagnosed with melanoma,
he has so far refused any treatments or tests. He is our last parent alive. I enjoy Valentines day, we keep it simple and it let’s us acknowledge how much we mean to each other. Life is short, full of blessings, and also sadness. Enjoy the good, forgive the bad, pray and heal from the sad. ❤
My favorite gift I gave my husband for Valentine’s Day was a bouquet of bacon roses
(I attached them to fake rose stems)
it made me so happy to give a gift that was both pretty and yummy! ♥️
My husband and I sometimes do if there’s something in particular we want but typically no. He’s not a romantic and doesn’t like the holiday 😞 I usually give gifts to my daughters though just to make the day special for them.
Husband and I have been married 31 years. We do not exchange Valentine’s gifts but might do a small thoughtful token like chocolate or a bundtlet or go out together for a sweet treat. Happy Valentine’s Day to you all! <3
My husband is much more romantic than I am and when we first married he would buy me roses, chocolates, jewelry. I grew up very pragmatically so we’ve agreed to dinner out (or in – now that we have a young toddler who doesn’t go anywhere for long!). It’s a nice treat to not cook and also put money toward time together. All in all I’m a very lucky, blessed gal and to have my two guys (husband and son) is all that matters.
We always do gifts for the kids and my husband will toss me a bag of chocolate but we don’t stress over it 😊
We do not exchange gifts.
My husband and I do not exchange gifts. If we want something, we just buy it!,
My family does not necessarily plan for valentine’s day. We just kind of do things on the fly. Sometimes, we go out to eat and take advantage of the restaurant offers that are especially for that day. When our kids were little, we would prepare valentines with them for classroom exchange and help them put together awesome card boxes. Now that they are older, I just occasionally buy treats for the family for or after valentine’s. It’s somewhat low key for us.
We usually exchange cards, and lately, for the past few years, we have a date weekend at Epcot during their Festival of Arts.
No.
My husband & I exchange cards & candy. Valentines Day is too close to Christmas & our birthdays.
I don’t really celebrate Valentine’s Day. And the one time I was close to getting a gift…I’m just glad the relationship ended before the day. I would’ve felt guilty about accepting a gift from someone I knew I wasn’t gonna be with for long.
My husband & I LOVE going out & getting Valentine balloons for our kids! The tradition started when they were little bitty & loved looking at the helium balloons at various stores. We decided that we should get them those for Valentine’s Day one year & the tradition was born. My husband & I spend time together by going out to different stores to find fun shapes and/or those that are relevant to what they kids are “in to” each year. Astronauts, dinosuars, art, kitties, pizza, etc. We take them out to dinner (their choice) & “surprise” them with the balloons afterward.
Sometimes 🙂 I love a great homemade card and any romantic gesture is always appreciated 😉 My husband and I are almost empty nesters now and I feel like we are starting to date again!!
My husband and don’t usually do much for Valentines because he’s a pilot and we never know if he’s going to be around that day. We just try to enjoy the time we have when we are together.
I usually don’t exchange gifts with my husband, but we still get our adult kids something.
For each of my children (and husband) I write a heart sticky note with a quality I admire about them and place it on their door each day (beginning Feb. 1st). Then on Valentine’s Day I leave a card, some candy/treat, and small gift. They love these notes and leave them on their doors even after the holiday (sometimes all year).
I always felt Valentines was more a kid holiday. I usually give my daughter candy and a stuffed animal. As well as buy the class Valentines and candy.
YES!! We give each other fishing licenses which is a hobby we love to do after 41 years together!!
We don’t don’t do gifts for each other but we usually buy a box of chocolates for our two young daughters, and have a fun dinner at home.
I usually cook my husbands favorite meal along with a baked dessert which is different every year. I think I may try the poptarts this year.
We do not exchange gifts for valentines day. Often we will do dinner or some kind of date but no gifts involved. I like to get my kiddos a little something.
We sometimes do gifts for eachother and always get something for our boys. And we always do goodie bags for school classes and get chocolates or a gift card for the teacher.
My hubby and I usually just pick up a heart shaped pizza from Papa Murphy’s and I make a special dessert. We have an agreement not to buy each other any gifts.
My husband and I don’t really celebrate Valentine’s Day yearly as we feel everyday should be like a Valentine’s Day to love, honor and cherish each other. We sometimes cook something delicious, eat out or just take a day to relax and reminisce the first time we met and fell in love!
Nothing exchanged between my husband and I except for a kiss. We get our adult child flowers, candy, and a card.
No to my spouse, but yes for my child.
We do gifts for the kids and cards for adults. 🙂 My daughter is a freshman in college so she will get a care package. 😉
I am in a new relationship this year and he bought me the Lego Love sculpture and our couples goal is to visit a few around the country this year
We have 2 bdays in our family that are very close to Valentines day so its kinda forgotten about. But honestly I think we are both OK with that.
Usually we will get dressed up and go to a nice restaurant for dinner. I’ll make him a card and make a basket of his favorite snacks and he usually gets me a Valentine LEGO set.
Not likely that I would. We don’t normally give gifts for Valentine’s Day, but when we do they are typically handmade gifts rather than purchases.
We no longer celebrate or exchange gifts on Valentine’s Day. We have been married 43 years and this holiday sizzled out over 20 years ago. I do remember my hubby bought me a box of yummy chocolates from Costco years ago for Valentines & I ate the whole darn box! I told him to never do that again!!!
We exchange small gifts. He usually gets me flowers and a card and I get him a card and a gift card for lunchs.
We have been married 34 years and always celebrate Valentine’s Day. My spouse was just in the hospital because he was dizzy and his heart was slow so it was very scary. So yes we would love to go out but since he is a handicapped Veteran who served this country 39 and half years and is now with a walker I know it will be difficult for him to do all that since he just turned 84. So There is a restaurant having a scrumptious romantic expensive dinner and I will try to recreate some of it for him at home and pretend I am really enjoying doing all that for Valentine’s Day. But I want to make it special for him and romantic as he is a very romantic man. So this year I bought him asome books and word searches from Barnes and Noble free shipping and a tower of gold boxes from Hickory Farms was 85.00 on sale for 29 something all gifts with free shipping and I picked out a cute dress to wear from him to me. He has started painting. We used to buy each other cards but now we make each other cards and we both treasure them. Hope I win. The doctor wants him to stay hydrated and the gift would be perfect that you are giving away
Mama to nine here.. I use to do a lot of things for Valentine’s Day at home and for school class parties, unfortunately the economy has prevented me from participating in my traditions for a few years now. 🙁
My husband and I generally do something small for Valentine’s Day. Gifts include cards or small hearts of candy or flowers. We avoid eating out after finding that most restaurants are overcrowded that day.
We usually do something small for each other. But I guess the best gift would be my engagement ring when he proposed 21 years ago.
Aww, that’s so special, Jenni! 💍❤️ Hard to top a gift like that!
Currently pregnant w/first (and most likely only) child. This year my baby boy will be my valentine❤️ I am buying us our 1st mommy and me matching outfit to wear for Valentine’s Day next year!
Congratulations on the newest little member of the family, Jae. ❤️ Mommy & me outfits for next year sound special!
