What about the Capsules?
Purchasing a Nespresso machine from the OrignalLine or the VertuoLine will determine the size and type of capsule or pod that you must purchase for your machine. The OriginalLine uses the smaller capsules whereas the newer VertuoLine uses the larger, pricier capsules, yielding in a bigger cup of coffee.
Nespresso’s capsules cost quite a bit more than K-Cups (as much as $1.35/serving for the VertuoLine pods), but they’re still cheaper than going to a coffee shop. Depending on the machine you buy, you can even get the new Starbucks by Nespresso capsules for as low as $0.72 per serving.
One of the best places to save on Nespresso capsules is on Amazon, but you can also find them at Bed Bath & Beyond, Target, and other retailers. You can also purchase compatible pods like Gourmesso, Bestpresso, Peet’s, and others. Or, save money by using reusable capsules, like the SealPod, that allows you to fill it with your favorite coffee.
Can Nespresso capsules be recycled?
Yes! ALL Nespresso capsules are made from aluminum and can be recycled. Just bring your used capsules to any one of their collection points, drop them off at your nearest Nespresso store or waste collection center, or fill your recycling bag with used capsules and give it to the post person when they next deliver your order. I got the Breville Nespresso Vertuo for Christmas and love it! Having a simple one-button pod-based espresso maker is a plus for me. My machine is so easy to use! The results I get from the Nespresso is a super frothy and creamy cup of Joe – similar to a coffee shop Americano espresso drink that I like to order. You can take things even further with the heated frother my machine came with to make lattes, or just add a bit of cream…and then it’s like, Starbuck’s who?!
Even though the pods are pricey, I feel like I am spending much less than at a coffee shop. In fact, I haven’t been to Starbucks since I started using my Nespresso! I’m basically obsessed with my Nespresso, with how easy it is to operate, and the frothy coffee goodness it puts out! I only drink 1 or 2 cups a day – but I look forward to it so much now! -Lina

You may not like this answer to who wins the battle between Nespresso vs Keurig, but it really depends on your preference and coffee needs. Keurig’s single-serve coffee makers offer a huge variety of beverages to choose from while Nespresso’s machines make barista-quality coffees that are rich and frothy.
If you’re looking to take your coffee to the next level and don’t necessarily have a coffee budget or care if your coffee is always piping hot, a Nespresso may be for you!

I agree with your opinion. Nespresso vs. Keurig depends on what you are replacing. I’ve owned both and both are great products. If you prefer brewed coffee or drink a lot of coffee, stick with the coffee pot or try the Keurig. If you prefer espresso/cappuccino/latte drinks, go with the Nespresso. If you are buying these drinks regularly at a coffee shop, stop what you are doing and buy the Nespresso machine right now. I have owned the Citiz with separate milk frother for over four years and highly recommended this set up. I have used the machine daily without fail, but have recently replaced the frother because the non-stick coating began to come off (after years of daily use).

I completely agree!! I have both, and think it depends on what you like best. For me, my Nespresso seems like more of an indulgence and I mainly use it on the weekends when I have time to sit down & savor my coffee. If you like to grab a cup & go or don’t care as much about the type of coffee, the Keurig rocks!
I also completely agree. I have two Nespresso machines- an older Pixie and the KitchenAid one (both OriginalLine), we have a Keurig at work, a French press at home, and a conventional coffee maker at home also. I like them all! Just for different purposes. If I could only have one, I would say Nespresso, then ask to be buried with it. 🤣 I prefer it over Starbucks lattes to be honest.

I own both and the quality and flavor of Nespresso coffee is far superior to Keurig no matter what KCup you buy. That said, I still use both mainly because of the cost savings of the KCups. But if I want a really good tasting coffee or latte I use my Nespresso.

We have had both and while Keurig is by far the cheapest, Nespresso’s coffee is more of an experience. One issue with Nespresso is if you own (like I do) VertuoLine. I haven’t been able to find compatible pods for them. While, as noted above, compatible pods for OriginalLine are easy to find – it is not the same for VertuoLine. Does anyone know where one can find compatible pod for VertuoLine?
VertuoLine pods are exclusive through Nespresso.
No doubt the Virtuo line is the best!!! I keep waiting for someone to copy it or for it to go cheaper. It’s about $1 per pod now😞

Yeah I wish that too. I tend to wait to buy any until they do the buy 8 get 2 sleeves free so it reduces the price to ~$.80 a cup. I also keep an eye on marketplace for people who are selling them.

In my experience, I agree with the comments, so if the quality is in the coffee itself. Keurig should be reading this. It sounds like they could be selling a better coffee grain. I wonder if Keurig is listening?
You can use the reusable pod and put whatever coffee you like in them. This is cheaper than buying the pods.
I have used Keurig in the past and found it way too watery for my taste. Drip coffee just doesn’t do it for me anymore once I tried Nespresso I was a goner. I now own both the Original line and VertuoLine from Nespresso. If you like espressos stick with Original Line. If you want a nice big cup of coffee with lots of frothy foam goodness – go with the Vertuoline. Prices vary by pod, but like another reviewer mentioned – it’s much cheaper than going to Starbucks. I actually find myself disappointed these days when I try to get a Starbucks. Nothing beats a large mug of frothy coffee (in my opinion). I really love the Vanizio (Vanilla) and the Caramelizio (Caramel). (They also have hazelnut and other coffee selections) So good with cream and sugar. It’s truly an indulgent cup of coffee! I love the easy recycling option with Nespresso also. You pop all the used capsules in a bag that Nespresso supplies you for free with a free UPS label on it. You can have UPS pick it up at your home or drop it off at a nearby UPS location. Nespresso recycles the pods from there.

Caramel is my FAVORITE, and yes, I do prefer Nespresso over Starbucks! A yummy creamy Nespresso latte is always what I get, no matter when or where I make it.
We have a Keurig but finally ditched it at our vacation house and now have a Jura Impressa at home because it will pay for itself in not having to buy coffee pods. The coffee is far superior to any other coffee machine because we start with coffee beans which are ground for every cup. The machine requires almost no maintenance and each cup is ready with just the touch of a button.
I agree with the Jura. While it is an investment it is only a little more than the most expensive machine on this list. We were able to get one from Bed Bath and Beyond for $550 after finding it on clearance, coupons and cash back. We chose it after a lot of research while comparing it to a nespresso and realized that most Jura’s last 10+ years. Once we factored in the cost of the nespresso pods the Jura paid for itself in under a year from the savings of not buying the pods.
If you have a breakdown it can be sent to Jura to be refurbished for $230 and it comes back just like new.
I agree that Keurig coffee is weak no matter which brand of pods you buy. If you are used to Starbucks, Nespresso is a step up. Also, if you are travelling to Europe, might be worthwhile to buy Nespresso capsules there as it is much cheaper.
I’ve owned both and there really is no comparison. Nespresso is SO much better! Yes the pods are more expensive than the Keurig pods but I was going to the coffee shop every morning instead of using my Keurig so it’s saving me money in that aspect 😅

We have the Nespresso Pixie and love it. They had it on sale on amazon and the we ended up getting it at the Nespresso store where they price matched it.
We bought the Nespresso inissia espresso machine with aeroccino milk frother first. We have had it for years with no problems whatsoever. However, I missed having a huge mug of coffee and liked that the vertuoplus could do that. I bought myself the “Breville BNV420WHT1BUC1 VertuoPlus Coffee and Espresso Machine, White” in December and I can’t recommend it enough! It makes a frothy, fabulous huge mug of coffee/espresso. I had a Pixie first and loved it, have never had any issues. I got a KitchenAid one next, and it is beautiful, but I can’t say I think the coffee taste is much different. I have only stayed away from the Latissima because it looked kinda hard to clean. I can quickly clean my frothers, and prefer them being separate.
We switched from Keurig to Nespresso about 3 years ago. It’s amazing and I love that the pods are easily recyclable. The machine is small and compact and very easy to clean compared to our Keurig. I can even bring it with on vacation! We might switch to a nicer espresso machine later on (former barista here) but for now, this is perfect!
Nespresso is definitely a lot better than Keurig K-cups. No competition. Coffee tastes better, smoother and fresher. Own both but Nespresso is expensive so we don’t use it often.

Ok I hate to be the coffee police but this article is very misleading. Comparing an espresso maker to a drip coffee maker is like comparing running shoes to tennis shoes – yeah they are both part of the sneaker family but they are not the same shoe. If you like drip get the keurig but if you like espresso then get the Nespresso but don’t confuse the two. They prepare the coffee two entirely different ways using two entirely different grinds. This style does people a disservice by not explaining that they are two different types of coffee preparation that serves two different purposes. Espresso by design is meant to be a heck of a lot stronger – hence why a real espresso cup is smaller than a regular coffee cup. That’s why places like Starbucks have 2 different sets of machines. BTW any coffee or espresso prepared the “Americano” way at the fancy coffee shop just means less coffee & “add water”.

Up until a few weeks ago I was totally team Nespresso original line. However, after calculating the cost of pods, it made sense to buy a super automatic espresso machine. Saeco Incanto Plus has been an amazing machine. My espresso drinks are amazing.
That is exactly why we went to a Jura Impressa. It is so much cheaper to make coffee and it is the best coffee we have ever had. The Jura makes regular coffee plus espresso.
Nespresso original !!! lots of cheaper pods to choose from, and espresso is amazing! Latte or cappuccino, whatever you want you can make with this little machine.
Keurig is too blah for me, but like I said I love espresso or latte. Trader joes pods are great 3.99 for 10. Recently got Starbucks columbia pods on sale and t hey are great! Sure enough original nespresso pods are the best….
forgot to say that i do take my nespresso original line machine with me everywhere we go on vacation as well! So much cheaper than buying Starbucks on the go…

I completely agree with above posts that it’s just a matter of espresso vs. American coffee. Just wanted to let you know that Nespresso has a great customer support. Our machine broke, they had us ship it to them free and gave us a temporary machine to use while fixing ours (the machine was out of warranty). Capsules are indeed expensive, so go for the original line. We buy cheap stuff from Amazon, sometimes they have a good sale on Lavazza ($0.25 per pod). Only big concern that I have and I have been considering perhaps Breville is the fact that the pods are aluminum and all the health concerns that go along with using aluminum that comes in contact with a high heat beverage. But until then it’s Nespresso in the morning and Keirug in the afternoon for me. And YES, I love coffee…
Personally, I am more concerned with the high heat through plastic leaching and frankly – the mold from Keurig! I personally had mold in my large Keurig machine (not the mini) and tossed the darn thing. You could get a “regular” coffee maker with unbleached filters and then maybe your water isn’t healthy. You could do everything seemingly right and still get cancer or other health issues. I used to be concerned about just about everything and then I just decided to have a moderate approach.
Coffee (Brew, Pour-Over, Keurig etc.), Tea, Espresso (Traditional, Nespresso, etc.), or Nothing.

I think I found the best & cheapest alternative to the $6/day habit of getting macchiatos from sbux. I get my favorite ground coffee (which I never really drank much because i liked sbux so much better), & although not cheap at $10 a bag, still much cheaper than $6/day
I grind the beans to put in the custom my kcup pod, brew it, add some sugar & cream, & then the magical part…put Redi Whip’s barista Sweet Foam on top. It’s sold in a can like whipped cream, & can be found near the refrigerated creamers or the cans of whipped cream. Not all stores carry it so check manufacturer website to locate stores that carry it. THIS is the product that got me saying starbucks who? Literally. My bf calls me sometimes saying I’m going by sbux want anything? And not always, but often, my answer is no thx, I’d rather have my coffee at home. That foam turns regular brewed coffee in to a magical delicious drink just like you’d get from sbux. I love it!
