“Roasting leftover Peeps over an open fire is just morbid enough to get my kids attention and absolutely delicious! I don’t like Peeps unless they are roasted over a campfire 🔥.
The outside gets a nice caramelized flavor like crème brûlée and the inside is gooey and delicious. I don’t enjoy regular Peeps. Makes me think of eating a marshmallow with beach sand on it, lol.
This is also a great quarantine activity. We have also been experimenting with other Easter candies over a open fire such as Starbursts and chocolate covered marshmallow eggs. The possibilities are endless!”

We are banned from burning fires due to covid 19 in my city! But good idea!
Really? Why would they ban that. We have a gas fire pit. We just used it the other night. We had a group of 8. We have 6 kids. We do live on 4 acres though.
Susan, there is evidence that exposure to air pollution increases susceptibility to respiratory viral infections by decreasing immune function. It also puts firefighters at risk needlessly if there is an issue as a result of something like a fire pit that they need to put out.
Jennifer stated why but I think a fire pit in the country would be acceptable. There’s less people and there’s a controlled area for it. I live in a city (I’m a city girl and love it 😍) so it would impact more people if I had a fire going.
Our county has a burn ban, we are in rural WA.
We have a burn ban in Wisconsin. It’s more that both dnr workers aren’t working and they dont want firefighters having to divert resources if you’re fire gets out of control.
Maybe you can get your hands on some sterno cans and use the flame to roast marshmallows? That’s how we roasted marshmallows inNYC Girl Scouts troop. Girls loved I!

I use to them to make rice krispie treats! The sugar adds a little crunch that’s the best.

Hubby did the Easter shopping this year and it was a total failure. Lol. No peeps, no Cadbury eggs of any variety, no reeses eggs, no Robin eggs, no grass, no chocolate bunnies and no stuffie for our youngest(first Easter) . The man literally came home with three small stuffed rabbits… Nothing else. 😅🙄
They make great smores in a pinch! We did it one year when we couldn’t let a good fire go to waste!
Not here, there is a burn ban and backyard fire pits are included in the ban plus it’s being enforced:(
PLEASE be careful when doing this! I have tried this (I love peeps!), but the sugar did melt over like glass and is VERY hot. The sugar does not cool very quickly and you or the kiddos may burn lips and tongues!!
I was skeptical when first introduced to this practice years ago but am a huge convert. I do find it better to use stale peeps for some reason. And if unable to roast over an open fire, my husband realized a butane torch (as used for caramelizing creme brulee) works beautifully- if you have one. So we roast right in the kitchen when I need a fix.
Stale peeps, we use those too! Never thought about a torch. Thanks for the idea.
The long fireplace matches are great for toasting marshmallows without a fire pit. If you have a gas burner that works too.
Have you ever tried dehydrating peeps or even plain marshmallows? Cut them up so that there is an exposed surface on each piece, they take about a day to dry completely but so worth it! They become crunchy like a french meringue, oh so good.
Don’t do it! We did this when my children were little and I still have a scar on my foot from where the sugar was so hot that it dripped off the peep and landed on my foot and burned a hole almost to the bones of my foot. Fifteen years later it still looks like a cigar burn. Regular marshmallows don’t have the sugar coating that can become so hot and dripping like caramel.
