Here’s what our Hip team shared about their Spring Break Traditions:

“Spring Break trips have always been about making memories for us—choosing experiences over things. We love exploring new places together, and this year was extra special. It was my daughter’s last Spring Break at home, so when we asked where she wanted to go, she said Italy… and we made it happen.

I can’t even put into words how much this trip meant. Watching her take it all in, knowing this season of life is shifting, hit me in ways I didn’t expect. I’m beyond grateful we had this time together, fully present, away from work, away from distractions—just us, soaking it all in.

I shared our Italy adventures on Instagram stories here—it’s a trip I’ll hold close forever. ❤️” – Collin

“Our family typically goes on a big Spring break trip because it usually lands right around our anniversary/birthdays. We plan somewhere new to go every year, but this year we’ve decided to stay home and plan fun and affordable things to do after work! My kiddos are on Spring Break this week and we’ve got plans pretty much every day. We are going hiking/geocaching at a state park, heading to a nearby waterpark, Dave & Buster’s for 50% off games, bike riding, getting pizza and ice cream downtown, and a beach night! 🏖️ – Liz

“We travel for spring break since it’s usually around our birthdays/anniversaries. We used to go to an Orlando resort every year so I could park myself in their lazy river in a floaty tube and eat fries all day but then everyone else found out about it and it just got way too crowded for us. So we discovered some really nice, yet still affordable villas with private pools in Orlando and it’s the best thing ever. Our villa also had a movie theater, pool table, and game room. Each one has a different theme, so it’s super fun if you’re staying with littles. Orlando is our go-to because there’s just so much to do but we try to plan our vacays before the spring break craziness hits and all the high school and college kiddos hit the beaches/theme parks. This year we had to settle for a staycation since the hubs is healing from an injury but the weather was wonderful and we found plenty to do.” – Cass

“We always go somewhere during my son’s spring break and in years past we have combined our vacation with wherever my husband had to go for travel during that week for work. We went to really exciting places like Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, New Orleans, and more. Our go-to place is Orlando, as my husband’s aunt lives a half hour away so we can usually stay with her. 🙌🏼 This year we’re going to Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure/Volcano Bay and staying on property. Later this summer we will do our yearly trip to Door County, WI – we started that during COVID because it’s like an off-grid adventure and we love it.” – Denise

Some of our Hip sidekicks don’t get a chance to celebrate Spring Break at all.

“We don’t typically do much for spring break. We sometimes would try and find some local things to do here and there, but nothing crazy.” – Melinda

“We don’t do a spring break trip, since my kids only have had a long weekend or two off from school in the spring. It usually lands around my son’s birthday and we find fun things to do in the area or plan a quick day trip to a large mall or fun event. We save our vacation trip planning for the summer. ❤️ – Amber

“When our kids were younger we did spring break trips, but as older kids have jobs and sports and different schedules spring breaks are harder. Prices get expensive too right now for everything. Plus, in Phoenix, we usually have amazing weather right now so it’s hard to want to go anywhere else. We sometimes do a weekend staycation or at the very least catch a spring training baseball game like we did this weekend, when my oldest was home! We’re excited to plan a Florida Keys family vacation for June though!” – Lina

“Our kiddos here don’t really get a spring break – nothing more than a couple of 4-day weekends throughout March/April but that’s it. With so many family birthdays and sports this time of year, we are too busy to navigate a Spring break trip. Summer starts at the end of May though so we look forward to a summer trip when they’re home.” – Sara

“The school does get a week off in April, but we don’t usually do a Spring Break trip here. if anything, just a quick weekend trip somewhere local-ish for shopping. Otherwise, we mostly use that week for projects around the house/outside.

We get three weeks of vacation in September & October, so we tend to take our “Spring Break” trip then. The weather is better, less people have those weeks off so crowds are less of an issue, and it’s kind of like a last hurrah before the weather gets yucky and we stop traveling as much.” – Liza

We do not typically take a Spring Break trip since I have one kiddo in college and the other in high school so their schedules do not align. We always find something fun to do together as a family every chance we get.

  2. sunshine0826

We are traveling to Kentucky to see my parents for a few days.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Awesome! Hope you have a wonderful trip! ❤️❤️

  3. Dee

We used to take the kids to the beach during spring break. Now we are going with our adult children on a cruise. It’s relaxing, no one has to cook and we get to see several beaches. Fun all around.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

The beach + no cooking sounds like a great vacation for sure! Hope you have the BEST time! Enjoy and thanks for sharing about your spring break plans, Dee! 🏖️

  4. rhodyred

We have family that comes to see us on spring break.

  5. Chrissy Clauser

Since Covid, we have been taking a spring break every year with the kids. I was sick of sitting home and decided life is too short, can change in an instant, and the family vacations will be harder and harder as the kids get older, get jobs, college, etc. We usually go to the beach (FL), because we live in the midwest and it’s cold. But this time we are going to Colorado because we’ve never been there 🙂

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Such a great idea to travel to a new place! Have a great time in Colorado! 😍

  6. Traci Craft

For the past couple spring breaks, we have loved taking our crew to Wolf Creek in southern CO to ski! That location has tons of snow, but no resort, so the cost is considerably lower than other ski spots. Very family-oriented, and a wonderful staff! This year my kids will learn to snowboard!

  7. Snewengland

We usually travel for a few days during Spring Break. We love to go to either Maine or NYC, which are each just a 3-4 hour drive for us! Then we stay home and relax for the other half of the break. It’s the best of both worlds!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

I love the idea of traveling for a bit and then relaxing at home! 🙌❤️ Thanks for taking a moment to comment!

  8. Amy Brown

Yes, taking a spring break trip to Florida and headed by boat to the Keys. The bag would be a perfect travel accessory!

  9. Diana

Our go to spots for spring break are visiting National Parks. We have discovered some really great places. Always plenty to do and see with hiking trails and fun souvenirs.

  10. Suzanne H

We usually travel for Spring Break but we tend to go somewhere different each time! This year we are headed to Boston so “the baby” can go check out colleges (don’t mind me over here with my Mama heart breaking…). LOL Seriously, we are looking forward to the trip – all 3 of our boys are going and we are going to do fun stuff in addition to college tours!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Aww, HUGS to you!❤️❤️ So exciting that you can make a family trip of checking out colleges!

  11. Amy

When the kids were little we would stay at a local hotel that had a pool. We had friends in similar financial situations, so there was always a group of us.

  12. Cindy

We used to go on cruises when the kids were young. We haven’t gone on a Spring Break trip in over 5 years.

  13. Barb

We are taking a spring trip to Washington DC to see the cherry blossoms, can’t wait, have been wanting to do this for years

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Great trip idea, Barb! My parents plan to do that soon too! 🌸

  14. Miranda

We just went on spring break last week with my daughter who is a freshman at University of Minnesota. We went to Orlando and stayed at Margaritaville resort. Super fun place to stay with nice pools! Of course had to do Universal Studios for a day

First time taking my son on a spring break vacation. I usually find a camp for him and just work. We are going on a cruise to the Bahamas and looking forward to it!

  16. Dale LaBelle

We usually take a short trip somewhere drivable. This year we’re visiting southern IL to hike and paddle. Some years we visit family in the southeast.

  17. Diane

I usually don’t since I watch my g-granddaughter during spring break, but if I did I would take a small carry on to travel

  18. amy

We usually travel for spring break. One of our favorite destination is visiting different Hawaiian islands. Kauai would be personal recommendation. It’s warm, great beaches, incredible outdoor activities, and good food. Also, usually it doesn’t have a large spring break crowds.

  19. Becky

Spring Break time is usually busy with softball and family commitments, so we do a Winter Break escape instead! This year, my daughter and I went to Disneyland. It was originally just the two of us, but when my sister and mom caught wind of the plan, they joined in. It was a multi-generational Girls’ Trip to CA! We’re going to start making it a tradition!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

What a fun trip tradition! Love that, Becky! ❤️❤️

  20. Elizabeth Cole

I am meeting my college student daughter during spring break. We are going to chill out at her apartment and just catch up. It’s hard because she lives in another state for school and I miss her so much!

  21. stac129

Our schools seemed to change every year if they had a 4 day weekend for Spring Break or an actual week. So, ours were always stay-cations. A big tent in the small back yard provided hours of fun for them and time for us to do spring yard clean up. Bonus: getting kids to pick up sticks for use of S’mores later was a plus! 😃

  22. Jodi Williams Knaak

We went in a Mexican riviera cruise!

  23. Jess

We are on spring break this week. On Monday we went to the Chattanooga zoo which was fun with 4 kids. But the highlight of our day was the side trip we took on the way back to the little Debbie park. It was so fun and we got lots of good pics.

  24. Laura

With 4 kiddos we usually stay home or try to take a fun day trip, but we are driving to Florida this year to visit grandparents! We are so excited for the warmer weather and the kids can’t wait for a big trip for Spring Break!

  25. Kerry

our family does not plan a formal spring break trip. Usually we take a trip to a local museum. Try to get a hike in and attend our local recreation center special events.

  26. Natasha Hall

We are headed to Disney this year for spring break. We almost always take a trip but last year I had a bile drainage bag and didn’t feel like going anywhere. So we are determined to make this year extra fun!

  27. Argieree

No, I didn’t take a trip over Spring Break but I did buy and move into my first house!!!

  28. Amanda W

We do not take a spring break trip becuase our kids have different spring breaks. So we usually have a staycation and relax a few days around the house.

  29. Hayley Peebles

We’re headed to Branson this year from Wisconsin with our two boys! Our school only does a spring break every other year so we are excited to getaway on our first road trip. While we would’ve loved to get to the beach, driving 11 hours was going to be enough of a drive for our first road trip as a family. We can’t wait!

  30. Jill

We always try to go somewhere warmer for Spring Break. We are sick and tired of the cold and snow in MI. Time to head to the beach!

  31. Zacki

We don’t normally take trips over spring break but that is about to change.

  32. Ms. Jen

Instead of taking a spring break trip, my colleagues and I challenged ourselves to walk for an hour every day together. We increased our activity level, enjoyed the fresh air and sunshine, and got to catch up with one another. The perfect recipe to self care and socialization!

  33. Camille

When our kids were young, we went to baseball and softball tournaments at Spring Break. Now the grandkids come to us for a Spring Break since we live close to Lake Tahoe. Lots of local fun spent outside and great family time spent at home. Sometimes they can even still ski and snowboard in the Spring!

  34. Missy

no long trips due to working in hospital. Hard to get off all week.

  35. cowsarefunny79

We usually don’t get to take a vacation in the spring, it’s usually fall. We just started marking things off our bucket list. I want to go to Glacier National Park & see all the National Parks in Utah. They look so awesome!

  36. Raluca Berger

We dont have any plans this year since we dont know what the economy system it would look like and its better to same a bit just in case. Maybe next year.
    Thank you

  37. Brittany

We live in Texas. We spent the day at the Houston Rodeo with our girls and then we will be taking a one day mini trip to Gruene Hall and will stay one night as it is a short, few hours drive from where we are at. Our girls are all pretty young right now. When the youngest is a few years older we probably will take more of an actual vacation.

  38. Elizabeth M.

We’ve never done a spring break trip. It just wasn’t affordable for us but we do local things and save our trips to see family.

  39. Becca E

We used to take our kids on cruises for spring break and always had so much fun. This year we are waiting to go to Orlando until May because our oldest works for “The Mouse” and this is too busy of a time to take off. She is loving making magical memories for all that are visiting the parks for their spring break.

  40. Connie

Every year before farm season starts!

  41. ab82

Depends on the year as to whether or not we take a trip

  42. Emily Blackburn

No spring break for us this year :-(. Our daughters attend two different school districts and have opposite weeks. We are hoping to get away over Memorial Day weekend to our favorite place, Disney!

  43. Jo

We are headed to the Outer Banks and utilizing free or reduced fee passes for homeschool students for area museums and aquariums! We are camping for about $25/night right off of the beach!

  44. Jodie H

Yes, we wait for spring break from first day of school September usually head down to Cali, although this time will likely be up to Canada.

  45. Brianna McDonald

We used to take trips while kid was in school, now that she is in college and working we were not able to. We are planning a end of school year cruise though so looking forward to that.

  46. dsquared95

It depends on what is happening. This year we have other expenditures that take priority.

  47. RedPeachTeach

We enjoy traveling over spring break and making memories as a family! Living in the Midwest, the weather is crazy! Mid 80s yesterday and snow expected tonight! We like to head for somewhere warm during the break, to enjoy the outdoors!

  48. Kim T.

We haven’t been able to do a spring break trip in a couple of years, but we are excited to this year!

  49. Kathy

I usually do not take a spring break or staycation, unfortunately, but rather take a vacation during the summer or fall months.

  50. Jennifer McCormick

We don’t usually do a spring break trip since I have one in med school, one in college, one in high school, and one in middle school and the breaks never match. However, this year my only daughter and I did our first ever mother-daughter trip since she had a break between year 2 and 3 of med school. We went to Disney World for 5 days and had an amazing time!
