Here’s what our Hip team shared about their Spring Break Traditions:
“Spring Break trips have always been about making memories for us—choosing experiences over things. We love exploring new places together, and this year was extra special. It was my daughter’s last Spring Break at home, so when we asked where she wanted to go, she said Italy… and we made it happen.
I can’t even put into words how much this trip meant. Watching her take it all in, knowing this season of life is shifting, hit me in ways I didn’t expect. I’m beyond grateful we had this time together, fully present, away from work, away from distractions—just us, soaking it all in.
I shared our Italy adventures on Instagram stories here—it’s a trip I’ll hold close forever. ❤️” – Collin
“Our family typically goes on a big Spring break trip because it usually lands right around our anniversary/birthdays. We plan somewhere new to go every year, but this year we’ve decided to stay home and plan fun and affordable things to do after work! My kiddos are on Spring Break this week and we’ve got plans pretty much every day. We are going hiking/geocaching at a state park, heading to a nearby waterpark, Dave & Buster’s for 50% off games, bike riding, getting pizza and ice cream downtown, and a beach night! 🏖️“ – Liz
“We travel for spring break since it’s usually around our birthdays/anniversaries. We used to go to an Orlando resort every year so I could park myself in their lazy river in a floaty tube and eat fries all day but then everyone else found out about it and it just got way too crowded for us. So we discovered some really nice, yet still affordable villas with private pools in Orlando and it’s the best thing ever. Our villa also had a movie theater, pool table, and game room. Each one has a different theme, so it’s super fun if you’re staying with littles. Orlando is our go-to because there’s just so much to do but we try to plan our vacays before the spring break craziness hits and all the high school and college kiddos hit the beaches/theme parks. This year we had to settle for a staycation since the hubs is healing from an injury but the weather was wonderful and we found plenty to do.” – Cass
“We always go somewhere during my son’s spring break and in years past we have combined our vacation with wherever my husband had to go for travel during that week for work. We went to really exciting places like Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, New Orleans, and more. Our go-to place is Orlando, as my husband’s aunt lives a half hour away so we can usually stay with her. 🙌🏼 This year we’re going to Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure/Volcano Bay and staying on property. Later this summer we will do our yearly trip to Door County, WI – we started that during COVID because it’s like an off-grid adventure and we love it.” – Denise
Some of our Hip sidekicks don’t get a chance to celebrate Spring Break at all.
“We don’t typically do much for spring break. We sometimes would try and find some local things to do here and there, but nothing crazy.” – Melinda
“We don’t do a spring break trip, since my kids only have had a long weekend or two off from school in the spring. It usually lands around my son’s birthday and we find fun things to do in the area or plan a quick day trip to a large mall or fun event. We save our vacation trip planning for the summer. ❤️“ – Amber
“When our kids were younger we did spring break trips, but as older kids have jobs and sports and different schedules spring breaks are harder. Prices get expensive too right now for everything. Plus, in Phoenix, we usually have amazing weather right now so it’s hard to want to go anywhere else. We sometimes do a weekend staycation or at the very least catch a spring training baseball game like we did this weekend, when my oldest was home! We’re excited to plan a Florida Keys family vacation for June though!” – Lina
“Our kiddos here don’t really get a spring break – nothing more than a couple of 4-day weekends throughout March/April but that’s it. With so many family birthdays and sports this time of year, we are too busy to navigate a Spring break trip. Summer starts at the end of May though so we look forward to a summer trip when they’re home.” – Sara
“The school does get a week off in April, but we don’t usually do a Spring Break trip here. if anything, just a quick weekend trip somewhere local-ish for shopping. Otherwise, we mostly use that week for projects around the house/outside.
We get three weeks of vacation in September & October, so we tend to take our “Spring Break” trip then. The weather is better, less people have those weeks off so crowds are less of an issue, and it’s kind of like a last hurrah before the weather gets yucky and we stop traveling as much.” – Liza
Happy Spring from all of us at Hip2Save! 💐 We love and appreciate you all. 💕
Yes, of course! We go to watch MN Twins Spring Training every year, and it’s a blast! Beach days are on non-game days! Just got back from another wonderful time!
We do not travel for spring break. We do try to do fun things with the grandchildren.
Iām taking my kids to see their grandparents in New England this year. Itās been a while!
Having been on a really tight budget for more than a decade, we are finally traveling to see family in Asia this Spring Break. After the loss of a dear family member during COVID, there was a lot of regret & sadness. We didn’t get a chance to say goodbye. We also couldn’t afford to fly back for the funeral. After saving for 7+ years, we can finally go back to reconnect with family.
March and April are some of the busiest times of the year for me at work, so travel for fun usually isn’t an option then. But I typically take a few days by myself at the beach in May. My husband isn’t big on travel or the beach, and is content with just taking one vacation later in the year, so this works well for both of us.
We used to do a spring break trip for our kids’ senior year spring break. This year I am working extra so a co-worker can take spring break with her family! Happy to help since I am now an empty – nester.
We didn’t do a spring break trip this year. As my kids are getting older, they are doing their own thing for spring break. However, this year my daughter did come back from her out of state college, so we were able to spend a little time with her.
We occasionally travel for Spring Break. Our favorite destination is Wisconsin Dells, WI. Great food, shopping, and fun activities for the whole family.
We try to get away every spring break. The kiddo can sure use the break but so can the parents! Our family has a looong bucket list of places. (Theyāre taken off the top and then more get added to the list. God willing weāll never be done traveling) The thing we noticed is that after every trip thereās this huge jump in maturity, responsibility, engagement for our kiddo. Itās truly rewarding what travel and exposure to art, architecture, culture, food, language, etc will do for a young mind. Also, hoping that these travel habits tempt them back home every year in college and beyond. š poor college students canāt travel like they do when mommy is paying for travel. Good traditions!
my spring break is not going anywhere and working thanksssssssssssssssssss yea me lol
This spring break we’re going home to visit family in Milwaukee for a long weekend.
We keep our granddaughter over spring break while sheās out of school and we keep her busy with various activities in our local area.
We love spring break as a family “travel tribe”! For the last few years, my husband and I have taken our littles for a few overnights somewhere new mid-week so it isn’t too busy! This year, we got them their 19th and 20th states: Kansas and Nebraska! We HIGHLY recommend the Omaha Zoo!
We take many many trips all year long. Anywhere from 3-4 day weekends to a week or more to go to Europe to visit family. Have been going to Europe every year 1-2 times a year since 96. So much fun. Long weekends we travel by car visiting military family and friends.
We load our 5 kids for a day at a park. (:
We typically use spring break as our chance to visit family. We try to stay in St Augustine for a couple of days to enjoy the city inbetween visits with my Grandparents and other family who live nearby. My teens always look forward to it! Then they still have some of the week to sleep til 2pm and hang out with friends when we get back. š
It depends on the year, but because we’re based in cold Chicago, we do try to go somewhere warm when we can! This year we’re headed to Southern California. There’s an amazing zoo in Palm Desert (The Living Desert) that we highly recommend to people of all ages. For $10 you can be face to face with giraffes and feed them some leafy greens. It’s a magical experience and they let you take plenty of photos or video to save the memory.
We went to Las Vegas last week for 4 days!
We do! We usually go to Pigeon Forge, TN every year for spring break
Sometimes I do—just hubby, as a family, just my mom and daughter….varies year to year. This year I went early and visited Mexico with friends in Feb.
We have a time share so we travel at different times during the year. We use spring break as a staycation and take some day trips to fill the week:)

Not always but this year we went to Niagara Falls for a few days.
We get to spend extra time with our grand daughters on Spring break. We donāt travel but if weather cooperates we try to get out to the local parks and enjoy getting outside.
No, my work does not allow for a spring break trip. I’m in Washington, DC though so seeing the cherry blossoms is a spring treat for us and seeing all the tourists is a way to vicariously take a spring break through them!
We don’t really do “Spring Break” anymore, as both children are in their 30’s! But when they were little kids, we would plan the whole week and do fun day trips and go out to lunches. Some of our best family times were those outings!! I am looking forward to doing the same with the grandchildren in a few years!!
It depends on the year, but as our kids have gotten older and we know our family vacations, with just the four of us, are numbered, so we try to plan a getaway. We usually plan a road trip to somewhere that is more likely to be sunny and warmer!
We are going to the space center in Huntsville for a day trip.
Vacation/work trip! Lol.
We live in Florida, so we usually do day trips to the beach and spring training baseball games. We also use the time to get some projects done around the house.
Definitely. My husband is an adventurist and memory-maker. In the past weāve gone to Myrtle Beach, that I can remember. This year weāre dividing and conquering. The 2 boys n I are going with my sibs to stay at our Airbnb in Pooler GA. We plan to visit Tybee Island and Jekyll Island. My husband and 2 girls will attend a quincianera in FL. Our fav destinations during Spring are along the coast. But maybe one day we might just go to our mountain cabin instead.
After an exhausting family vacation this past summer with our two elementary-aged kids who have very different interests, we told them it would be less work to get a dog than to travel with them again this year! So currently looking at miniature schnauzer puppies! š
We’re hearing camping for the weekend with the whole family. . Grandma, aunts & uncles and nieces
Yes! Going to Ecuador next week to visit family. Canāt wait š
My son’s soccer doesn’t take time off during spring break, and he won’t take time off for the break. I work at a school and have the same time off, so I go visit my mom in Mississippi. It’s getting harder for her to travel, and I enjoy the one on one time spent with her.
Nola or las Vegas are our go to spring break destinations.
I work for a university and am able to travel for Spring Break. My all time fav place to go is New Orleans. Tons of great food, amazing people, and interesting things to see.
Stayed home and watched the grand dog, so the grandkids & our son went snowboarding in CO. Fun for all, walks & playing ball doesn’t get better than that!
Going to visit partners family for his Dad’s birthday! I truly feel one of the best gifts is time with the ones you love. Life is too short!
For Spring Break we are staying home and enjoying our local museums and kid friendly places! We did Disney World one year and it was a too busy and chaotic. We save our big trips for summer.
We went to San Diego, CA for our spring break family trip. Our daughter played tennis for the college she is attending. Loved it!
Went to Siesta Key. Beautiful beach.
We went to Dinosaur Valley State Park and Fossil Rim Wildlife Center. It was a calm and relaxing vacation
We normally take a trip with the kids and grandkids. But this year, one of the grandkids had a different Spring Break week. So, we are doing a four day getaway over the Easter weekend. Making memories!
Don’t I wish, my kids are in college and so am I for my Masters. I am spending the spring break studying and working, argh. Oh, how I wish I knew back in high school how to appreciate this time. I always told my kids not to rush but they didn’t listen either. I am taking my bf’s kids and my grandbaby to the zoo on Sunday weather permitting.
We travel if its in our budget but if not we just take a few days off so we can spend more time with the kids while they’re off and catch up on home projects/spring cleaning we havent had time to do.
We usually do an early summer vacation in May, so for Spring break we do a quick day trip or weekend away. Though a trip to Italy would be nice!
We went to Manasota Key in Florida and Naples Florida to visit my parents with our 2 kids. It was awesome!
No spring break trip for us but Iām going to Orlando with my daughter who has a work trip in May!
We aren’t taking a Spring Break trip this year. Most likely we will just relax. š
