Several States Are Sending Out A Stimulus Check in 2022 (Are You Eligible?)
A state stimulus check might be headed your way in 2022.
Some states are providing economic relief via tax rebates.
Though the federal government probably won’t send stimulus checks in 2022, you might be receiving some help from your state. In the latest attempt to combat inflation and stave off a recession, well over a dozen states have decided to send income tax rebate checks to their residents. Most of these refunds are for small amounts (so don’t get too excited) but we do have the scoop on who qualifies and when to expect a payment!
Find your state below and see if you qualify for a stimulus payment:

Got our $1800 on January 4th.
https://www.cnbc.com/2021/01/05/status-not-available-some-taxpayers-wont-receive-stimulus-check.html
I got mine 6 days ago in Ca. My daughter who I live with has not. Just like last time. Also this has a lot of posts!!
If your daughter did not receive any of the stimulus money, there is a place to claim it on this year’s tax return.
Yes, my son was a dependent under me and he was a college student. So we did not get anything. This year he filed himself and he got his stimulus in his taxes. I made him do his own taxes this year since he works and I wanted to avoid what happened with the last two.
Check your mailbox everyday if you are eligible, and not getting direct deposit. Here in Reno, our neighborhood mailbox and 30 others were broken into on New Year’s Eve. The post office said there is a big surge because thieves are looking for them.
Also signing up for informed delivery can help. You can see your check on the day it’s arriving and be prepared. It’s been a helpful service for myself.
Love informed delivery. I see everything coming to me before it hits the mailbox. We use it because my husbands old boss was old school and sent out checks instead of direct depositing the money.
What is informed delivery?
It’s a service the post office offers.. you sign up for it on the USPS website
You get an email showing a scan of most pieces of mail you should receive in your mailbox each delivery date. My email usually arrives between 8:00-9:00 each morning.

We need to realize in the USA that there is free enterprise! Freedom of speech even if we don’t like what hate people are spewing. This is a business that supports families and they use their discretion as to what they do to support those families. Anyone who does not like a website can never look at it again. I love the deals and when I find it’s changes don’t benefit me anymore I will stop using it. You can too! But for now we need to work harder everyday to be what God wants us to be. Encourage and help those who are discouraged and angry! We surely don’t need anymore unrest! Walk away from the news and pray tomorrow will be a better day!!!🙏
Agreed 2020 was horrible not just because of COVID but also because of the sociological events which took place, we need to move and work towards a better future for the sake of our children and hope we never have to relive something like 2020.
Warning! If you paid any Bill’s Visa the USA mail during December, check your bank info. Very likely they did not reach destination.
Had I known this would happen, would not have mailed my bills.
The credit card companies of course, will feel entitled to charge late fees!
This sounds like it was done on purpose!
I assume you meant via the US mail. Snail mail. Yea mailing payments in December would likely been a really bad month to do so unless mailed in advance. Paying bills online if possible is always a good option. (Especially during an unprecedented situation). Hopefully these companies can be contacted and explain your situation. Cant hurt to try. Best of luck.
I usually write a note saying I only have internet at work and the companies credit my late payment fee.
People still use snail mail to pay bills??? 😅
I never received either stimulus check 😞- my work hours were reduced I’ve tried to call – Guess I’m still going to have to wait til I file our taxes 😩
I do. But I suppose in time that will not be allowed either.
I was just wondering the same thing 🤣
Stimulus check was made by direct deposit but the bank have not release the money to me although I asked several times, is there a way IRS can retrieve the money $600 back. to IRS and redeposit to my other bank. I need help please.
Just an FYI for others, if you receive the debit card, the monies on the debit card can be transferred to a bank account (no fee). It does take 1-2 days extra, but if this works for you, great. I believe if you look under the FAQs for the debit card, that it is FAQ #6.
Mine and my parents’ say they should have been mailed on January 9th but still nothing. I guess if it doesn’t come by the time we file taxes we just do the recovery thing? And if it shows up somehow later don’t cash it? Who knows! My parents don’t make enough to file taxes so I really hope theirs will come and they won’t have to worry about it.
Mine said mailed on January 6th and it just arrived today January 29th. Hang in there!
I received mine via a DEBIT CARD.
Mins said payment #2 status not available since they started sending them out but 2 days ago it changed and said it would be deposited today and sure enough it was in my account this morning🙌
That’s a blessing. Glad you got it.
Both of my daughters finally got their money yesterday by direct deposit. I’m not sure why it took so long for them to get theirs because they’re both lower income. I got mine on time, but had to help them out since they didn’t theirs in the beginning. Ty h2s for the opportunity to share when we got them.
You’re very welcome!
My husband and I received our first stimulus money on a debit card. Our bank transferred the money from the card to our bank account, easy peasy. The 2nd stimulus money came to us in the form of a cheque from the treasury department.
The cards come with a truckload of terms and conditions and junk fees.
My advice is take the card and your pin # you have to create to a bank and draw all the money from your card and deposit into your account. Your first withdrawal is free.
Ours was deposited into our bank account that we closed after the first stimulus. Today we checked and our status is saying it will be mailed on the 5th of February.
Just checking, the Jan 4 payment for $600 (I’m a single taxpayer, no kids) was direct deposited Jan 4. But the 2nd payment, was that suppose to be $1,200? When I checked the Fed website, it detailed the 3 previous direct deposit payments, but didn’t show any info for $1,200. Anyone else have this happen?
It’s February 9 and although eligible, I have not received the second stimulus EIP. When I checked the IRS website, it said that it was mailed on Jan 6. Anyone else not receive it?
My mom has the same issue. We are trying to check into it for her, but not sure what to do.
I haven’t read the comments yet. However I’m glad they didn’t turn them off so that I can read them. Thanks Hip2Save. Now I’m going to read them and see if I feel differently. Try keeping an open mind about things and not shutting things down. People are going to think or feel the way that they do and thank goodness that’s your right.
did anyone get a letter in the mail from the IRS dated February 26, 2021 (strangely we received it yesterday and that’s today’s date). It mentions issuing the second EIP and how it’s not taxable income, etc. Just curious.
Did you receive it? I just got the same letter (at least it sounds the same) and its dated Feb 26,2021.
I did as well. I got the payment awhile ago, so I found the letter very bizarre.
I’d just say, if you have any plan to contact the IRS, use contact info directly from their website (irs.gov) and not from that letter. This round of stimulus didn’t get finalized by Feb 26… Seems weird to get a letter before it was finalized. I’m assuming there’s a big market for fraud in scammers trying to get people’s personal info in all of this.
My mom who is disabled did not receive any of the stimulus money. When we check the status it says it was sent to an bank account but it’s not her bank account. We have checked years back and it’s not a bank account that she’s ever had. What to do?
When can we expect the 3rd stimulus check .. will this be deposit or card sent in mail?
As soon as next week. Direct deposit at first then mailed checks and debit cards. It is going off most recent taxes so if you have filed 2020 it’s going off that for deposit type or it will come how the past two or the way your 2019 taxes came.
If I already filed my taxes on feb 12 , will they send the stimulus to my new address?I did not receive a federal refund so IRS does not have my direct deposit information.. I’m hoping they don’t go off my 2019 taxes because all the stimulus money will go to my ex husband . Can somebody confirm this?
They will go off your 2019 then. I filed and have not received my 2020 tax refund, even though they have received them they went off my 2019…ugh
America will soon be bankrupt. Less than ten percent of that bill is for Covid relief. We have just put mountains of debt on the backs of our children and grandchildren.
first your 10% math is false. second we have a 27 trillion dollar deficit. we just wasted 1.7 trillion on a failed fighter jet. it failed. it’s useless. wasted money. I’m fine with adding 1.9 trillion that can actually do some good.
If $1.9 trillion actually went to the American people, we would all get around $7,400. Now that’s an economic stimulus. This bill is full of wasteful 🐖.
Your comment is misleading. Yes, about 9% goes directly to combat COVID (contain the virus) BUT 80% of the bill is to provide economic relief to businesses and people affected by the pandemic (COVID-19). Businesses and people are really being affected by the pandemic so this stimulus is absolutely needed.
100% yes! The government is doing whatever they can to push inflation. One day we will come to the painful realization that we created our own mess, and by then it will be too late and the damage will be done. Remember, the government has no money. The government’s money come from us!
Are you donating yours to charity then?
👍👍👍
A lot of us do donate to charities, so yes. Are you in need of charity? If so, we can get you the help you need.
Sure you said that when Trump gave massive tax cuts to the ultra wealthy.. right right?
Just to clarify, a number of comments here are about receiving the 2nd round of stimulus (from federal legislation signed into law in late 2020) while this post is talking about Biden’s American Rescue Plan (ie 3rd round of stimulus) that just achieved final passage in Congress TODAY and has not yet been signed into law (so IRS has not yet even begun sending this round, still needs to be signed into law by Biden). In addition to the $1,400 checks, there is also billions for vaccine distribution, allocations for aid to State and local governments in particular for reopening schools, and it ALSO expands the child tax credit to up to $3,600 per child and extends some of the federal boost to unemployment benefits (that was set to expire soon/ in a few days).
Main stream media has kept the full reporting of where the majority of this money will go to a minimum. Of course people who need it, should get the help they need. At the same time it is important to note that the majority of the money is going for bailouts to poorly run states/cities like New York and San Francisco et al. And other “pork” that should not be laid on the middleclass taxpayer. Yes, some for the schools who havent used the money allocated to them on the last round yet, so why more? It is important not to take my word or anybody elses word on FB or blogs. You must look to reliable sources and/or read the bills yourself. This country used to be run on a balanced budget. That ended years ago and we keep piling on the debt that will indeed be put on the backs of our children and grands. There are no free rides, everything comes at a cost.
I am a boomer and none cared about me paying the debts of the www generation.
This is how government works, um the dollar will be destroyed by the time your kids are older.
One world government, one world currency!
Get yours while you can!
Sooo what happens if you filed your 2019 and the government still hasn’t processed it???
I am in the same boat, had to do a paper return and still no refund
Oh goodie, so looking forward to paying HIGHER taxes for years and years to pay for this.
Spend trillions of tax dollars to go to Mars, no problem. Return (some of) the money Americans have been paying the government for decades, SoCiaLiSM. Like clockwork.
What about…..
IT’S HIP 2 SAVE? Our government shouldn’t be spending money they/we don’t have on anything!!!
I don’t know about you, but my family could really use this NOW and worry about the higher taxes later. Hopefully, we will be in a better position to deal with the higher taxes.
$1400 at a cost of $6000 per person. Ridiculous!
I thought it was $1400 per person for couples with an adjusted gross income of $150,000 or less, totaling $2800
Question… My brother just got out of jail a few weeks ago. How does he get his stimulus check? Should he file 2020 taxes even though he was incarcerated? Please no nasty comments. TIA
Deanna, this is what I found:
People in prison or who where who did not receive the stimulus payment (first or second) may be able to claim the payments by filling out a 1040 tax form and mailing it to the IRS.
Thanks!
Great! just what my lazy brother who lives off my mom and hasn’t worked in years needs, more free money handed to him.
Isn’t this bill just sick? We won’t use this money, it’s going straight to our church.
Real “American Patriot” let’s hand the tax exempt church, instead the money going back into the economy by spending it, but you know “American Patriot”. What a shame.
Is t it awesome we live in a “free” country???
Apparently I don’t qualify for this $1400 because I get disability every month. I am so way far below the poverty line only got a little over $11,000 for the entire 2020 year! Not enough to file a tax return and half of that goes to my $375 a month for rent that does not include any utilities. I can’t even afford a car! So pissed that I am not getting this $1400 stimulus pymt! I am one of the americans who could really use it! Thanks President Biden and the rest who over looked us disabled low income folks who most def could use that stimulus money!!!
Do you have kids? I’ve never seen someone not qualify for the child credit because of disability…doesn’t sound right.
Or are you talking about the regular stimulus check?
You should qualify. You can file a tax return even if you aren’t due a refund, and that will trigger any type of stimulus payments that may be due to you.
You basically file $0 and they round it up to $1. I did it for a woman I know and she’s gotten both now.
You should be able to get all the stimulus checks that had been given. Being on disability has nothing to do with it. You should go on the IRad website & find out as to why you haven’t received it. If you have children, then you should receive the monthly child tax credit that this post is about.
IRS website meant to type. You don’t need to file a tax return either. They have the options for non-filers. But if you file one, it’ll be faster for you to receive the money. You can file for free. Certain states give you this option on their states’ websites. I’m from NY & I know for sure they provide that free online service. If you can’t do it, please find someone you trust that can do it for you.
This is an article that mentions reasons if you would like to opt out & gives you other options & reasons if you need to contact the IRS to change/update your information. Hope it’s helpful to someone.
https://money.com/why-should-parents-opt-out-of-monthly-child-tax-credit-payments/
The amounts dont add up to me. If i got a $2000 child tax credit, but they are adding another $1000 to it (for kids over the age of 6), why would I get $250/mo for 6 months? That would be $1500 on top of the $2000 credit totalling $3500. It should equal $3000 right? But the numbers would equal $3800 for 6 and under and $3500 for 17 and under. Or am I thinking it wrong? Idk. My brain hurts….
Oh wait, I get it now. Brain works again. These are advanced payments. Not for 2020 tax season, for 2021. Duh
This comment aged like milk…🤣
🤣😂😆
You are 100% right and Pelosi tried to add even more debt but finally the Republicans stood up to her but just look at the damage she created (your list). She gave Americans crumbs.
Opt out. Your end of year tax bill will be higher if you choose to receive the monthly payment. You may like getting a monthly check, but you may not like the big tax bill when it’s filing time. This is NOT in addition to the existing Child Tax Credit, this is half of it now. Just a suggestion if you don’t need the funds now.
Why would you opt out of getting your money just so the government can hang on to it for size extra months? There are so many ways you could make that money work for you like paying off debt that you will have to pay interest on, investing it, using it to lower your interest rate on a mortgage or loan, even just having the money on hand to hit up really good sales so you can get things you will need at the lowest price.
This is an advanced tax refund basically. It will not increase your taxes when you file them. Basically they will give you a tax refund if $3,000 and they will give you half now $1500 and the other half $1500 when you get your tax return. It will not affect your taxes if you get half now because it’s been already adjusted to your tax return for next year. I been reading about this none stop because it IS very confusing but it actually is very simple. I’m just worried about how this will affect the deficit that our country currently has. Our kids will end up paying for this when they become adults. Inflation is already happening at an alarming rate.
My son is turning 6 next week. Will we get $300 or $250 monthly for him? Thanks.
It will depend on your AGI 2020 due to the two phase outs. The Kiplinger calculator is helpful.
$250
He has to be between 0-5 by the last day if 2021 to get $300. Then be 6-17 by the last day of December to get $250. I am missing out because my son turns 18 December 29th 🤦♀️ Still in high school.
Q has entered the chat
I haven’t been able to find anything on the exact impact this will have at next years filing…it will reduce the credit right?
I’m with you. This is also confusing me.
No, this is an entirely new credit, so if you accept the monthly payments, nothing will change your normal tax return in 2022. If you’d like to defer this tax credit payments, you will instead get a much bigger than normal tax credit next spring.
This is confusing to me. So its a tax credit so to me it sounds like what you would get as a return next year when you file your taxes they are giving it to us now? So you would get less return next year when you receive your tax return?
This is an expanded tax credit in the amount of 3,600. They are offering monthly payments in the amount of $250.00 or $300.00 (depending on your child’s age) beginning July thru December. The remaining amount of the $3,600 will be added to your return when you file your 2021 taxes next year. You don’t have to get the payments now you can wait and receive the $3,600 when you file next year. It’s meant to help struggling families now, but you can decline the early payments. I hope this helps.
Thank you! So you will get either way the money (monthly now or big lump during tax return) and if you opt to get the monthly now you do not get penalized? Meaning it’s tax exempt? Will not be taxed on that money next year? Just worried since we received the stimulus checks (both of them this year) and now this this year if they will tax that money as income. Next year we are only getting the other half of the child credit and no other stimulus so taxing might be less if they are taxing that money. Do not know if I’m making sense. Basically do you know if we need to report that money when filling taxes or since it came from the IRS (they already know it was sent) so we don’t need to add that to the tax filling
Maybe someone can help me. I have a foster son since October. His mother claimed him on his taxes when she only worked from November to January . So now I have had him for 8 months and will have him for at least another 9 months but everything is based off last years return so how can I correct this. Basically she beat me to filing. So she doesn’t have her children, but she is still getting the stimulus, the tax credits all because she filed already. I’m in mass and can’t find any laws on this: but is there away to send them proof I have custody and me receive it instead?
I put the links before where this information came from:
According to Barlow, children born any time up until 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 31 will qualify for the entire 2021 child tax credit, “but the monthly payments would only be on a go-forward basis.”
Additionally, if you adopt a child from the U.S. at any age under 18 at any point in 2021, you will get the full credit.
However, one important thing to note is that unless it’s a newborn or you finalized an adoption in 2021, each child needs to live with you for more than half of the year to be eligible for the child tax credit. If you’re granted full custody or you’re a foster family that takes in a child after July 1, you cannot claim them for the child tax credit. You also can’t claim the credit if the child is not a U.S. citizen, even if you have citizenship.”
YOUR STEALING FROM YOURSELF
Also, could we start a new thread? There are 1985 replies dated back to January. They don’t have anything to do with the child credit.
Is a child born 2021 eligible for the $300?
Yes, it’s any child newborn to 5 before the end of this year for $300 and 6-17 for $300
Thanks Jackie. How would I get the payments if I have already filed my taxes before the birth? TIA
My son was just born may 2021 so he is not on my 2020 tax return, is he eligible?
Yes, it’s any child newborn to 5 before the end of this year for $300 and 6-17 for $300
I’ll be having a child soon how do we apply for this?
I’ll be a first time mom married and expecting our child end of this month, does this still apply to us?
250.00 PER MONTH – IF THIS HELPS PEOPLE YOU ARE IN SERIOUS FINANCIAL TROUBLE – THESE CHECKS ARE JUST TAKING MONIES FROM YOUR 2021 TAX FILING – BIDEN IS ALLOWING PEOPLE TO TAKE FROM THEIR CHILD TAX CREDIT EARLY – WHATTA JOKE !!
Wrong wrong wrong. Your entire post is incorrect. Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity. Martin Luther King Jr.
Edward is absolutely right. This is not a stimulus check. This is an advance on your child tax credit for next year. These monthly payments will be taken out of your tax return next year. Also, if you made more money this year and no longer qualify for the credit, you have to pay it back.
I received my DD!!!
Thank you for letting us know. I am sure this will help many people. Thanks again!
You’re very welcome!
This reduces childhood poverty by in the most richest country in the history of the world by 50%. So yes, im ok with paying a bit more in taxes as a person who is not eligible for this payment. Instead of 3bn in tax cut that was given to the top 2% of the billionaires in the prev admin, i would rather $$ benefit middle and lower income group of our community. So for everyone yelling about higher taxes…this is on you folks…u elect ppl who would rather tax middle class than ever dream of raising taxes on their donor class.
Lis, thank you for the carefully worded reply. Mine wud not have been so “toned down”.😵
Our direct deposit came but was the wrong amount. We don’t “need” it but we don’t want taxes next year to be messed up. Probably should have opted out and just waited for tax season. It was off by $50. (And, no, there wouldn’t be any income threshold that lowered the amount.) Anyone else?
Ours was a really random amount and it was like they completely forgot a kid. I thought I had opted out. But 🤷🏻♀️🙄
It’s probably a different amount because based on your income, the amount is decreased.
It depends on the age of the child, $250 or $300..?????
My husband and I opted out, have confirmation that we opted out, irs website states that we are disenrolled and I still woke up to a ding that my direct deposit went thru 🤦♀️
My daughter turns 18 this year (in September) and we got a payment for her. I’m fully expecting to have to pay it back when I file my taxes as we shouldn’t even be eligible for the money since she’s turning 18 this year. Not sure how the IRS computers determine eligibility, but apparently not by calculating ages of dependents. I wouldn’t think it would be that difficult … sigh.
I’ve seen several comments calling this a “stimulus”…this is not a stimulus payment. This is an advance payment on your child tax credit for your 2021 tax return. Whatever you receive now (July – December) will be deducted from your 2021 child tax credit on your tax return. You might need it now and that’s OK but just know your 2021 tax return will be smaller than you are used to getting. Be informed!
You’re correct. Everyone also needs to keep in mind the income thresholds for your household for this credit. If you end up making more money than the current income threshold they have for this credit, you’ll probably have to pay some of the money you received if your income is higher for this year. I guess it’ll be adjusted like they’re doing for people doing $150k joint filers for example
Maybe the random amount people are getting is the money you get back from paying taxes on unemployment. If you paid taxes on unemployment money you received they are refunding some of that money to people. I received that on Tuesday and received the child credit today. Just a thought!
