If you’re looking to get organized without breaking the bank, Dollar Tree is one of the best places to shop for storage solutions! That’s because every single item in the store is just ONE dollar each, and they have a huge selection of storage and organizational items to help keep things neat and organized!

Here are 10 of our best tips to get organized using Dollar Tree’s $1 storage items:

1. Keep scarves neat with shower curtain hooks.

Not sure what to do with all your scarves? Pick up a pack of 12 shower curtain rings and hangers to create a simple and effective way to keep your scarves organized without taking up much room.

2. Store crayons in soap cases or snack containers.

Dollar Tree has a plethora of storage containers in various sizes and colors! Consider placing crayons or small toys in snack/veggie containers with lids or travel soap containers so you can easily grab them when you’re on-the-go. Throw them in your purse, diaper bag or carry-on luggage – they’re great for traveling, too!

3. Use stacking bins under the sink.

These colorful bins are great for using under the bathroom or kitchen sink to hold miscellaneous hair products, razors, soap bars, medicines, facial care products, sponges, dishwasher tabs, and more!

4. Organize sock drawers with fabric bins.

These fabric collapsible storage containers may get overlooked at Dollar Tree, but we love them for keeping our kiddos’ sock and/or underwear drawers neat and tidy. Plus, when it’s laundry time, the kids can just grab the bin out of their drawer and easily load it up in the laundry room!

5. Keep loose cords in toothbrush holders or eyeglass cases.

Tired of finding random cords around the house and being confused about who they belong to or what their purpose is? Keep track of charging cables, earbuds, and other cords in toothbrush holders (or eyeglass carrying cases) and label them with the contents. This makes traveling a breeze as the holders fit nicely in all bags!

Dollar Tree’s eyeglass carrying cases are also nice for holding bulkier cables/cords as they have space in the top and bottom of the case. They also snap shut so they keep things securely inside.

6. Store boots upright with pool noodles.

Have boots that tend to flop over? Keep your tall boots standing upright in the closet with pool noodles! Just cut them to size and place them inside your boots to help them hold their shape while not in use.

7. Keep summer toys in mesh laundry bags.

One thing about the beach is that sandgets everywhere. Keep those sand toys in mesh laundry bags at the beach so you can just shake out the sand before packing in the car instead of bringing it home with you.

8. Display jewelry with a metal cooling rack.

Make your own frugal jewelry holder! Just pick up a pack of two metal cooling racks for a buck, hang it on the wall, and then you’ll be able to easily display and organize your earrings, sunglasses, necklaces, and more.

9. Store essential oils using makeup organizers.

Have a lot of little essential oil bottles laying around the house? Keep them organized with a clear makeup organizer at Dollar Tree. There are several different shapes and sizes to choose from, too!

    What great ideas—thank you! 🙂

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

You’re so welcome! Glad you enjoyed the list!

  2. Connie S

I use the fabric organizer for clean socks too and undies as well. And I have a spare one I put by the closet near the shoes for the used socks. I’ll have to try #1, 3, 5, and 9! Thanks!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Awesome! You’re welcome, Connie S!

Any reviews on using the laundry bag for sand toys? I always worry pockets of sand will still get in my car.

    • 5pink1blue

I have always used a mesh laundry bag for beach toys. Works great!

    • Liz

You could just shake them off and put them in an ikea bag

    • Momo'teens

They work well if you shake them well. Also, let the toys dry first, shake well. There is a small bit of sand left, so put a towel down.

    • Jeremiah2911

We’ve been using this mesh laundry bag trick for the past few years, and it’s so easy to haul from the car to the beach! I always keep mine in a laundry basket in the car with a gal of water. Easy to clean up and store toys shoes etc on the way home!

I have organized my pantries and bathroom cabinets all with things from the dollar store. They have such a variety, you really can’t beat it! You can also buy the file holders in the school section, spray paint them a neutral color (they’re bright and neon) and use them to hold paper plates, solo cups, etc!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

I have organized my cabinets and pantry with Dollar Tree items too! Thanks for the tip on file folders!

    • Shoppingfan

@Shannyshy Can you explain how the folded hold cups & plates? I’m very intrigued by this. I have a million file folders. I already use bins in my pantry. Thxs

      • shannyshy

Maybe file holder isn’t the right word, lol. They are like magazine holders. If I could send a picture I would. I stored file folders in them when I was a teacher, maybe that’s why I call them that. They are in the school supplies section and they have a lot of neon colors. I think they may even be called book holders on the label. I don’t know if this helped at all! Lol.

    • Jen S

Ok I’m intrigued! How do you organize solo cups with a file holder? The plates sounds awesome…. right now I have plastic bags full of party stuff just piled up on my top pantry shelf. Needs to be organized desperately!

      • shannyshy

Jen, please read my comment above. Idk if I explained right, haha.

  5. *Angela-Miles*

They also have an actual scarf holder, that is felt material and works really well. My dollar tree had pink, green and blue ones. Some shaped like a flower and others just straight across 😃.

    • Shoppingfan

I was about to say the same thing. I grabbed one Friday. Setting it up now!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

How neat! I’ll have to look for that in my store! Thanks for the heads up!

  6. Lisa

I’ve got several “magazine racks” that I use in a kitchen cabinet to contain water bottles. So much easier than knocking them off the top shelf like bowling pins…pull out grab one, or pull out completely to fill up with clean bottles.

    • CJ

Hey, we’re you just watching ME trying to get a water bottle down at MY house?!? 😆. I think I’ll try the magazine holder too!

      • Lisa

So funny CJ! It’s like squirt bottles and travel cups multiply in the washer.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Ooh! Love that idea, Lisa! Thanks for the tip!

  7. dylanfan

Can someone recommend bins for a deep freezer? I want ones that run along the length so they’d sit along the edge. The freezer I bought came with 1 but I’d like 3 more.

    • obler

You might check the container store. They have lots of options. It’s not as budget friendly as the dollar tree, but maybe worth it if you can find the few bins you need. Good luck.

    • Erin Rank

Did you check the manufacturers website to see if they sell them as replacement parts? Ours came with 2 but they are super helpful.

  8. Gramma C

Lately I have had to throw out several items form Dollar Tree as they have such a strong chemical smell it makes me sick. A plastic pitcher, kids ball on a string, bungee cords…. Also some kids paint I bought stained my towels and our sidewalk even though it was water based and name brand. My health isn’t worth buying this cheap crap any longer.

  9. Lisa

I tried using $1 tree bins to organize my pantry & ended up reusing them for something else or giving them away. Most bins are small & go in at the bottom & not straight down & I lost a lot of empty space between bins. Plus they’re not that strong. I ended up going to At Home & getting woven baskets for my pantry. I have a tiny pantry & kitchen & stock up a lot so I need to use all space possible.

The soap containers are great for holding a deck of cards. I also get the 2 pack flat plastic food containers for puzzles. They stack perfectly and take up very little space! DT use to have stackable clear containers (the tops had 2 flaps that close together.) They are very sturdy. I use those for small kitchen items such as cupcake liners and toothpicks.

  12. Sarah

I use those shower caddies every time we go on a road trip to fill with snacks and activity books, etc. for each child. It fits well at their feet and they have something to do other than asking “Are we there yet?” Lol

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

      LOL! Love that idea, Sarah!

  13. Kay

A bit off subject but I am trying to organize as well but I am in need of new dressers for literally my whole family. 2 adults and 3 children. I was hoping you guys had advice on where would be best for deals? TIA!!

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

We love IKEA! Some of our favorites are in this post.

  14. tracy chester

What great ideas !!!!!! These would all make cheap and great christmas gifts too. Thanx for posting this. Money is tight this year and I now feel better.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

You’re very welcome! SO glad this was helpful! 💖
