Feb

February is HERE and with the new month comes Super Bowl, Valentine’s Day, and President’s Day sales. Although February may be the shortest month of the year, it doesn’t mean you can’t save BIG on various necessities or household items. Here are the top five things to buy in the month of February…

1.) HDTV’s

HDTV

If you’re in the market for a new TV, February is the time to buy. Not only are there Super Bowl and Presidents’ Day sales, but the new models that are revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show in early January means retailers are dropping prices on old models to make way for new ones.

2.) Tax Software and Essentials

Tax Software

With the dreaded tax season ahead, many tax software boxes, tax filing companies and online tax filing agencies will offer incentives and even Free options to file with them throughout the month.

3.) Fragrances & Jewelry

Fragrances

With Valentine’s Day approaching, many retailers will offer nice discounts on gifts such as jewelry, fragrances, chocolate, flowers and other related gifts. However, to score the best deals, you may want to wait until after February 14th and shop the clearance sales with your coupons in tow!

4.) Canned Goods and In-Season Produce

Canned Goods

Did you know that February is National Canned Food month? As a result, you’ll find deep discounts on many canned goods at your local grocery store as well as more coupons for canned fruits and veggies (be sure to check out my video on warehouse shopping versus grocery store shopping on canned goods and where you can save the most!). If you’d rather purchase fresh vegetables, you can also save on in-season items such as onions, citrus, sweet potatoes, beets, cabbage, celery and cauliflower.

5.) Winter Apparel & Necessities

Winter Clothes

With Presidents’ Day sales, you can often save up to 80% on clothing (and be sure to browse through the clearance racks!). Items to shop for include winter coats, winter clothing and accessories (including high end brands), boots and snow maintenance equipment.

Looked for the coupon for Turbo tax on groupon and could not find it

    • Marie

Costco had the cheapest price on the Turbotax Deluxe + State at 39.85
There’s also an online company called Newegg.com that had it priced about the same. All other stores were closer to $50

    • A

Anyone know any coupon codes for TaxAct? The best I found was $1 off the Plus version.

    • Janice

I used TurboTax for years. Military members get to file for free. Went to H&R Block for comparison, they found the same return amount as TurboTax and they were going to charge us $312?!!! So I said, no thank you. I’ll do it myself.

A few weeks ago, many stores on the east coast started to clearance out winter apparel. It has been unseasonably warm. I found winter hats for 47, gloves and scarves for .97 at non-outlet stores

    • thehenrydthoreau

      *non-outlet Old Navy stores.

    • Happymama

Agreed! I scored toddler snow pants under $5 on clearance and lots of gloves and boots – all before the first real snow in Ohio. Score!

  7. Jennine

I use to work In The Shopko jewelry department. This time is Defiantly the time to buy jewelry. Best sales all year. Everyone’s competing. Items will go on sale 70-80% off! Before v-day, not after then your playing the long waiting gambling game. Check your flyers and retailers sales online. Best prices at Shopko specifically for black hills gold.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thanks for the heads up Jennine!

You may be able to get some now at Walgreens. Many stores have leftover fragrance/bath sets and other giftables left over from Christmas – they will try to sell them for Valentine’s Day Gifts! My store actually kept them on clearance, or lowered the price.
