Do you have to purchase anything? Sounds too good to be true. That’s an expensive treatment

    • Mary

      Nope, no purchase necessary

  2. mamascott

Oh, and is Living Proof the products?

  3. Katie

    Awesome! Just booked my appointment.

Mamascott – I have done these free sessions at Ulta before(with a different product) and there was no purchase necessary. You do need to tip your hair stylist though.

I booked an appointment. I’m curious as to what the service will be like. I found a facebook page from this event that they did back in July and some of the comments said service was horrible! Has anyone done one of these events?

    • Kate

I haven’t done an event yet because they fill up fast at my location, but I have been before for a regular haircut, and the service and cut was great, and I’m pretty picky about my hair. HTH!

    • Erin

Hi Jenn – I did the one back in July and I wasn’t too happy. Since it was free, it was fine. But the girl seemed like I was the last one she wanted to see. In addition, she timed me from start to finish and the second she hit 30 min (with wash and dry), she stopped. My hair was still mostly wet.

However, I’ve heard some people have loved it, so it may just depend on the stylist. I’d consider trying it again and seeing if it was a fluke for me the first go around.

just made my appt! i do their free blowouts all the time and they truly are free, but i leave a generous tip!

    • mamascott

How much is a generous tip? I have no clue what to tip for this

  6. Audrey

Just booked my appointment, thanks. Hopefully it’s not a horrible experience.

  7. tesneim

  8. Amy

    Just booked mine! Yay!

I would love for them to try to blow out my hair. hahaha I have curly long hair that when blown stands straight out and looks like a afro. No one has ever been able to do a blow out. I just leave wet and scrunch up in a bun till it dries on its own. Never found a product yet that worked on my hair well.

    • Lissette

You should do a Keratin treatment.

I have long curly hair, and I recently got a trim at Ulta. The stylist used Redken Curvaceous Ringlet lotion on my hair and then blow-dried it with a diffuser, and it worked very well. I usually use mousse at home, but I bought some of the Redken lotion and I’ve been happy with it. It works great on my daughter’s hair too, which is also long and curly.

      Hi Teresa,

I too have long really curly somewhat course hair and have found only a few people are able to truly blow it out straight (smooth and shiny). It takes a skilled hair stylist and a lot of elbow-grease a full 60 minutes. If you have a Blowdry Bar salon near you (one that specializes in blow-outs only) this is the place to go.

I tried Ulta once and I left looking like I had placed my finger in a light socket. My husband had a good laugh:-)

I haven’t been to a hair salon in over 20 years but I can’t wait lol
    Thanks Collin

I don’t go here anymore considering they charge me $275 for a highlights with cut and style! Their reasoning was since I had long hair (about 3-4 inches above my waist) that they had to charge me double, as if I were 2 people…..Ridiculous!

    • Christine

As a hair stylist that is a very reasonable price for me. High lights are very labor intensive and even worse on long hair.

      • charel

I agree – I paid $180 at a different salon for hair that was only 3-4 inches below past my shoulders – $275 for waist length hair is not a bad rate!!

    • April

It makes me glad that I live in a really small town. When I used to get highlights, cut, and style, I paid about $75 and that included the tip! When I started getting a lot of grays, I had to switch to all over color and now I just do my own. I also have long hair and would flip if the cost was that high…reasonable or not. I understand wanting to be paid for your hard work but $275 is more than 1/3 of my mortgage payment. It just wouldn’t be on my list of priorities.

    • Angie

Go to a dominican salon the cost will go for less than 100$

  12. Kristi

I’m sorry, but is this a haircut followed by the treatment or just the blowout and conditioning? Never been there. Thanks anyone for the clarification. 😉

    • Lissette

No hair cut. I suppose they could cut your hair before the blowout but they will charge you for that. When you arrive just tell the person you want to take advantage of the event but want to know if you can get a haircut while you’re there.

  13. Caroline

Thank you Thank you Thank you!! Perfect timing for my weekend plans.

  14. vivian

Yay, booked the last avaliable appt time in my local ulta… excited to try this out!

  15. Nicole

I can’t wait to try. I just told my husband this morning that I need to find a new beautician. Can’t beat a free tryout.

  16. Alysia

As a hairstylist, please tip for this service! These stylists work on commission and won’t be paid for doing free services. Most stylists will want to do a great job and give you a good blowout, because they are hoping you return and request them by name. But you always have those few who get mad about having to do free services, and therefore half @$$ your blowout. But the goal of Ulta is to gain long-term clients from these free blowouts, not one-time people looking for a freebie.

    • mamascott

how much do you recommend tipping? I have no clue

  17. Kv

What exactly is a blow out? I’m not familiar with the term. Thanks
