Is Dollar Tree is planning for price increases this year? 💵

If you are a Dollar Tree customer, you may have already started to see some higher price tags at the budget-friendly store. In thousands of Dollar Tree stores across the country, you’ll find $3, $4, and $5 frozen and refrigerated items as well as $3 and $5 merchandise like pet items, snacks and personal care items.

Thanks to the transcript of the recent Dollar Tree Q4 2023 Earning Call provided by The Motley Fool, we now know that know that the chain is focused on a multi-price expansion strategy and plans to offer over 300 items at price points ranging from $1.50 to $7. These items will span a variety of categories like food and snacks, beverages, pet care, personal care, and more.

However, the good news is that Dollar Tree’s CEO Rick Dreiling stated that most of the items sold will remain around $1.25. “But even as our multi-price assortment expands over time, the vast majority of the items sold in Dollar Tree stores will remain at our entry-level fixed price point.

The Dollar Tree isn’t always the cheapest. Walmart was cheaper on the foam board at 99 cents instead of 1.25 and the artificial flowers are cheaper at Walmart also, just fyi

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

I’ve been noticing that on some items too! Thanks for mentioning that! 🙌

What I don’t like is that they are not pricing the upper priced items. You find out at the register. If they keep fooling with their prices they are going to lose their customer base and go out of business. There is a reason people went there – $1 items. It was fair to up it a little but $7 is going too far.

I have liked that they were situated in convenient locations and shopping there has been easy-not a driving, parking, searching and checkout expedition, like at Walmart.

so many things are now cheaper at Aldi and Walmart.too bad, it was such a lot of fun.but they lost me as a customer late last year. i’d rather pay an extra few cents at Aldi then use the gas to go to dollar tree.

According to what the CEO said their targeted demographic has changed. Their “More Choices” strategy has been wildly successful in the over $125,000 income crowd according to the CEO. They have refocused on that crowd. I’m a little doubtful but maybe that’s a good move? I go for the greeting cards and wrapping paper mostly. The rest isn’t that impressive to me from a price standpoint.

Not DT related, but I can’t seem to contact anyone about the issue I am having with the app. When I click on a post and hit the back button it doesn’t send me back to where I was. It sends me to the previous days listings. Is anyone else having this issue?

    • Shelly

Yes me too Not liking this new update @ all I hope they go back to the older version

I only go for the cards. I’m still miffed over them raising to $1.25 while cutting product size.

  9. Loretta Sherman

I bought things at Walmart last week that were cheaper. Disposable tablecloths were $1.00 ar Walmart and $1.25 or $1.50 at Dollar Tree. I don’t like shopping there much anymore. It’s too difficult to know and find the price on items.

  10. Nkiser

Times are changing and cost is going up. It’s made me more careful how I spend my money and what we really need only, rarely wants. I have been to Dollar Tree near us it is very nice and well organized. I like to go to Five Below, Popshelf, and Dollar General these stores are great as well, nice price point. You just have to figure out what works for you. I still like the store and will continue to shop. Thanks for sharing Hip2save!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Yes! GREAT to shop around at all of those locations for the best pricing on the items you need! 🙌💞 You’re so welcome, Nkiser! Thank YOU for sharing your thoughts on this with us!

  11. Bill

Go in there with the mission you will not buy anything over 1.25. Beat them at their game. The $100,000+ crowd will not be their savior.

  12. Doug

They will be out of business within 2 years. I’m done. So are many others that I have spoken with. Not worth the effort..Stores are always a mess and expiration dates have expired or close to it.

  13. Lilly

I’ve cut down on shopping there since prices increased to $1.25. A lot of the sizes have decreased and with sales and coupons buying the name brands gives you a better deal. Also that $1.25 adds up quickly. Will not be shopping there as often when the prices increase, maybe go once or twice a month & set a low $10 budget when shopping there.

  14. Donna

They should NEVER have bought Dollar General. DG stores were always over-priced, filthy, unorganized stores. Dollar Tree ruined themselves with this purchase. Looking at financial statements (which can certainly by altered to make a business appear in the best light without visiting numerous actual store locations is unwise. DG stores in the Chicago area were horrible while Dollar Tree were clean and organized.

  15. D Soto

I use to love going here and it was a good value even though the clerks are over worried and long waiting in line because they are so under staffed. Quite a few items are over-priced even at $1.25 but that made up for the other items that were a great value price. Looks like the want to compete with that $5 dollar store which in my opinion is a big rip off. Too bad. I’ll just shop less frequently, and have cherished memories of the old Dollar Tree.

  16. Michael Cavanagh

I only buy the $1-25 items ! Plus milk works out at almost $10 a gallon crazy ! Same thing with the tiny cartoons of cereal ! Went to a store yesterday it was dead , ! I’m sure Aldi are loving dollar trees price increases ,!!

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Wow, that sure is pricey for a gallon of milk. 😱 Thanks for sharing your thoughts on these price increases and what you’ve noticed in-store, Michael.

  17. Eva

I definitely have decreased the amount of shopping I do at these stores since the price increases. Since it’s garage-sale season I can find a lot of things for less than a dollar. I think it’s ridiculous that the sunglasses are now $1.50. The store was so much better when it was only $1. I think the price increases are a bad move and push their once-loyal customers like me towards Aldi and Walmart
