Pentel makes the only erasers (that I know of) that last for years without hardening (like pink pencil erasers) or getting gummy or greasy (like my mechanical pencils). I keep them at my desk, in the kitchen, at work, etc. I sometimes use them for cleaning electrical switch or battery contacts, too.
Tip: If you pull off the rubber finger grip, you can see that there’s a tab that you can squeeze to keep the eraser from pushing back inside the body while you’re erasing.

These are really good erasers, I highly recommend them. As a student myself, and my children that are really into art, we all use these. They don’t smudge or leave any residue behind, well depending on how hard you write or draw. I buy these and the pencil caps year-round at dollar tree. But this is a good price and they are worth it.
