New Staples Rewards Program – Get $5 for Recycling Electronics & Shredding Documents
Earn rewards for recycling your electronics & printer cartridges at Staples!
To celebrate 15 years of electronics recycling, Staples is launching a free Tech Take Back Program that rewards customers for recycling their old electronics in-store.
Customers will now get $5 back in rewards when they recycle eligible items or shred in-store, plus $2 back in rewards per recycled ink or toner cartridge!
How does the Staples Tech Take Back Program work?
Customers can bring eligible items into their local Staples store and speak to an associate at checkout about recycling them. Note that customers are responsible for removing data from their devices prior to drop-off.
Eligible items include electronics like computers, monitors, cables, adapters, flash drives, and more. See the complete list here!
Staples customers can earn rewards for document shredding, too!
From financial documents to bills and even junk mail, Staples has a partnership with Iron Mountain that ensures the secure shredding of all your sensitive documents. This service costs 99¢/lb., but customers can earn $5 back in rewards when they shred any amount!
To use Staples’ document shredding service, simply bring your papers into the store and deposit them into the locked National Association of Information Destruction (NAID)-certified Iron Mountain container. From there, your documents will be shredded, destroyed, and delivered to a pulping mill to be recycled.
Whether you earn your $5 reward by recycling electronics or shredding documents, it will be issued monthly via the Staples Connect mobile app or on staples.com/rewards. Note that the $5 Reward for in-store recycling and shredding is limited to once per customer per calendar month.
Members also earn $2 back in rewards per recycled ink or toner cartridge.
Customers who have spent at least $50 on ink or toner in the past 180 days at Staples can participate in the store’s cartridge recycling program. Just bring your used cartridges to the register at participating Staples stores or request a shipping label to recycle your cartridges online.
Then, you’ll earn $2 back in rewards for every recycled cartridge (reflected on your next monthly Rewards statement).
Note that there is a limit of 10 cartridges per calendar month for Base Rewards members and 20 per calendar month for Premiere and Elite Rewards members.

was the coupon printed out for you right away? I recycled a speaker, the cashier told me the reward will appear on my account instead (did it yesterday didn’t see it yet)
