Starbucks is ending its grocery rewards program.

Starbucks has announced that it’s ending its grocery receipt verification program on March 31st. For those of you who earned Stars this way, you know that it was a fairly easy method of collecting Stars for your Starbucks Rewards balance.

If you’re unfamiliar with the Starbucks grocery rewards program, it allowed you to earn rewards on qualifying Starbucks products wherever they’re sold, like grocery stores and retailers other than Starbucks cafés.

So if you recently purchased any qualifying grocery items and you still have receipts to scan, you’ll want to get that done sooner rather than later!

After the grocery rewards are phased out, you’ll still be able to buy Starbucks products wherever you get your groceries. They just won’t be eligible to earn Stars.

You can still earn gifts & discounts at cafés as a Starbucks Rewards Member!

Thankfully, you can still earn Stars when you purchase beverages, food, and packaged coffee at participating Starbucks Cafés!

Starbucks Rewards Members now earn 2 stars for every $1 spent using a registered gift card or the Starbucks app. You can then redeem your points at different levels for various items! Not paying with a gift card? You can also earn 1 star for every $1 spent no matter how you pay, simply by scanning the Starbucks app at checkout!

  • Redeem 25 Stars – Add an extra shot, flavor, or soy milk to your drink for free (up to $1 off beverage price)
  • Redeem 50 Stars – Get any size hot brewed coffee, hot tea, or bakery item for free
  • Redeem 150 Stars – Get any handcrafted beverage, parfait, or breakfast item for free
  • Redeem 200 Stars – Get a lunch sandwich, salad, or protein box for free
  • Redeem 400 Stars – Get packaged coffee or a single merchandise item for free (up to $20 value)

To me, it wasn’t real customer friendly anyway. Many items I purchased didn’t qualify. It was difficult to use as well. No great loss for me

I really hate the whole receipt submission method everyone is going to. The codes were easy, and I feel like I have to scan my receipt 20 times just to get every rebate app/reward program/boxtops anymore.

    • Jennifer

I agree completely! Plus if you order items for these programs from an online retailer or do curbside pickup, it is more work than it is worth to even try to submit anything. The codes printed on boxes were way easier to submit!

They gave a date for the program ending in a email I received. It is ending on March 31st, 2022

Hi, Michelle W! Would you be willing to forward this email to us at contact@hip2save.com so we can see all the details? We’d sure appreciate it.😍

      • Michelle W

I will send it to you.

        • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

          Thank you!

I guess I won’t be buying their products anymore. They should have kept it the old way with the codes. Instead they made the choice to use a 3rd. party.

  5. queen62

I didn’t get the email. I’m very disappointed with this news

  6. Browniesmomma

I thought they did away with that a few yrs ago… I have been buying it and not scanning receipts anymore 😢

    • Kristi

Browniesmomma…..Ditto! I was told about 2 years ago as well that they would no longer be honoring the gold stars on packaged coffee at grocery stores. So I stopped trying to submit star codes. Oh well, maybe that started on the west coast first where I live??😢😢

I texted them all the time, when I purchased on sale at Safeway for $4.99/bag! They gave me 150 stars for being a loyal customer! Already hit my account! Here’s test from email: Beginning 3/31/22, the Starbucks Rewards
Receipt Verification Program will go away. You
will no longer be able to earn Stars on Starbucks
packaged coffee in grocery, but you will still be
able to buy Starbucks products wherever you
    get your groceries.

As a special thanks for your loyalty, here’s
150 Stars just for you—that’s enough Stars
    for a free handcrafted beverage!

    • Liz

That should have said “Text” not “Test”

    • Michelle W

I used it all the time as well. With the Safeway sales or the after Christmas clearance sales, it was a great way of saving at home by brewing coffee but also getting stars for a once in awhile treat.

    Thanks for letting me know.

I got the email about the packaged stars ending and then to thank me for using it, they gave me 150 bonus stars! I had to make sure I clicked on the link to get them. Nice – a free drink! Maybe because I just entered a packaged coffee a few weeks back.

  10. Wendy Costello

I am very disappointed that they did away with earning stars thru grocery purchase of Starbucks! I don’t have a Starbucks close to me to be able to get coffee on a daily basis. So therefore purchasing coffee at a grocery store was easier. I was able to use points on occasion to get a special coffee whenever I was near a Starbucks. Not happy about the change!

I hear ya, Wendy. It’s not a great move on their part.
