I wish you didn’t delete the tips that I post here. These are SEVERAL issues with the app that I have discovered over the last 13 months that come up all the time. I tell people to come to this site for not only the codes but the tips (which aren’t here). Yesterday someone I know said they got an error message when trying to order. I asked right away the location he went to; that was not the issue. I then asked what sandwich he ordered; that was not the issue (there are 3 sandwiches where the codes do not work). The issue was that he tried to add double meat, which you can’t do (you can make the sandwich deluxe but not PRO).

    Those tips, again:

    * These codes can be used in the Subway app or online.

    * NOT all franchises / locations participate in these offers. TIP: If a location does not accept the code, try switching the location in the app, because each franchise location is independently owned & Subway locations are EVERYWHERE, sometimes less than a mile apart. Since March, 2022, it has been rare for a location in Minneapolis/St Paul to not accept these codes. If a location does not accept the codes, simply hit the back button in the app until you see at the top of the screen the link to the pickup location (or, if you don’t see the link, go to the home page & click on CONTINUE ORDER); tap on the address link that rejected the code. At the next screen, tap on the arrow button (to the right of “your address”) and select another location nearby. You might have to do this a couple times until you find a nearby location that accepts the codes.

    * Use the codes in the Subway app AS MANY TIMES as you want (EVEN DURING THE SAME VISIT) until the expiration date. You can use one code per order.

    * When you look at the menu in the app, these codes work on all of the β€œclassic” sandwiches. Subway is constantly adding new sandwiches to their SUBWAY SERIES menu. The codes will work on MOST of the SUBWAY SERIES sandwiches (the #1 through the #12 plus OTHERS that are CONTINUALLY being added). For example, the codes have never worked for the #3 (The Monster), the #7 (The MexiCali) & the #12 (Turkey Cali Club). Bottom line is this: if you get this ERROR MESSAGE (β€œSorry, qualifying items are missing to redeem this offer, or a better deal has been applied”), double check for typos and make sure you entered the correct code. If that is not the issue, then that particular SUBWAY SERIES sandwich also does not qualify for discounts. Simply try another sandwich. Note that disqualifying sandwiches VARY BY LOCATION. The codes also DO NOT work on MELTS or WRAPS.

    * If you have orders for you & others, you can do EACH ORDER separately & use a code FOR EACH ORDER. For example, take advantage of the $7.99 footlong meal deal by doing each person’s order separately in the app.

    * Once you complete an order in the app, the restaurant gets it IMMEDIATELY so you can still watch them make the sandwiches (so they don’t drown it in sauce, don’t forget the extra meat, etc). It is rare when an error is NOT made so watch them make your sandwich so they get it right. Example: I often make the sandwich “deluxe” (extra scoop of meat); more times than not they miss this on the order slip & I have to tell them to add the extra meat since I paid for it!

    * IMPORTANT NOTE: On occasion, you might get an ERROR MESSAGE IN THE APP when you submit the order (where the STORE DOES NOT GET THE ORDER & THE ORDER DOES NOT APPEAR IN THE APP YET THE CHARGE LIKEY WILL APPEAR ON YOUR BANK ACCOUNT AS “PENDING”). What I discovered: if the order does not appear in the app in your ORDER HISTORY (found under “Account”), then you won’t be charged (that PENDING bank charge will be reversed in a couple days). So, if this error message happens, don’t worry; just do the order again.

    * For an extra charge, you can make the footlong DELUXE (extra meat); you are not allowed to make it PRO (double meat).

    * For an extra charge, you can make the 6 inch sandwich either DELUXE (extra meat) OR Double Meat

    * When you look at β€œYour Bag” in the Subway app:

β€”Scroll down to see the β€œEnter Promo Code Here” field. Enter one of the Promo Codes and tap on APPLY (note how much your TOTAL DECREASES).
    β€”β€”Click β€œcontinue.” At this page:

    * Set the amount of your tip. NOTE: it might default at 15%! Adjust accordingly.

    * You earn 4% back via the Subway Rewards program (for every $50 you spend, you get a $2 REWARD to use on any future purchase). Here you can apply any of your $2 REWARDS towards your purchase.

Just trying to be helpful because its frustrating when you get an error message and you don’t know why.

Also, I double checked just now in the app & these codes still work for me:

        6INCHMEAL599

I have my tips saved in my Word document now.

When the codes expire on May 21 I can see where you might want to clear the board and refresh. I can just re-paste my tips then if needed.

For example, you still get people saying their location doesn’t take the codes; I have a tip for that issue and when I ask what city they are in, more often than not I find locations that DO accept the codes.

        No worries.

        Amber,

Can you edit the tips and remove the May 21 expiration date? See the 1st and 3rd bullet points. The tips won’t change but the expiration date of the codes does =)

Also, in the 8th bullet point, it should say “For an extra charge, you can make the footlong DELUXE (extra meat); you are not allowed to make it PRO (double meat).”

        Thank you.

            Thanks, Jessica.

Recently at Subway I noticed after the sale one guy taking a close look at the receipt. Either it was a user error or the check out screen defaulted to a $4 tip and he paid it without seeing it. He caught the $4 add on after the fact and accused the employee of adding a $4 tip to his already HIGH total (he was paying full price). The employee said that only the customer can add the tip. Well, that wasn’t the case in the app (it defaulted to 15% & I had to change it).

People really need to pay attention to the tip section in the app (or at check out in the restaurant). It might default to 15%! And most times people don’t ask for their receipt and out the door they go.

            • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Oh wow! Thanks so much for mentioning about the tipping portion through the app. Good to know that it might be defaulted to 15% and would need to be adjusted, as needed. πŸ’•

Amber, another issue from one of your readers has come up and I have the solution; therefore, can you please update bullet point #4 in my tips above with this:

        * When you look at the menu in the app, these codes work on all of the “classic” sandwiches. Subway is constantly adding new sandwiches to their SUBWAY SERIES menu. The codes will work on MOST of the SUBWAY SERIES sandwiches (the #1 through the #12 plus OTHERS that are CONTINUALLY being added). If that is not the issue, then that particular SUBWAY SERIES sandwich also does not qualify for discounts. Simply try another sandwich. Note that disqualifying sandwiches VARY BY LOCATION. The codes also DO NOT work on MELTS or WRAPS.

        • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

You bet! Thanks for your help, Steve! That has been updated. ❀️

You’re very welcome. And thanks for updating the tips.

As Subway keeps adding new SUBWAY SERIES sandwiches, this error message is appearing more often when people try to order them: “Sorry, qualifying items are missing to redeem this offer, or a better deal has been applied.” Scott in Phoenix got this error message when trying to order the #4 Supreme Meats but I didn’t in Minneapolis. It’s kinda crazy; the codes rarely fail in Minneapolis/St Paul. Which sandwiches qualify for the discounts clearly vary by location across the country.

            Happy 4th!

            -Steve

And while we are at it, can you replace the final bullet point with this:

Want to save a couple more bucks?

The footlong chicken bacon ranch is $13.89 each at one St Paul MN location. Keep in mind that you could do one order for one footlong using the FL599 code and then do a 2nd order for the 2nd footlong using the FL599 code again. All you would have to do is put in the first order & then tell them to hold off making the sandwich because you decided you needed a 2nd sandwich. Once they get your 2nd order, then they can make both footlongs at once while you watch.

      The savings, in this example:

$29.97: after tax, with no coupon codes
$12.92: after tax, using the FL599 code twice in 2 separate orders

Another interesting thing about the app and in general: Subway employees now expect a tip. When they added the tip section in the app, it was easy to miss, because you would scroll to the bottom of the screen and want to place the order. Only because the total seemed too high made you scroll back up. Note that they might initially set the default tip at 15%, so people need to be aware and adjust accordingly.

            So, in my example above:

19.37 — for a FL, chips and fountain drink (includes tax)
            2.91 — 15% tip
            ………………………………….
            22.28 — Grand total

$22 for one person at Subway. Incredible, huh?

This is why you hear a lot of people say they can’t afford Subway at their regular prices.

    Christel,

Note that they have changed up the menu (and the numbering of some sandwiches).

In the app, when you go to the menu & click on the Subway Series link and scroll down, you don’t you see the #20, Elite Chicken & Bacon Ranch? Nothing really changed; they just gave it a new number and called it elite =)

Let me know if this solves your problem.

For me this footlong sandwich now costs $14.29. Getting it for $5.99 is much, much better =)

Play around with the menu and see if there is anything close to it under the classic sandwiches

Also, every location can be different, of course. if you picked another location (with a different owner), their menu might be completely different

For the location I selected, there were 18 sandwich options under Subway Series

All of the codes expire on June 25.

Here are 5 additional codes from the most recently printed coupons. As always, use these codes as many times as you want; the only restriction is one code PER ORDER. So, if you and a companion want a meal, put in one order for yourself using a code and then put in the 2nd order using a code.

The 5 codes that also expire on June 25:

    FOOTLONG699 = Get a Footlong for $6.99
FLMEAL = Footlong, Fountain Drink, Chips OR 2 cookies for $8.99
BOGODRINK = Buy a Footlong & a FOUNTAIN Drink, Get 1 Footlong Free
FREEMEAL = Get a 6 inch sandwich, Fountain Drink, Chips OR 2 cookies for $6.49
    SUB399 = Get a 6 inch sandwich for $3.99

I live in Minneapolis/St Paul and all 12 of the codes listed at the top work for me. I use the codes that give the better deal, of course. The last 5 codes listed come from the printed coupons.

May I ask what city you live? Some restaurants in the USA accept no coupons (it depends on what the owner decides); others might accept printed coupons but they tear the coupon up after use at check out. But, as I have mentioned many times, you can use any of the codes over & over until the expiration date (this time it’s June 25)

For me, my favorite footlong is the #20, chicken bacon ranch; it costs $13.99, so 2 of them would cost $27.98 plus tax. Yikes!

If I eat one at the restaurant and then get one to go, I use this code, which costs $11.98 for 2 footlongs (instead of $27.98) plus tax:

599FL – footlong sub for $5.99 (if this doesn’t work, try FOOTLONG699, from the recently printed coupons)

If I want both footlongs at the same time, I would use this code (I spend $12.99 instead of $27.98):

    1299FL – two footlong subs for $12.99

    $15 plus tax of savings!!!

The buy one for $13.99 and get one free would cost me at least $1.00 more, so I don’t use that code, which is this one:

FREEFL – Buy One Get One Free footlong

The Buy one footlong, get one for 50% off has been going on for a long time now (with no expiration date in site). When you do the math, however, this deal only gives you 25% off your 2 footlongs, whereas the other codes give you at least 50% off (they expire on June 25 but soon a new round of codes will become active).

In the app, when you scroll down to “Rewards & Deals” and click on the “Buy one footlong, get 50% off” link, it will tell you if a location is participating or not. With the 12 other codes, you don’t find that out until you try to apply the code (the code either works or you get an error message).

On Tuesday I posted 11 new codes that are likely valid way into August (the exact expiration date will be determined once the printed coupons come out). One of those 11 codes was BOGOFTL (Buy 1 Footlong, Get 1 Free).

I received this email this morning: “Let’s BOGO! Buy one Footlong, get one FREE. No pressure, but you only have β€Œuntil β€ŒMonday, β€ŒJuly β€Œ10,β€Œβ€Œ to get this Buy One Get One deal. Only in the App or online. Use promo code: FLBOGO. Redeemable at participating U.S. restaurants for Subway App/online orders only. Free sub of equal/lesser price. Add-ons addt’l. Plus tax. One code PER ORDER. No addt’l discounts. Excludes Wraps. Limited time.”

NOTE: it looks like you can use this code as many times as you want thru July 10. So, for example, if you need 4 footlongs during a visit, put in one order for 2 footlongs using the code and then put in a 2nd order for 2 more footlongs using the code.

This code and the 11 other codes all give you at least 50% savings.

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Hi! I was forced to update the Subway app and now get the error message “Sorry, qualifying items are missing to redeem this offer, or a better deal has been applied.” when trying to order a footlong meal using #4 Supreme Meats with soda and chips. Any thoughts on what’s going on? (PDX)

    • Trish (Hip Sidekick)

So sorry for the troubles, Scott! πŸ€— Which code were you trying to use on your order?

I figured out Scott’s issue. The codes work; it’s just that some SUBWAY SERIES sandwiches don’t qualify and for this particular location in Phoenix, the #4 Supreme Meats does not qualify. He simply needs to pick another sandwich if he wants to make the codes work (or pay full price).

Please update bullet point #4 in my tips above with this:

        * When you look at the menu in the app, these codes work on all of the “classic” sandwiches. Subway is constantly adding new sandwiches to their SUBWAY SERIES menu. The codes will work on MOST of the SUBWAY SERIES sandwiches (the #1 through the #12 plus OTHERS that are CONTINUALLY being added). For example, the codes have never worked for the #3 (The Monster), the #7 (The MexiCali) & the #12 (Turkey Cali Club). Bottom line is this: if you get the following ERROR MESSAGE, then that particular Subway Series sandwich also does not qualify: “Sorry, qualifying items are missing to redeem this offer, or a better deal has been applied.” Simply try another sandwich. Note that disqualifying sandwiches vary by location.
The codes also DO NOT work on MELTS or WRAPS.

        • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

          Thank you! πŸ™Œβ€οΈ

        • Scott

Hi! Went back to the App on 7/3 and the issue has been fixed. There must have been an error on the server side that did not allow the code. In Portland. OR. #4 Supreme Meats FL Meal order total: $15.59 after code, $7.99. No sales tax. $7.60 savings!
          Thanks!

I just tested a location in MPLS/St Paul that’s open until 2 am CT. The location is 7866 Portland Ave S, Bloomington MN

I selected the following (which I assume was your exact order):

      13.19 #4 Supreme Meats
3.50 to make it a meal (I selected chips & FOUNTAIN DRINK)
      1.26 Sales Tax
      _________________________
      $17.95 Total, Normal Price
(9.36) Discount using the FLMEAL799 code (52% OFF)
      _________________________
      $8.59 NEW TOTAL
      ====================

The FLMEAL899 code worked for me as well.

The error could be caused by:

      * Did you try to add double meat? You can only add 50% more meat
      * Selecting a bottle drink instead of a fountain drink (Just depends on the location; for me, I can select bottle drinks for an extra charge)

I see you are in Phoenix; if you want to give the location you were ordering from, I can see if I can get it to work on my end.

Hope this helps. I have not paid full price at Subway since March 2022 and normally can figure out the issue =)

On a side note, here is what these 4 sandwiches currently cost in MPLS/St Paul.

            ……6″….Footlong
            $7.39…..$11.39….#99 Grand Slam Ham
            $7.49…..$11.99….#15 Titan Turkey
            $8.69…..$13.99….#17 Garlic Roast Beef
            $9.69…..$15.09….#30 The Beast

How they came up with the “up to 1 million free sandwich” number:

            20,000 locations x 50 free sandwiches/location = 1,000,000

        Hi, Amber.

Please note that one of your codes above is incorrect. You currently have it listed as “BOGO50 = Buy 1 Footlong, Get 1 Free.” It should instead be this: “BOGOFTL = Buy 1 Footlong, Get 1 Free.”

The 2nd paragraph above needs to be edited as well with the correct code.

It currently reads as follows (with the wrong code):

Buy 2 Subway Footlong Subs as low as $6.99 each
        Total = $13.98
Use Subway coupon code BOGO50 (buy one, get one free)

Unfortunately the free 6 inch subs on July 11 from 10 am – noon local time are only available at participating locations.

In the app you will see a link to click that says “VIEW PARTICIPATING LOCATIONS.” Also, from Subway’s web site, there is a β€œVIEW PARTICIPATING LOCATIONS” link you can click on (so you know that location is participating before you head there).

It’s interesting that Subway is saying they are giving away 1 million sandwiches. Their math is very fuzzy because they are counting on 20,000 locations giving away the 50 sandwiches. The issue? Many locations’ owners don’t want any part of it.

Here is an example of the prices of the 4 sandwiches that are part of this promotion (this is from a Bloomington MN location). I can see why owners would not want to be giving away a 6 inch that they’d rather sell for $9.69

      ……6″….Footlong

    A few things:

    (1) I mentioned above that I believed the 12 coupon codes listed at the top would expire around approximately Aug 20. Well, I was a week off. Can you edit the list at the top with the 12 coupon codes and note that their Expiration Date is Aug 27?

    (2) Also, the FLDRINK code should be this: = Buy a Footlong & a FOUNTAIN Drink, Get 1 Footlong Free

    (3) And a friendly reminder: Use those 12 codes in the Subway app (or online) AS MANY TIMES as you want (EVEN DURING THE SAME VISIT) until the expiration date (Aug 27). The only restriction is one code per order. So, if you have orders for you & others, you can do EACH ORDER separately & use a code FOR EACH ORDER. For example, take advantage of the $7.99 footlong meal deal by doing each person’s order separately in the app.

    Thank you.

It was added several months ago and it used to default to 15% of the subtotal. And you’re right; why should we tip BEFORE the service? Why I say this: I recommend placing the order & then watching them make the order as you normally would. Yesterday I ordered the #20 chicken bacon ranch and took out the ranch and added LESS BAJA. And what did “the artist” do? She FLOODED it with ranch, not even looking at the order slip. I couldn’t believe it; I asked for LESS BAJA and got TONS OF RANCH. Imagine if I hated ranch, picked up the made order and left, got home and saw that??? In theory, they should thrown that mess away and started over but I said I would would try it. It was ok. And they want a tip for that. Yikes.

    • Julie

Most shop honors do not agree with the pre tipping, unfortunately there is no way to opt your store out of it. IT’s corporate increasing their bottom line again. We are all tired of the extra fees and tipping as much as the customers. The stores and employees do not even keep the tips.

    • Alli (Hip Sidekick)

Hi Jodi H — unfortunately there aren’t any printable coupons online. However if you receive SAVE Inserts in the mail they usually have printed coupons for Subway!

  20. Julie

These codes are going to ONLY work at CORPORATE STORES. Franchisees will not honor it. It’s not that they do not want to, they simply can’t afford to. They are all going broke, most would close shop if they could. The coupons are send out from corporate to screw with the little guy’s bottom line. The store fees keeps going up along with the prices of everything that is becoming impossible to run a shop. Most franchisees would close their shops if they could get out of paying their fees BUT even if you close your shop, you got honor the rest of your contract and pay corporate the reminder of your term. It’s a loose/loose situation for many shops. I’m all for saving a buck here and there but please take that into consideration because we have families to feed also. If you are going to try and use a coupon at a franchise that still will honor it (if you can find one), please don’t take the advice given up top to make several different orders so you can get several discounts. If you must, do it at a corporate store. Most franchise will cancel your online if you do that because again WE CAN NOT AFFORD TO. Also, the pre tipping on the app is annoying. Most shop owners do not agree with it and you can not opt your store out it. It comes from corporate and at least in my area, the store and employees DO NOT collect the online tips. It goes to corporate to β€œhelp maintain the app and improve customer experience”. Please, think of the little guy trying to survive and go mess with corporate stores.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks so much for taking the time to explain which stores these offers will work best at. We sure appreciate the feedback. πŸ’•

      Julie,

You made a lot of misstatements in your post.

First, Subway Corporate does not own ONE SINGLE restaurant. Every store is franchised. Corporate makes their money by taking a percentage of sales from every store.

Second: Franchisees DO honor these codes. And if they are running their store (or stores) properly, they can afford to because they are still making a profit on each order. I have been using these codes since March, 2022 and it’s RARE for a code not to work in the app. Every time someone posts that they can’t get the codes to work, I ask what city they are located and EVERY time I have found locations near them where I got the codes to work. If the codes are causing such a detriment to stores’ bottom line then why do they always work? If you are having problems with the codes not working, let me know your location.

Third: You stated that the stores and the employees DO NOT get the online tips and that the tips go to corporate. That is not true, either. If this is what store management has said, then they are lying and are stealing the employees’ tips. Online tips SHOULD BE totaled at the STORE LEVEL and SHOULD BE distributed by the store’s payroll person, where employees get their share of the tips based on the shifts they worked. If this is not happening, then the store owners is pocketing that online tip money and a complaint should be filed with the state’s Dept of Labor.

Wage theft is a serious crime. In Minnesota, the crime of β€œwage theft” occurs when an employer fails to pay an employee all wages, salary, GRATUITIES, earnings or commissions at the employee’s rate or rates of pay or at the rate or rates required by law, whichever is greater.”

Fourth: You then say to “go mess with corporate stores.” Again, there are no corporate stores.

The offers I get in my Subway app & the emails they send me (constantly, lol) are never pure “BOGO” offers – they always manage to throw some other type of “requirement” in (in order to get the “free” sub). Current offer, for example, is “Free Footlong when you buy a Footlong AND a Bottle Drink.” Checking their emails from the last month are just more of the same: BOGO50, B2G1, $5.99 Footlong, etc. Couldn’t find a single actual Buy One, Get One Free offer.
