It’s been a rough month in the world of retail news, with David’s Bridal filing for bankruptcy and the impending demise of Bed Bath & Beyond and Buy Buy Baby stores.

Now, we’re anxiously watching Staples, as they’ve been quietly closing stores for a while now. Reports indicate that this trend is expected to accelerate this year, and now we’re starting to see it happen all around us.

Hip team member Sara was recently surprised to learn that her local Staples is closing its doors, with a liquidation sale already underway.

I just went to buy printer paper and my Staples location is closing! It appears they’re also closing a bunch of other locations too.

Industry insiders report that Staples is doing well financially. It’s still the nation’s leading office supply store. So why are they closing so many locations?

With increased competition from online retailers, one theory is that Staples may be gradually moving away from its brick-and-mortar stores and scaling up its e-Commerce business. Although this shift is expected to continue, Staples is likely planning to very strategically close only some of its physical U.S. locations at this time.

Since there’s no publicly available list of store closures, you may want to check in on your local Staples this week to see if they’re liquidating, or if it’s business as usual. At Sara’s store, items were priced at up to 50% off!

Is your Staples closing too? The company hasn’t publicly said too much about its growing list of store closures, so we’d love to hear what’s happening at your local store!

I hope not. Staples is in the same shopping mall that Bed Bath & Beyond is in our town. We go to Staples all the time.

I never go here or shop them online.

The Staples close to my home is not closing! They even have a banner flag that they are hiring right now. At the top it says Staples connect. Do you know why it says Staples connect? Are they changing their name? maybe they meant – connect with Staples because we’re hiring?

Staples connect is the (new?) app that houses your Staples rewards/ coupons/ receipts.
You’d go to staplesconnect.com to download the app.
