Blackheads be gone!

Breakouts, blackheads, and excessively oily skin are common problems that most of us have dealt with at one time or another. If you’ve been searching high and low for a clear skin remedy, look no further than the “WORLD’S MOST POWERFUL FACIAL” a.k.a. Aztec Secret’s Indian Healing Clay mask.

I’ve been using this game-changing mask since I was a teenager and nothing competes with its amazing results. If you haven’t tried it yet, here’s a rundown of what I experienced, along with some additional real user feedback.

What’s in the Indian Healing Clay?!

I was curious about what made this mask so effective so I did a little research on the one and only ingredient – Calcium Bentonite Clay. It’s 100% natural and full of magnesium, calcium, and iron which aid in the release of toxins and excess oil.

Believe it or not, healing clay has been used for centuries as a skincare treatment. As part of her beauty regimen, Cleopatra even covered herself in clay straight from the Nile river! I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t mind having goddess skin like hers.

Go get your ingredients!

Ready to mask up and look like the grinch for 20 minutes? First, you’ll need to purchase your Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay.

I got mine at Whole Foods, but it’s also available in-store or online from retailers including Amazon, Walmart, and Target.

Your best deal is on Amazon right now where you can snag two 1-lb containers for just $12.75 (regularly $17.99)!

Bubbling Indian Healing Clay mixed with Apple Cider Vinegar in bowl

You can mix the Indian Healing Clay with water or apple cider vinegar, but you’ll likely have better results using the vinegar.

When mixed with the clay, you’ll notice a little bit of bubbling at first (pictured above) and this is totally normal. Once your face is covered in Indian Healing Clay, all you have to do is sit tight for 20 minutes and let the green gunk transform your skin

What does the mask feel like?

Just head to Amazon and check out the 20,000+ reviews on Aztec Secret’s Indian Healing Clay. Even Mindy Kaling has raved about the magical mask.

“Sometimes I put glop on my face for beauty reasons. This one was cheapo and fun to mix and really worked. I don’t get paid by them or anything! Just have mega oily skin….” (Read the rest here)

After the mask has been on for about 10 minutes, you’ll likely experience a tightening and slightly itchy sensation. You’ll also look a little red in the face after rinsing, but this is totally normal and usually goes away within 15 minutes.

“This mask sucks out EVERYTHING in your pores”

My fellow Hip2Savers have also tried the Indian Healing Clay mask—here’s what they have to say:

“I just used this Indian Healing Clay on its own for the first time. I’ve had a few different friends swear by it forever so I figured I’d give it shot. After the first time using it…I’m literally in love and think I’ll do it every week from now on! I applied my mask pretty thick and after about 20 minutes I pretty much felt like a scaly reptile but after washing it off, my face felt amazing! Nice and tight and good blood flow to my face…I did experience a little redness which is expected, but I can only imagine all the good it will do for my skin with regular use. I can’t wait to see my results in the months to come!”

“This mask sucks out EVERYTHING in your pores — and you know it’s working from the tingly and constricting sensation! I recommend always using ACV to mix in with the mask over water, as water can make it a little too clumpy. I usually follow it up with a very hydrating lotion or a hydration mask since my skin tends to feel a little dry afterward. You get so much out of one tub and it’s so inexpensive. I could never be without this mask in my skincare routine!”

Ha! Just bought at Whole Foods on Sunday for $4.72! I didn’t notice any “gunk” coming out of my pores but I’ve only used once. My skin was super soft afterward, though.

    • Erin

So for those of you who use this, what’s the best, easiest method of disposal? The clay can clog drains, so I didn’t want to rinse it off. I picked the big dried clumps off and removed the remainder with a lot of cotton balls, which was kind of a pain.

      • Laure

I came on to say the same thing. Do not rinse this down the drain.

        • sue

          Does it clog?

      • tracy

I’ve used the clay off and on for years, I usually mix up what I need in a disposable cup with a plastic spoon and just toss the whole thing in the trash when I’m done

        • Erin

That’s what I did, too. How are you washing it off your face? My bathroom is upstairs and I can’t see sloshing a basin of muddy water through the house. 🤣

      • Jessica

Yes, it will definitely clog drains!! How I take it off is by getting whatever big chunks off that I can over a small trash can (usually they kind of just fall off once dry) and then I gently rub whatever else I can off. Then I use a big bowl (such as one you would put a bag of popcorn in or something for size comparison) and I fill it partially with water and just rinse my face over the bowl of water until it’s gone and then I dump the bowl outside.

In the summer I’ve even just rinsed it off outside with the hose quick when I’m going out to water the plants anyway! Definitely the fastest and most convenient way, but that is a seasonal dependent option!!

Due to the hassle I haven’t been using it as much this winter, but this was a great reminder post that I should start using it regularly again!

      • 50ShadesofLipstick

I remove it by using a warm wet washcloth. And I toss the remainder of the mask itself into the trash, after scooping it out. Simple 🙂

I have heard great things about this mask. Got some at Marshals for about $5 the big ones are $9. A word of caution, I have contact dermatitis and I got the redness and hives from using it. Make sure to test a small area before applying to your whole face. My face was softer after the hives went away.

    • Jamie

      The redness is normal.

      • Natasha C

Yes, but hives aren’t. It was just a word of caution to test a small patch if you haven’t used it before and may have sensitivities.

  3. Cherryluva

I picked mine up from Marshall’s, for lower price than target and amazon. I have not tried it yet due to finishing up my other mask from Amazon, but thanks for making me so excited to try! It’s the little things in life!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

You’re welcome! Hope you love it too!

  4. Pat R

This is also great for your dry feet. Let dry and rise off.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh interesting! Thanks for the tip!

    • J.H.509

Got some to try on my feet…and face. Can’t go get pedicures. Gotta get an alternative. Thanks hip2save

  5. MrsOspina

My husband got this for me for one of my Valentine’s Day Gifts, it really is amazing! Used it this morning!

  6. pxl091000

Sephora has free shipping. No minimum.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

      Thanks for letting us know!

  7. Alecia_D

I wonder if this would help with my rosacea. Stress makes it worse, and well… I’ve been a little stressed out lately. 🙁
Might have to give this a try!

    • Lori

I was wondering the same thing about rosacea. Better test on a small area first.

    • Rachel F.

One of my friends found an all natural product that helps! Feel free to email me and I can send you the info. rachel.fickenscher@gmail.com

  8. cbakerd3

I know I’m the minority here but I really did not like this product. It did nothing for my skin and was a pain to prepare and use. Hope it works better for others!

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

Thank you so much for your honest feedback!

  9. dblD Amber

Even with the mask, you still look gorgeous Sara. I’ve had this recipe for over a year and it’s amazing.

  10. Kim

Bentonite clay + apple cider vinegar makes my skin SUPER red. Scary red. Feverish red. But the redness and heat fades after an hour or two and my skin does seem to stay clear for longer than usual after I use it. Just have to do it before bed and NOT before going anywhere!

    • autumn785

      Not everyone

      • Kim

Yeah. That’s why I said MY skin.

  11. April

I use the on my face twice a year but more often in my hair.

  12. Sallys

I never thought of not washing it down the drain, but I do not want to contribute to the drains clogging.
that is a good tip to rinse into a bin and dump outside…

  13. melissaanne

This hates my face. It made me break out soooo bad. And yes, I’m aware of purging. This was not it. I used it numerous times and it did nothing but make my face worse. Super bummed. But nothing helps me. I have thousands worth of skin care. I should’ve known this wasn’t going to do anything. 🤣

  14. Melinda

I was just looking at this on Amazon, seriously 5 minutes ago. I didn’t purchase, I went with another one. Now I’m regretting it. This will be my next mask to try. Thanks!

  15. dee

One of my FAVE products that works!!!! To take off the mask: I fill up a huge bowl with warm water and take off the mask by scooping water up from the bowl and splashing my face over and over, i also use a wash cloth dunked in the warm water to scrub it off. Then I throw the entire bowl of water outside in my yard. That stuff is terrible for pipes.

  16. Ang

The amazon link isn’t working anymore

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks, Ang! That link has been updated.

  17. Mary Lou Barra

I used wet paper towels to remove the clay. Worked fine.

  18. Jill

They have this at Marshall’s and TJMAXX

    • Stacy F (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Thanks for the heads up, Jill!

  19. Zara

You should NOT mix this with vinegar only. Always dilute water and little vinegar +clay. My skin is not sensitive, and mixing this clay with apple cider vinegar only gave me a horrible burns on my face. Took a while till my skin completely healed. I still occasionally use this mask, but I mostly dilute it with water and only a bit of apple cider vinegar.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh bummer! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience with us, Zara. The directions listed on the product note to mix with apple cider vinegar and / or water. Sorry to hear the vinegar mix alone burned your skin. SO glad it has healed up! My daughter usually only uses it with water.
